Has the penny dropped (as fast as the Pound)- Brexit is a disaster

Is there anyone here on GN still prepared to stand and say that it is not- and give evidence to the effect?

Indeed Foxy. I have spent an annual holiday in this area with family for more years than I can remember, before moving here seven years ago. I therefore know just a smidgen more about what goes on here than the OP. She might be surprised at the number of wealthy professionals who have chosen to retire to these parts, hence the pockets of very high property prices - we are not a bunch of ignorant carrot crunchers.

No-one has said this. Those who have paid huge sums of money to live there are, most of them, Conservatives.

Yes, we have spent most of our family holidays in North Norfolk, which is one of our favourite places in the UK. And we have close relatives and friends there too.

Why is someone who doesn’t live in the UK or EU obsessed with Brexit?

Ah, that’s the £64,000 question we’ve been asking since 2016.

Kandinsky

You know very well why. Because we are British and totally dependent on British pensions as we have lived and worked all our life in Great Britain. And with all our family still there, ACs, GCs, and so many great friends. Because we love our country, and find it so desperately sad to see it being affected so badly. But you KNOW this, as I have explained this many times.

Of course I will be back- but for now, garden calls, then friends and dog walk. Bye for now.

For when I come back Kandinsky, could you please make a list of Brexit benefits? Many of us have asked politely many times, but somehow, we have not yet seen one, at all.

I don’t know anything about you - apart from your views on Brexit. Up until 5 minutes ago I didn’t know you lived abroad,
I don’t read every post on every thread, and even when I do read posts I forget ( almost immediately ) who posted it.

Anyway, enjoy your garden!
It’s a lovely day here in the UK too.

Come on Kandinsky jump to it . The OP 's arrogance is breathtaking !

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 18-Jun-23 10:19:32

Is that some sort of one-upmanship Fleurpepper? A childish contest as to who knows the area where I live best? Yes, we have Conservative MPs but let me assure you that not every owner of an expensive home here that I know votes for that party. I have neighbours who own properties in EU countries who, amazingly, carry on with their lives living part of the year here and part in the EU. Their children and grandchildren live in the UK. Even they are not obsessed with Brexit, sad though we all were in the immediate aftermath of the vote. They don’t dwell on it and talk about it all the time. They and we have accepted the situation and moved on. Why on earth can’t you?

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 18-Jun-23 10:21:14

I think teacher has set you your homework kandinsky.

Callistemon21 Sun 18-Jun-23 10:22:06

😁

It's a GCSE project Kandinsky, has to be in by 12 noon BST on 18/6/2023.
Failure to do so will result in detention.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 18-Jun-23 10:23:31

Chop chop!

Kandinsky Sun 18-Jun-23 10:27:00

grin

Callistemon21 Sun 18-Jun-23 10:31:59

Stop wasting time on here Kandidky

Although you could look through the thread as Joseann has been valiantly trying to find some positive outcomes of Brexit
😁

I could start you off with another one but that would be cheating.

Callistemon21 Sun 18-Jun-23 10:32:29

Sorry: Kandinsky

ImogenMac Sun 18-Jun-23 10:37:13

I’m glad and relieved that someone so dogmatic and disrespectful is no longer part of our teaching profession. It’s not about methods or style, more inbuilt DNA towards others of a different opinion .
Rational debate is impossible.

In real life, how would you react ?

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 18-Jun-23 10:37:32

If I see any signs of cheating I will tell teacher. And she’s probably got anti-plagiarism software so don’t try googling.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 18-Jun-23 10:39:17

Very rudely, Imogen. Words would be spoken which are not allowed here.

Maremia Sun 18-Jun-23 11:06:29

Seriously? 31 pages in, and no BREXIT benefits yet? Wonder why that could be?

Perhaps posters don't respond to demands?

fancythat Sun 18-Jun-23 11:32:11

We are grateful we
Dont not have peace
Are not even more beholden to the EU
Are not even more ruled by them
Are not even more told what to do and not do by them
Are not even more embroiled in an EU army that was being muted
Have a smidgen more control over our lives
Are not even more embroiled in the laws that were to come/might have come
Have not lost even more identity

I could go on and on. And on. And on. And on. And on.

But all this was discussed many years ago.
No, I will not reply to anyone directly who does not seem to have grasped/learnt/memorised anything whatsoever in 7 years. What on earth would be the point in the slightest.

Parsley3 Sun 18-Jun-23 11:39:27

Brexit has hit pensioners who live abroad but not so much those of us in the UK.
However, as someone who does think Brexit was a very big mistake I will hold my nose and actually suggest a benefit. HGV drivers became so scarce that they were offered handsome pay rises as an incentive to recruit more. . I heard this on a radio phone in from a driver who was delighted with this outcome. Of course, in true BBC fashion, I do this in the interest of balance.

Greta Sun 18-Jun-23 11:45:41

Maremia, I think Kandinsky has answered your question:
"Why vote for it then?
Because I like knowing we’re no longer tied to the EU - that’s enough for me.
I honestly can’t think of a single negative to being out of the EU, & I’m still so proud of the UK for voting to leave."
In other words who cares about consequences?

Yeah, I've given up finding them, Callistemon because I'm not getting any praise for effort, and you know how that demoralises the eager pupil!

Now for today's lighthearted post ......
What did Rishi Sunak think he was doing giving the French or the EU half a billion pounds to hire more border guards? I've just sat in the queue waiting to board the ferry, when tap tap on my car window, and a nan in a red security jacket asks me, "have you any immigrés with you?" NO. "OK, merci." Is that all we get for our £500 million?
What a joke! I hope Macron is having a nice Sunday lunch and a fine bottle of wine or two on us today. ⛴️ 👋

Joseann Sun 18-Jun-23 11:49:34

* A man not a nan, although a GNsnetter might have had more of a clue!

Kandinsky Sun 18-Jun-23 11:59:56

‘Benefits of Brexit’ can easily be googled.
There’s a 100 page government document outlining the benefits - it’s there for all to see at the touch of a few buttons.

Wanting individual G’netters to list the benefits just gives opportunities for more arguments. ( maybe that’s the point? )
At the end of the day, if you’re that disappointed with brexit nothing anyone posts will help.

Maremia Sun 18-Jun-23 12:00:50

Good try, but no gold star. We all know why there is not list posted, because there is no list!

Maggiemaybe Sun 18-Jun-23 12:12:25

And as if by magic…

Best discount the minor detail of the little-known politician who wrote the foreword and some of the more fanciful benefits (imperial crowns on pint glasses, indeed grin). And no doubt much will be up for debate or scorn. But there are some actual benefits in there.

I once had to abandon a project because of the public procurement rules. I’m glad they’ve gone.
