I did have genuine reasons as I noted to leave the thread on both days, and shortly I will need to do so again as my sons are coming for lunch. Many of us come to Gransnet to relax, chat, discuss, and then get on with real life. So we have to leave threads. It’s usually that simple for me. I can’t comment on what others do.

Visitors, going out, life, it all gets in the way of GN!

Or hobbies, probably.

This mostly applies to me too. I’m probably a bit more right wing than you Galaxy but I’m not rabid about anything. I think I’m slightly right of centre, having a foot in the left wing on some topics and more in the right wing on other topics.

The nastiness of recent deleted posts on this thread and elsewhere leads one to think they may not be emanating from the peaceable majority you decry as
the rabid right wing, defenders of monarchy, decriers of the scrounging unemployed and asylum seekers, preservers of white privilege,(who) dominate some threads

And as we know, posts get deleted when reported. NOT because they're any worse than others. I doubt Volver bothers reporting. But by all means, report and censor those you disagree with.

The mechanism for problems on GN is reporting whether you like it or not, I feel conflicted about it but I dont expect GN or MN to stand alone in having completely free speech, that would be ridiculous. Reporting is the mechanismused on this site and people are free to use it as they like.

They are also free to write words without spacing

Does it not bother anyone that some people feel hounded and ganged up on on threads even though they just want to express their own point of view?

That if everyone worked to keep their responses constructive, avoided insult, and just kept their arguments passionate rather than personal... We'd have a lively forum where everyone felt welcome?

Driving different opinions off threads the way it always goes here does not give a small handful of posters any element of "rightness".

I won't engage in it because I know it only damages my own arguments in the minds of those who just read and think "woah, no way I'm joining that thread" or those who leave them after dipping a toe. Really sad for a discussion forum
