Voting. I’m so glad we still have the ‘old fashioned’ system…
Professor Kathleen Stock’s talk this evening at the Oxford Union was disrupted by hundreds of trans rights activists. She told the BBC is isn’t hate speech to say males can’t be women.
The talk seems to have been welcomed, with half the audience giving a standing ovation though chanting from trans activists outside could be heard.
Gosh.

Thank you for sharing that poem Namsnanny, yes it is very powerful.
I think perhaps, Oxfam, which relies on the goodwill and donations of the general public, should get back to basics - assisting starving and deprived people across the world.
I can see donations drying up.🙄
Julie Bindel writes:
"I'm no stranger to the bile spewed at feminists like me by trans-activists online, but the Oxfam video I watched yesterday left me deeply disturbed.
It is a vile, misogynistic attack against JK Rowling, simply because she has so bravely championed the rights of biological women.
And it speaks volumes about Oxfam, a charity which still trumpets its primary purpose as a desire to 'help end poverty' but which today is captured to such an extent by extreme political ideology and trans-lunacy that it is no longer fit for purpose.
It's a deeply sad demise for the charity, founded in 1942 with the noblest of aims to send food supplies to starving mothers and children in Nazi-occupied Greece.
From these simple beginnings it expanded to provide international aid around the world, helping to combat poverty and hunger, as its fuller name, the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, makes clear.
For decades, all manner of people have been pouring their hard-earned cash into this worthy project, in the belief that they were helping those in real need.
But priorities at the charity have changed. Should you click on Oxfam's website today, the first thing you will see – against a backdrop of rainbow flags and banners – is the slogan 'diversity makes us'.
What on Earth, you may think, has this got to do with those starving in Somalia, currently in the grip of a catastrophic famine; or Ethiopia, where millions are tormented by drought and conflict?
Or for that matter Afghanistan, where an entire population has been pushed into poverty?
Nothing, of course. Instead, it is a cloak of worthiness which conceals some ugly truths."

There was a backlash against Oxfam a while ago when they banned a game that celebrated women. I can’t remember the detail now, but the gist was that the featured women were actual women and there were no transwomen, and worse, it featured JKR amongst the female role models.
I do remember that Doodledog was it something to do with successful/inspirational women?
Why on earth has Oxfam allowed itself to become embroiled in this? It makes no sense
and what's the point of stating 'diversity makes us', when the only opinions and the people giving them that are allowed, are the ones that you agree with?
Yes, it was bing (I've googled) and was withdrawn because 'trans colleagues' felt that they weren't included, and that the inclusion of JKR meant that the game 'was not in line with Oxfam's values'.
Sorry - it was Inspirational Women Bingo.
Which of course begs the question, why would trans be included in a game about successful/inspirational women but we know the answer don't we
.
Well, I'm not donating money to support this lunacy, and I don't think (by other SM), I'm alone in this.
There are plenty of other charities, but it's a shame.🙁
It is a shame, but given the scandal about child abuse a while back, they really should be trying to get people onside, rather than driving us away.
No you're not alone DL. We stopped giving to Oxfam when we learned about the child abuse scandal and TBH did feel guilty but as you say, there are other charities for us to support but how many are going to miss out because of a reduction in donations to Oxfam.
It's vile isn't it Doodledog and Oxfam seems to have lost its way and forgotten its purpose.
Andy Ngo (outspoken under cover journalist in hiding) is portrayed to the right of JKR. I'm not sure who the other person is.
Our institutions have been captured.

Quite!
I'm just stunned that OXFAM would so immerse itself into this 'war' instead of putting it's house in order after the appalling abuse and focusing on the purpose of its existence.
They banned "Wonder Woman Bingo" from sale in their stores - are they now looking around to see what else they can censor I wonder? Harry Potter's books and merchandise?
It's just madness. Biological women exist - we are, along with biological men, a protected group. But we're not allowed to question those who insist that we don't?
OXFAM will have to employ some extra staff - to examine all the books that pass through their outlets... there are hundreds of authors who write fiction based on the assumption of two sexes, including those from the 19th and 20th century. Charles Dickens will have to be binned, for a start...
I gave them the benefit of the 'some bad apples' doubt after the child abuse scandal, but this has tipped the scales for me. I'm not a regular Oxfam donator, but would drop in items to the local charity shop as it's got a prime location on the High Street, and you pass it to get to the main shopping area. I'll go a bit further up the hill now, and take them to BHF instead.

I know there's bad apples in just about every organisation like this, it's a reality, and I'd always be prepared to give the benefit of the doubt to the majority. But claims were made and OXFAM ignored them - failed to act on them.
That was the end for me, before this. Taking some sort of 'moral high-ground' now, enthusiastically embracing inclusiveness when they couldn't even be bothered to deal with the claims of some of the most excluded beings on the planet.
I know. I just felt that the majority of employees shouldn't be blamed for the behaviour of the guilty ones, but I no longer feel that the ethos is not one I can continue to support, even insofar as contributing my old items is concerned.
Just thought I'd pop this in. Hope it's helpful.

Thanks FarNorth the narcissism of it is so revealing.
I've posted this on the Oxfam/JKR thread.
If anyone has withdrawn financial support from Oxfam, be aware that donations through DEC could mean your money would still be funnelled through Oxfam, there is no way to specify an objection. Best to give directly to the Charity of your choice.
Oh I thought it was taking the mickey out of the issue, have I got that wrong?

That's what I thought, but in the world through the looking glass, who can tell any more?
Oh goodness I've seen so many of this type of thing that are supposed to be taken seriously, I suppose I didn't question
If Eddie can have girl mode and boy mode.........
Honestly, Rosie, when you think of some of the things people are expected to believe, this is no more barmy than many, is it?
Glamour Magazine has a pregnant transman on the cover, for instance. What next?
