Labour has won both byelections

I am a LIbDem but I would have voted Labout in Tamworth.

In MidBeds which was a three way contest I would have voted LibDem.

As in all by-elections, the turnout in MidBeds was low and so the Tories voted collapsed but the number of votes cast for the Labour Party also fell, compared to 2019 actually also fell!

Of the three Parties, only the LIbDems actually increased their vote!

Vote Labour, vote woke.

Precisely, varian. Turnout is always higher in a general election. The seats could well change hands again.

Smoke and mirrors here. The Labour vote share increased by 12.4%, the Lib Dem vote share increased by 10.5%.

The Lib Dem’s did well, but not as well as Labour did. The actual numbers who voted was lower, as for all by elections, so it doesn’t prove anything to say less people voted Labour than in 2019.

PS as I mentioned before, I don’t think Labour were expecting to win this seat.

To be fair if Starmer wins the next election by securing every single seat in the country there will still be some convoluted reason why this isnt a success.

Despite the vast majority of Labour supporters (I believe around 80%) being in favour of PR, I expect that once in power any moves to meaningful reform of the democratic process in Britain will be quietly shelved by the Labour elite.

It’s not a case of PR being shelved, because to be shelved it would have to be an existing Labour pledge, and it isn’t? I think you’ve confused Labour Party members with Labour supporters too, as although there is crossover they aren’t the same group?

That's because turnout is always low in byelections. However, whatever the turnout, with such a huge majority at the last GE the tories should have wiped the floor with Labour and the LibDems. The fact that they didn't is a tad significant...

I’m delighted at the result. I don’t support a specific party, I look at the manifesto to help me decide. I also look at the impact the existing party has had and that would stop me voting blue. Time for a change, far too much corruption in government here.

MaizieD whatever anyone thinks of BJ, he certainly knew how to play to the mob. He won the last landslide victory almost single handedly? The Conservative Party don’t have the same back up now and this plays out for the individual mp. Also Dorries is seen as a BJ supporter and the brand is now toxic. There are a lot of disillusioned voters currently and mid-Beds might vote differently next time round. The Conservative core may return?

I see that Sunak has mentioned cutting the tax for the highest earners.

What worries me greatly is some members of the Labour Party seem very Woke! Sir K couldn’t even give a proper definition of a woman ! I wonder if he will back all this pronoun nonsense. Heyho nothing I can do about it.

I am hoping they have listened on that issue but I am wary, many women wont forgive them if they return to pretending men are women and the safeguarding issues that that involves. I think the way that many Eiropean countries are changing their position on this in relation to children will help.
