When the pandemic started, we had a short time when the world locked down. Planes weren’t flying, people stayed at home. And, am I right in thinking that the world started to heal itself. Now, I’m not saying we have to go back to living in a pre Industrial Revolution way but couldn’t the world get together and have short periods of time where we give the planet a break from our pollution?

What gets me is these just stop oil protestors is for a start their slogan . Just stop oil. I know they want to stop industrial pollution from fossil fuels. But their slogan Just stop oil. Always makes me wonder if they want to stop olive ,reap seed and other oils. Yes I know it sounds ridiculous but that's what I think everytime I see their slogan.
Also don't any of these people have jobs to go to ,or homes and families to look after?

Sorry they are physically getting attacked but what do they expect . People need to get to work, school run etc. How many people have missed hospital appointments because of them etc.

They will never win and they are just annoying people . Plus how are they getting to the protest places? Bet a lot travel by car or public transport. Doubt very much they walk or cycle .

One answer is to stop all the nimbyism that goes on in the UK.

Here in France grants are available for solar panels. at a nearby town the commune have built a large array of solar panels between the autoroute and the town. Supermarkets everywhere are installing covered parking with solar panels.
Windmills are appearing everywhere. We haven't been back to the UK since pre- covid but I used to like seeing the windmills along the north coast of France. They always remind me of the windmills that we had as children.

Visiting Italy pre covid and travelling by train we saw arrays of solar panels built on wast ground near marshalling yards.

The last time I was in Suffolk I saw many new housing estates but not one with solar panels on the roofs. Why not?

Isn't it because David Cameron said 'Cut the green crap' and we've had tory governments ever since?

Tories ordered that no more planning permission could be given for onshore wind farms. Until then they were proliferating all over the place.

I expect also that solar panel manufacturers haven't bunged enough money in the direction of the tory party...

Solar panels are being put on church roofs here in Norfolk. There are also solar panel farms and offshore wind farms.

My staunchly labour London borough refuses to allow solar panels on any houses in designated ‘conservation areas’ and have ordered people that fitted them to have them removed. They are building properties with heat exchangers and solar panels, but consider our older properties mustn’t be defiled by such energy saving initiatives. ‘Some’ people seem to get away with other types of prohibited changes, perhaps they’ve bunged the right people in planning?

Just Stop Oil is a waste of space - they are not helpful, simply exhibitionist. We need grown up politicians to resolve the climate crisis following the advice of leading scientists.
