A Home Secretary unfit for Purpose

On 1st April Suella Braverman wrote in the Daily Mail about grooming gangs and child abuse and said the perpetrators are groups of men, almost all British-Pakistani, who hold cultural attitudes completely incompatible with British values

The story of 21 people convicted in West Midlands was released on Wednesday 5th April. The perpetrators are all white and are both male and female.
Isn't it time we had a Home Secretary who knew what she was talking about? And one who didn't write inaccurate and racially harmful press releases?

It is racist to victimize one group and not others.

I stand by my view of what you and growstuff have been saying. It’s a serious subject not a game with other posters.
You are bound to think that’s not acceptable.
There is no blatant racism or demonising going on, or any sidelining either.

Really? wink

*Posters here are demonising Asian men and being blatantly racist*

comments like this are just goady.

It’s not racist to post facts.
Large numbers of Asian men have been involved in child abuse grooming gangs in recent years.

It does become 'racist' if the facts are selected to only mention one group of abusers and not mention the other facts, about the other and majority group.

If me being heartbroken causes you to be offensive you mut be a very strange and bitter person.

If that kind of thinking suits you, you're welcome to it.

PS. I thought name-calling wasn't allowed!

Oh here come the ‘wink’ emojis.

I just hope HQ are watching this thread.

Is this where we are?

You said posters and you've only give an example of one.

What's that sound? Oh yeah, the barrel being scraped.

Kandinsky Fri 07-Apr-23 20:32:58

Er no, that sound is me closing the door & leaving you to it.
Your need to argue all day on GN is far greater than mine. ( thankfully )

Why? Don't you think they have anything better to do?

I thought the original post was about the present Home Secretary's inaccurate and divisive language.
There have been other examples of this , "invasion". is one which apparently is quite different from the line she took when advocating for asylum seekers as a barrister.
Surely the Home Secretary is playing to the gods and it is a deliberate strategy to hopefully win more votes.?The question is should someone in the position of the Home Secretary play this game.I'm sure the ERG approve.

Here if a criminal offence or assault occurs and it is a white man involved they always describe them as Caucasian or white. If it is someone from Africa or a First Nations person they never, ever, describe their appearance. Which is also racism because everyone they are seeking suspected of a crime should be treated equally. The unfortunate result is when there is no description the wrong assumption is often made. Commonsense.

volver3 Sat 08-Apr-23 09:03:34

I thought that sounded a little unlikely so I googled...

NSW most-wanted people, only 2 described as Caucasian and the others as Indian/sub continental, Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance.

Well I would imagine it is very difficult to ascribe the racial origins you describe unless you have a declaration or full DNA. A black person might be African, but might also be Caribbean or even American. As for First Nation that must be equally difficult to identify
