I think perhaps, Oxfam, which relies on the goodwill and donations of the general public, should get back to basics - assisting starving and deprived people across the world.

I can see donations drying up.🙄

There was a backlash against Oxfam a while ago when they banned a game that celebrated women. I can’t remember the detail now, but the gist was that the featured women were actual women and there were no transwomen, and worse, it featured JKR amongst the female role models.

I do remember that Doodledog was it something to do with successful/inspirational women?

Why on earth has Oxfam allowed itself to become embroiled in this? It makes no sense and what's the point of stating 'diversity makes us', when the only opinions and the people giving them that are allowed, are the ones that you agree with?

Yes, it was bing (I've googled) and was withdrawn because 'trans colleagues' felt that they weren't included, and that the inclusion of JKR meant that the game 'was not in line with Oxfam's values'.

Which of course begs the question, why would trans be included in a game about successful/inspirational women but we know the answer don't we .

Well, I'm not donating money to support this lunacy, and I don't think (by other SM), I'm alone in this.

No you're not alone DL. We stopped giving to Oxfam when we learned about the child abuse scandal and TBH did feel guilty but as you say, there are other charities for us to support but how many are going to miss out because of a reduction in donations to Oxfam.

This is a still from Oxfam's LGBT+ ad, which they have now taken down. The 'TERF' is supposedly JKR, which is probably why - her lawyers are very good.

What any of this has to do with prevention and amelioration of famine is beyond me.

I'm just stunned that OXFAM would so immerse itself into this 'war' instead of putting it's house in order after the appalling abuse and focusing on the purpose of its existence.

They banned "Wonder Woman Bingo" from sale in their stores - are they now looking around to see what else they can censor I wonder? Harry Potter's books and merchandise?

It's just madness. Biological women exist - we are, along with biological men, a protected group. But we're not allowed to question those who insist that we don't?

OXFAM will have to employ some extra staff - to examine all the books that pass through their outlets... there are hundreds of authors who write fiction based on the assumption of two sexes, including those from the 19th and 20th century. Charles Dickens will have to be binned, for a start...

I'm not a regular Oxfam donator, but would drop in items to the local charity shop as it's got a prime location on the High Street, and you pass it to get to the main shopping area. I'll go a bit further up the hill now, and take them to BHF instead.

I know there's bad apples in just about every organisation like this, it's a reality, and I'd always be prepared to give the benefit of the doubt to the majority. But claims were made and OXFAM ignored them - failed to act on them.

That was the end for me, before this. Taking some sort of 'moral high-ground' now, enthusiastically embracing inclusiveness when they couldn't even be bothered to deal with the claims of some of the most excluded beings on the planet.

I know. I just felt that the majority of employees shouldn't be blamed for the behaviour of the guilty ones, but I no longer feel that the ethos is not one I can continue to support, even insofar as contributing my old items is concerned.

If anyone has withdrawn financial support from Oxfam, be aware that donations through DEC could mean your money would still be funnelled through Oxfam, there is no way to specify an objection. Best to give directly to the Charity of your choice.
