The mindless minority are those who think Brexit has been a success.

Just that really. Sounds as though it’s going to be announced soon. One of the many things we lost because of Brexit. I didn’t really know much about it till it was mentioned in the TRIP’s Leading interview with Paul Nurse.
The mindless minority are those who think Brexit has been a success.

Or, it would have been a success if it had been done right...

Is this another thin edge of the wedge, or way of reversing the Brexit vote to advantage of the of the non-thinking anti-Brexiteers. I could say a lot more but I am fed up with the continual whinging of the mindless minority.
Is it possible to have a discussion about Brexit without descending to cliches such as 'Remoaners' (at least think up an original insult if you must be rude), or 'mindless' - what does that even mean in this context?
I am under the impression that surveys show if there were a vote tomorrow it would be to remain, so those in favour would be the minority, but the point of discussions like this is for individuals to give their views, not to resort to meaningless jibes.
Why not 'say a lot more' if you have anything worth saying? Most people are able to respect the fact that there is more than one point of view on the matter.
Usuallyright have a look at other avid brexiters - I recommend looking at urmstons posts. I disagree with practically everything she says, but I have a lot of respect for her as she posts with such grace, without feeling the need to be rude or unpleasantness.
In fact there have been a couple of times I have posted back being a bit sharp and always regret doing so, because she is always so nice in her posts (but of course entirely wrong😄😄) and that’s all I have to say on the subject!!
At last Horizon funding is back but how many thousands will be applying for funding after such a long gap. Loss of horizon funding has been disastrous for so many
I see that the pundits are of the opinion that closer working will be inevitable, and introduced by the next government whatever its colour.
In 2025 there is a review of the 5 year agreement, and that is when we should expect and get closer relations.
What a lovely compliment to pay me Whitewave! I just think descending into childish jibes spoils a healthy debate. I realise I’m in the minority (especially on GN - or those who post anyway 🤣) but I wouldn’t say I was ‘mindless’. That’s a bit of an insult.
Often I feel I’m a lone voice in the wind ha! But it generates responses and keeps a thread feisty and ongoing. More entertaining to read than an echo chamber! I know my role and play it as best I can when my circs allow.

You are welcome🙂👍
The DT is talking rubbish. There are leading research teams in the EU as we saw in the German development of Covid vaccine. Not being in the Horizon programme prevented leading EU scientists joining UK universities and UK university research teams taking the lead in some key projects. The notion that the EU is a research backwater is simply wishful thinking. The fact that Sunak has decided to join Horizon shows that the Global Britain alternative was unlikely to deliver.

Not sure I read your post right. You do know who is continually whinging mindless minority is now- don't you?
The day after the referendum DD and her colleagues had a meeting with some of their European colleagues. When they walked through the door they were greeted with "What the f* have you done?" Since then funding has dried up, projects have been turned down and foreign students are thin on the ground. Her feeling is that returning to Horizon is great, but it will take years to repair the damage.

Urmstongran doesn't resort to insults (at least, I've not seen any) and gives her reasons for voting Brexit. And I respect her for that - even though I don't agree with her

In answer to your first question - probably not. Brexit will not be 'reversed'. The UK government - whichever it might be - in the distant future (when we might be dead and gone) could well make tentative steps to re-join at some point. Probably, possibly, the deciding factor for such a decision will be an economic one. Most decisions are made on that basis.
Your second 'point' is debatable - it could well be that Brexiters are now in the minority.
My point is - why do you have to be so rude in your choice of language?
And, finally, no-one is stopping you from "saying a lot more" - that is, generally, what a debate is about.

Thirded…
I’ve been on GN for years and the only posters I’ve seen hurling insults around have been remainers.
They still ‘demand’ leavers give their reasons for voting brexit ( 10 years on) still insist leavers have ruined their lives & stolen their children’s futures etc etc - no wonder hardly any leavers post on this board.
The vast, vast, majority of people on the news & politics board are anti government, & anti brexit, and a few have been extremely insulting over the years. One or two possibly even banned as I haven’t seen one particular one in a while.
So all this singling out one leave voter as ‘okay’ is quite insulting in itself don’t you think? It just means the rest of us are inferior species who can’t string a sentence together.
So yes, an insult in disguise.
Kandinsky not only insulting but boring. The same old blinkered only my view is right too often prevails. I know exactly what some posters will say and no arguments logical or otherwise will be considered so there is little point in posting. Good on Urmstongran for her perseverance.

But that’s because if we ask where are the trade deals, where are the benefits, why are we still unable to control our borders, what has happened to the public figures that supported Brexit al we get is ‘ there’s no point saying anything because you won’t listen anyway’. Believe it or not, for the sake of our children and grandchildren we want it to work, but it just isn’t happening.
I'm not sure that I can take a post seriously when it is made by someone who can take 16 away from 23 and make the answer 10.
Not one single Leave voter, not even the Blessed UG, has ever, since before the referendum, given a coherent and logical reason for their vote.

Why are you relying on a handful of grans to give you these answers? Some of the questions you ask we won’t have the answers to, because it’s not us doing the negotiations.
I know some remainers just use leave voters as a target to vent their anger, they know deep down nothing they say to them will change anything - but for five minutes of tapping away angrily they’ve let off steam and probably feel better temporarily, but nothing has changed. So what is the point?
The only reason I looked at this brexit thread ( I hide 99% of them ) is because the thread title is slightly misleading.
We wanted to rejoin a few years ago as I’m sure has been explained further up the thread ( haven’t read all posts )

In your opinion.
I voted leave because I wanted to. That’s reason enough.
We actually don’t need to have a rational explanation from a brexiter - simply because we now know that Brexit is a busted flush. The reasons for voting to leave were wide and varied - many because the lies were believed, a few for nefarious reasons best really not explored - and some to get back at the austerity programme and Cameron’s hopeless government.
We now understand that it has blown up entirely.
So that at least means that we will gradually get closer to our neighbours and the biggest economic block in the world.
So brexiters I am sorry your hopes and sunny uplands are away with the fairies and of course it is very difficult for some of you to admit that Brexit is kaput but please don’t worry your country will be all the better for it eventually. - although you will be pleased to know re-joining will probably not be in our lifetimes.

😀😀 you sound like a petulant 3 year old!
And why did remainers vote to remain? Look how well Germany is doing? Not. It was agreed when we left we would still be part of Horizon as are several other non EU countries but the EU reneged on that using the Northern Ireland protocol as an excuse/reason. Now that has been resolved we have been allowed to rejoin which is to the advantage of scientific progress. It does not mean we are going back into Europe by any means. Not being in the EU meant we got our own vaccine for Covid first and we have been able to help Ukraine. Brexit deniers will not accept any of this so I’m off for more worthwhile persuits.
