That Douglas Ross does my head in and the conservatives they’ll never get back in not in a million years

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 08:02:59

Volver 3 no inaccuracy in saying that there’s a huge difference of opinion in what constitutes an independent nation. For some people, being part of the EU would not imply nationhood and independence. For others, clearly there’s no conflict of interest.
Perfectly accurate.

So are you going to alert Germany to the fact that they are neither a nation, nor independent? France will be interested to know they aren't either.

Honestly, what poppycock.

Aveline Sun 30-Apr-23 08:23:23

Germany and France have to adhere to laws set by EU. Doesn't seem very independent to me.

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 08:26:17

Volver 3 don’t think France or Germany is that interested in being told anything at all by the Uk.
Obviously there are discussions on this topic in more depth than poppycock as the dismissal.
Interesting to see that the National Cons Conference is talking about nationhood and the importance of the nation.

You can’t argue with someone who knows everything about everything can you ? I made a mistake, it was James VI of Scotland and not the V. Until then they were separate from the rest of the landmass know as England and Wales. Very good at fighting amongst themselves and defending their tribes. And yes, I used to be a history teacher way back when.

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 08:34:32

nanna8 Scotland has not lost the knack for fighting…. We can but try to broaden the outlook but it’s uphill with some.

Well you can argue with somebody who knows everything, but you have to know something.

The Union of the Crowns was in 1606, 100 years before the Union of Parliaments, which is what we are talking about.

Glad you never taught me history.

Oreo Sun 30-Apr-23 09:31:38

You’re right nanna8 maybe alter that to ‘you can’t argue with somebody who thinks they know everything about everything’ 😂

More problems with ferries! Run aground after time in the dry dock, all passengers ok thankfully.

volver3 Sun 30-Apr-23 09:38:11

See yon Nicola, she even makes ferries run aground in the Pentland Firth!

I think she started the conflict in Sudan too.

Mind you I don't know much about Sudan, which is why I haven't commented on it.

A good rule of thumb, I reckon, that many could learn from....

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 09:43:14

Well maybe get a move on with the two ferries that are taking ages to complete?

Have you heard of the word irony?😂

If the ferries that are currently being built end up in the Pentland Firth, something has gone really wrong.

Oreo Sun 30-Apr-23 09:47:42

Sturgeon is toast but can still be blamed for many things to do with the SNP wink

Says the poster who tried to tell us all what the purpose of the SNP is.

🤣

Has anyone heard of the Darien Scheme, as an aside? An unsuccessful attempt by the Scots to establish New Caledonia - a Scottish colony in the Gulf of Darien.

Huge financial losses by the Company of Scotland left the Scottish Lowlands in financial ruin. This was an important factor in weakening resistance to the Act of Union 1707.
The Guna people had the territory of Guna Yala as their home so one could say, lucky escape for them.
Googled this . Am just curious if this happened or is it a bad joke?

volver3 Sun 30-Apr-23 09:53:13

Oh good. More patronising.

Of course it happened.

Google away and try to find out why.

(Clue - unfair trading policies and blockades by England)

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 09:56:27

Yes patronising is my specialty! Not!
Still think that was really bonkers idea. A load of Scots invading the land belonging to the Gunas! Did anyone ask them?

volver3 Sun 30-Apr-23 09:59:48

Yes it was a bonkers idea. They took a piano and Harris tweed clothing with them, if I remember correctly.

If only the ships carrying supplies to them had been allowed through and not blockaded by...who was it again...?

As for the Guna....I mean, its not like the English state ever invaded anybody else's country to build their Empire, is it?

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 10:01:50

Why justify the attempt by Scotland to be a colonial power?

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 10:02:53

In other words why take it out on the Gunas?

volver3 Sun 30-Apr-23 10:03:21

Keep trying ronib, keep trying... 🤣

"God loves a trier", they say. 😉

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 10:03:43

No bagpipes on board?

volver3 Sun 30-Apr-23 10:04:35

Oh patronising and poking fun at stereotypes now.

What japes.

ronib Sun 30-Apr-23 10:06:36

Far too sensitive Volver 3. Bagpipes are better than a piano!
