Just that really

It’s on the News now!

I missed the main news. Little trick or treaters knocked on the door, I couldn't help contrasting their happy little faces with those of the traumatised faces of children in Palestine and worrying about what has happened to the Israeli child hostages.

Iam64 Tue 31-Oct-23 20:17:45

Im conflicted as well. I agree Israel has the right to self defence. I understand that means finding Hamas leaders, who we are told are hiding in tunnels strategically placed under hospitals, residential areas.
I accept the arguments for planned periods of ceasefire to enable essentials into Gaza - West Bank. None of this helps me accept the blanket bombing being inflicted on innocent children and civilians

Katie59 Tue 31-Oct-23 20:44:32

The UN and other aid agencies that are screaming in Gaza now are the same agencies that turned a blind eye to Hamas arming itself for this war. They must have known what Hamas was doing, Israel also must have had a pretty good idea what was happening and was caught unprepared by the surprise large scale attack.

Unfortunately I agree

Over 50 UN workers have died Katie59 you might show them some respect. They are in Gaza to ensure the huge number of refugees are fed and cared for. Not to take sides.

I feel the same. If Israel would agree to a ceasefire, even a temporary one, to allow aid into Gaza and Hamas don’t comply, it would shift the balance of support that Israel has gradually been losing since they entered Gaza. Even their most ardent supporters are appalled by the scenes we’re seeing on the News reports.

paddyann54 Tue 31-Oct-23 21:32:00

This isn't self defence, they apparently knew about the attack and ignored the information. That left their own people vulnerable and at risk of death...as happened.
Israel is and has been a terrorist state for decades its just taking things to another level now and MUST be stopped .This is not about stopping Hamas its about wiping out the Palestinian people so they can continue their expansion onto the land.
Watch this space ,this is the "final solution" in progress and we're all sitting and watching the victim who became the aggressor .We are complicit in upwards of 8000 deaths in two weeks.I'll be back out on Saturday as will my Jewish friends ,we've been marching against Israeli state policies against the Palestinians for a long time.Shame the rest of you are so late to the cause

Galaxy Tue 31-Oct-23 22:07:34

I have learnt of late to be terrified of those who see themselves as the good guys.

Nothing more than this need be said

Callistemon21 Tue 31-Oct-23 22:36:50

Please stop attacking posters, paddyann, this is not the first time you have done it.

Most of us are appalled by what has and is happening, has happened for decades, but can see the wrongs perpetrated by both sides by both Hamas and Netanyahu and his government.

We pray for a ceasefire and for some kind of truce in the future but, with the atrocities carried out by both sides, that is unlikely to happen for a very long time.
There has been discussion for years about UN peacekeepers being involved, perhaps if they had this dreadful war may have been averted.

Oreo Tue 31-Oct-23 22:42:58

A very self righteous message to the whole of GN PaddyAnn
Maybe not everybody believes the same as you, just a thought!
Btw Israel is not a terrorist state, but hamas are certainly terrorists.

Callistemon21 Tue 31-Oct-23 22:46:54

"^final solution^" and using that phrase, paddyann, knowing its connotations, is abhorrent.

I agree, it’s really unacceptable.

Unbelievable that anyone would / could use the words
‘final solution’

Aid workers know the risks they know that Hamas firing rockets and killing Israelis is going to lead to another war. Every death is a tragedy how long will it take for Hamas to accept they are not going to win this time.

Iam64 Wed 01-Nov-23 07:41:28

The use of the words ‘final solution’ is deplorable. Paddyann is unfortunately not the first apologist for Hamas posting on gransnet to use it.

It’s also untrue to write ‘we are all sitting and watching the victim who became the aggressor’.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 01-Nov-23 07:52:46

Despicable post paddyann54

How dare you insult GN posters, not one post has not been sympathetic to all innocent civilians whether they be in Gaza or Israel.

As for your final solution comment that renders me speechless…

Breakfast news is reporting that Qatar has brokered a deal with Hamas and the Egyptians to open the Rafa crossing to allow the sick and wounded into Egypt for medical treatment.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 01-Nov-23 08:11:32

Egypt is also allowing aid trucks to pass into Gaza

Thanks GG13.

Israel is a terrorist state. They are illegally occupying Palestine, practicing apartheid against the Palestinian people. They control everything food water power electricity fuel. They have a vast arsenal of weaponry supplied by the USA and UK The Palestinians are displaced most are refugees, living in a open air concentration camp. Israel has grabbed nearly all the Palestinian land. With the continued bombardment the Palestinians and their children are living in constant fear.

Israel must end their illegal occupation and apartheid.
The U.N. Security Council and other countries must stop step in, stop supporting Israel’s genocide.

South Africa know all about apartheid they are urging other countries to step up and boycott Israel stop the genocide.
Bolivia has stopped support of Israel.
America is a warmongering country they have sanctions on about 20 countries. There days of causing wars spending billions on wars could be soon over other developing countries have better ways of doing things.

Britain should call for a ceasefire immediately millions around the world want the killing of Palestinians of which half of them are children to stop.

There was a sit in in Liverpool Street Station lead by Jews Against Genocide. They say they will stay until there is a ceasefire.

A pity they won’t allow all the people waiting there with dual nationality passports who just want to get home to their own countries to go through into Egypt.

Apparently that is also a possibility according to Breakfast News (ITV) but the wounded and aid are going to take priority.

Israel is not a terrorist state, it was created finally after WW2 as a legal country after the murder of at least 6 million Jews. After the war those surviving Jews had virtually nowhere to go, their former countries for the most part rejecting them. Jews Muslims and Christians have lived in this area for millennium, mostly peacefully, sometimes not. Jews have as much right to live in the Holy Land as as have others and to say they should all be murdered and Israel destroyed is just anti semitism, nothing else. Perhaps Paddyanne doesn't understand what the'final solution ' actually meant; its to be hoped she didn't, otherwise it was a truly truly dreadful comment to make. Yes, there are horrors on both sides of this latest conflict, but Hammas knew full well what Israel's reaction would be to the massacre, and reading about the cruelty meted out to those poor people makes ones blood run cold. How on earth Israel allowed that to happen begs a huge question and has brokered a lot of anger. The scenes in Gaza are absolutely awful, but again how on earth could their government, any government provoke such an appalling situation to be deliberately foisted onto the people they should be protecting? Imagine if our government attacked France in such a fashion, having goaded them for years with rocket attacks, and then when France retaliated, took off for a safe country leaving us to feel the full force of a full blown war? Unthinkable? of course it is, well who knows? Whatever can happen to anyone else could happen to to us.

I hope it will be distributed properly to the people who are in desperate need, and not left locked in a warehouse to be taken over by Hamas.
