Brexit Import controls delayed for the FOURTH TIME!

How can businesses, trying to recover from Covid and the war in Ukraine, etc- cope with not knowing if and when and how they will be able to import from EU? This is an absolute shambles- and indicates that the Tory Governement were, at the time of the Referendum, totally unprepared for the consequences, and still are clueless 7 years later.

Controls were supposed to be finally imposed from 1st of November- 11 weeks from now. Businesses, hauliers, etc, etc, are supposed to be spending much time, and costly expertise, technology, etc- preparing - AGAIN - but still have NO information at all about how it will work and be implemented- for the 4th time- in just a few weeks.

Could you really blame EU and other exporters to UK if they just decide that, in those circumstances- they will just stop exporting to UK. We are not talking here about fancy cheeses and wine, but essential goods, chemicals, medicines, parts, fruit and veg, and so much more. At the moment, the EU could export anything to the UK without any controls- yes MEAT and other stuff that could bring catastrophic disease and sub-standard electrical goods, etc.

What a shambles.

I have empathy and understanding it’s not exclusive to those who voted remain.

I also have a DH still involved with an international charity organisation.

So why do you keep saying 'Me and mine are fine, alright Jack' - very strange.

This post DaisyAnneReturns for example

Thank you Foxgloves

Can I respectfully point out (not for the first time) that I have never posted

Me and mine are fine, alright Jack

Oh do calm down everyone. This thread is supposed to be about Brexit import controls.

Sorry GrannyGravy, I couldn't see anywhere that you had, but I was trying to work out how the post related to mine.

I came do the conclusion that there was just a bit of infighting going on and thought it best to say nothing.

I don’t think anyone has said that, but we have been accused of doing so.

Callistemon ''You might have known it's the British who work at Nestlé who are at fault MerylStreep''

I never brought up Nestlé- it was cheaply 'thrown at me in ridiculous retaliation'! And no, not just Brits, but lots and lots of Americans too- living there in expat bubbles. And many other nationalities, including those pesky Swiss without any morals. How anyone could work for Nestlé, is beyond me. It has nothing at all to do in this thread however, and it was pathetic to post in order to make yet another personal attack- which has clearly nothing to do with subject or poster.

As said, same for other firms like Phillip Morris.

Those in the industries affected are very concerned about this further delay and the consequences. If some of you are not, or will not even think about it - your choice. But it will bite all of us on the bit still sticking out of the sand.

Did anyone listen to the piece on Radio 4 about the big problem the French are having recruiting farm workers?
It appears the Romanians and Bulgarians are not going there anymore to pick the harvests.
Now call me stupid but we have been constantly told that the reason these farm workers aren’t coming here was because of Brexit. According to the piece I listened to it has nothing to do with Brexit, after all, France is well and truely in the EU. 🤔

Returning to the thread's title I saw today that Therese Coffey's officials have ended the trial digitisation of health certificates for fish and chilled food being exported to the EU without any indication of a replacement. This was a system planned to end the paperwork needed post-Brexit. Scottish salmon exports to the EU are an important UK business (£760 million yearly) andd they and others will be left with continuing red tape costs like lots of other chilled food businesses. Yet another score for this Tory government. How much longer?

How come? Everything is digitised these days.

Another DH saying:
She couldn't organise a feast of pigeons in a cornfield.
(Or a run of salmon up a river.)
