BBC News - Sturgeon's husband arrested in SNP finance probe

I am sorry to read this as I had faith in the SNP. I hope that a police investigation into this matter will bring out the truth of the matter.

When I was younger, everybody knew that you didn't talk about cases that were "under" the police. Even wee bairns knew that if you talked about it and either gave something away, or accused somebody of something, or whatever, then that wasn't allowed. Whether it was about the laddie who stole sweeties from RS McColl or about the Prime Minister, you didn't talk about it, much less put it in writing.
Private Eye have a shed-load of lawyers at their back and I'm quite sure they phrase things to make sure they stay on the side of the law. I don't expect many Grans have phalanxes of lawyers behind them. (Except maybe GSM
)
I don't remember you being so reticent in discussing the police investigation into Boris Johnson and partygate volver. Although to be fair, he wasn't actually arrested was he?
Do you not Hersmother?
You were surely not paying attention.
Have another look and try to find something incriminating. Also, that event was not a criminal investigation with the potential to involve a trial, but was a breaking of the "Rules".
Ah yes, a breaking of covid rules. Quite minor now looking back.
Also, that event was not a criminal investigation with the potential to involve a trial, but was a breaking of the "Rules".
It was the crime of the century for some on here and nothing less than life imprisonment, even death, should have been the punishment.
It is comical reading through such tribal behaviour and lack of self awareness.
I'm just back from shopping. I wish I'd photographed the news stand. Every newspaper headline about Murrell was splashed over the front pages along with screeds of text. Journalists are having a field day. Obviously didn't have the benefit of Volver's early youth!
They probably say things like "Sturgeon's husband arrested in connection with police investigation."
Which is factually true.
Posters on here strayed into saying who they thought was guilty of a crime that we don't even know ever happened and what people would think of it in the future.
Which is dangerous speculation.
Here's a few from the BBC website
I wonder what the future holds for the SNP?
They’ve lost an awful lot of support in recent years so it really does look like an uphill struggle.
Police face questions – nothing about the person who was arrested and no accusations.
You’re nicked – factually correct, if a little vulgar.
Daily Mail, which I decline to copy – it’s a question, therefore they can say that the answer's “no”.
I’m going to stop with this now, it's too close to what we’re told not to do.
Trial by the media is so common now. I don’t know what has gone on and am not a fan of Nicola, but she was bound to resign with such a public interest in her husband. She obviously loves him and he comes first as mine would with me. We don’t know what he’s said to her and what she made of it. Hope for her sake he is not guilty. The saying hate the sin but love the sinner holds true. When you have a close relationship you have the choice, do I stay or go. Not a good place to be if you kept to the rules. The awful press attention is more than most if us could cope with. Look how Cliff Richards was treated!

Really?
Now I know that some people get very annoyed if anyone asks for proof but can you help me understand how the SNP "have lost an awful lot of support in recent years?"
Just the 50% (ish) of the Scottish Parliament and 45 out of 59 Scottish Seats in Westminster "in recent years".
Just saying something doesn't make it true Kandinsky.
Er sorry but what about the drop of 30,000 members of SNP?
Aye, that's true. I've never been a member. Voted consistently SNP for more than 10 years.
What's your point?

😂
It’s the bit about wee bairns knowing not to talk that made me laugh.
I think the SNP are on a downward spiral now, and that not only will lots of people feel disillusioned with them but that Labour will become a more popular party in Scotland.😃
I do think things will decline for SNP support, at least temporarily, and some people will feel disillusioned.
Labour could become more popular again. But they have to acknowledge that the Indy genie is out of the bottle.
But please, whilst you are making forecasts about other countries' politics, just remember this.
The SNP are a pro-independence party. The Labour Party is a Unionist party, run from "down south" with a branch manager in charge up here. That's important.
Also, remember that there are other pro-Indy parties.😲
Just saying something doesn't make it true
I’m not the one saying it - the endless press reports are
Oh Volver you are funny.
I can almost see your frustration flying out of my screen.

There’s no point getting annoyed with me, ( or ‘the English’) it’s the people of Scotland who voted against independence.
Be angry with your people.
Well, that's taken a turn... 🤣
But it’s true.
The English didn’t vote to keep you ‘tied to us’ or whatever phrase you like to use, the people of Scotland voted for it.
For what it’s worth, if I’d been given a vote in the future of Scotland ( being English & living in England ) I’d have voted for your independence & happily waved you off.

Certainly volver, happy to help. This is from the Herald Scotland:
On 12 February, the Sunday Mail’s John Ferguson reported up to 30,000 SNP members had quit over controversial gender reforms and a lack of progress on independence.
At the time, the most up-to-date figure for SNP members was 103,883, the number at 31st December 2021 given in the party’s annual accounts.
A party spokesperson said at the time: “The 30,000 figure that was reported is not just flat wrong, it’s wrong by about 30,000. As the SNP clearly stated when asked, fewer than 300 members have left the party over the period and they have been replaced by the same number of new members. “This story is both malicious and wholly inaccurate. Fortunately, few people are gullible enough to believe it.”
SNP media chief Murray Foote, a former Daily Record editor, also rubbished the story on Twitter, calling it “drivel” and repeating the official denial. However, under pressure to be more transparent about who will vote in its leadership contest, the SNP yesterday revealed its membership was 72,186, or just over 30,000 down on the figure reported in the SNP’s accounts.
It would seem that their was considerably more than "disillusionment" regarding several issues within the SNP, long before the current investigation began 2 years ago.
