So how can we show our disgust ...

...at this government (adjectives deleted to enable post to survive) and its policies. Whether its the appalling language and terms of this new Immigration bill, the current attempts to limit free speech, voting restrictions particularly for young people, polluted rivers and seas (affecting wildlife, tourism and well being), the cost of living crisis, unaffordable energy bills, threats of higher mortgage costs, significant decrease in rape prosecutions, repeated examples of government waste (PPE being the prime example) and so on.... there is so much we need to be opposing. Yes I know we can all vote in the local and one day general elections, yet making a protest that might actually resonate with the government seems impossible. So well done to Linekar with his 6m followers! Any ideas from posters on what we as individuals could do, that could create a ripple?

Unfortunately, all politicians have their noses in the trough, regardless of which party they represent.

Unfortunately, you are probably right.

Please remember the murdered MP David Amess. Nothing could be further from the truth, and there are many like him. A very unpleasant phrase which ignorant people love to quote.

Am with millydog and @gillycats. Was beginning to think Gransnet was full of leftie snowflakes without any common sense at all. Six million pounds a day paying for the illegal immigrants to stay in hotels. Don't moan when you can't get a Dr's appointment, social housing or anything else. The money from people who are actually paying tax can only go so far. I think labour are likely to get in next time. Be interesting to see what happens then. Be prepared.

Thank you Keffie12 and others. We leftie snowflakes with no common sense need to keep talking about reality, both about Starmer the decent, ethical politician and the reality of how 12 years of Tory misrule have decimated our nhs.
Lesley18 - the conservatives have had 12 years in power. How can they not be held responsible for our chaotic approach to managing asylum seekers

Irish Dancing yes they have. We are one of the most tolerant and diverse countries in the world.
MayBee70 the language is nothing like the German government used in Nazi Germany or German politics in the 1930’s. And it’s abhorrent to even suggest it is.
Our right to strike has been diminishing since the awful strikes of the 1970’s when this country was brought to its knees. And that’s under Labour and Tories. I fully support those who earn minimum wage or less and anyone who does not receive the legal requirements from a health and safety point of view. But bringing the country to its knees once more when there is a global economic and environmental crisis by people on decent wages and conditions is just wrong. Let’s help the genuinely poor and needy first then let’s look at helping those earning a decent income. And for me that includes helping genuine refugees with particular emphasis on women and children from war torn countries. Not young men from places where they’re actually safe eg Albania. Unlike the Jews who were anything but safe in pre WW2 Germany….

Well said Milliedog by the way! Spot on!

Well said Maisie…. We do protest , and when we do all sorts of people ( I include no doubt some posters on gransnet!) complain and moan about not getting to appointments because the traffic is stopped in London …or “ why are these people holding the country to ransom” … the ‘protestors’ also known as ‘hooligans ‘ get no support from the likes of armchair moaners. Are any of you cheering because nurses and junior doctors are striking for a pay deal that’s better than a ‘Costa Coffee’ worker.!?!

The thing is, we don't have enough variety of parties. One party will always be either Labour or Conservative and the remainder or just non-entities. Basically, none of the parties actually want to work for the electorate. They are just interested in lining their own pockets. It really doesn't matter which party get the most votes in an Election, the Puppet-masters will always install who they want. Try reading The Falsification of history; Our Disorted Reality by John Hamer and you will see wht I mean.

I have just looked at the cintents of the book you recommend Effalump and as I can see it is the book on the conspiracies of conspiracies. I only wish life was that simple.

Join an opposition party, fundraise for them, post leaflets in the rain, boring stuff like that I am afraid.

Sadly the Opposition Party are no better. They care little for ordinary people, and nothing for the vulnerable.

I'm as active a Labour Party member as I can be. Yes we do all he suff suggested above: our branch goes out canvassing 3 times a week to knock on doors to ask what do people want.

I'm taking part in a a national group that is forming policy on MH provision for the next election. People in my branch are active in local food banks and CAB etc. I'm a Quaker as well and we are heavily involved in the local refugee support facilities. I am vulnerable, coming out of an abusive marriage and a Safeguarded Adult. Local Labour MP has huge surgery facilities with volunteer helpers.

Yet you say what you do.

I think you are just being provocative really, because we all know people of differing views including equally caring Conservative Party member who may choose slightly different helping roles who also care for the vulnerable where they live.

Shame on you.

I had no idea that Lineker was fluent in 1930's German! Or is he simply relying on someone else's translations to form the basis of his crackpot twitterings, I wonder......

There is plenty of historical evidence about the state of Germany in the 1920s. Hitler became involved with politics when he joined the German Workers' Party in 1919, This renamed in 1920 to include the words National Socialist. By 1922 Hitler had gained control of the Nazi Party and in 1923attempted a coup in Bavaria. He was imprisoned but let out after a few months. During that time he wrote Mein Kampf.

Throughout the 20s the Nazi Party campaigned for antisemitism, anticommunism and ultranationalisation. They also attacked the ruling government.

So, Lineker doesn't need to be fluent in German because there are plenty of history books at all levels which provide details of the events during the 20s and 30s.

The Tory govt doesn't want to spend the money needed to process the asylum seekers quickly which is why, with the camps being full, they have had to use hotels to house them. Apparently there is at least one cruise shop up in Scotland which is either being used or about to be used to house more.

Interestingly Sunak's budget had some of Labour's plans which were part of the manifesto at the last GE. EG child care.

Thanks Dinahmo and Wyllow3. I was away last week. I feel I’ve landed in a parallel universe where so many posters are spouting nonsense
