Should any marches around or near the Cenotaph this weekend not be allowed?

Following the defacing of a Cenotaph in Rotherham yesterday, would it be advisable for the police to rule that marches in or around the area of the Cenotaph should not be allowed, this weekend only?
A poppy seller was attacked by people in a huge crowd this week, people who have been marching on previous weekends have committed hate crimes by calling for Jews to be eliminated. Should the sanctity of the Cenotaph and the Remembrance Service be at the mercy of the marchers to choose to do the right thing? Why was a Cenotaph thought to be a legitimate target in Rotherham?
Surely those who live in our liberal democracy should understand why this weekend is particularly special to so many people. Those of us who live in this country, a liberal democracy, should understand that compared to so many people in the world, we are very lucky to live in a country that affords us great freedoms, including the right to protest peacefully. Peaceful protest however, does not include the right to call for the deaths of other people, to attack poppy sellers or others, or to deface public buildings.
Why are the London police refusing to use the laws that are already available to ban any marching around this area for for this one weekend?

I’m not saying she shouldn’t have gone but all this chopping and changing doesn’t inspire confidence in the government, quite the reverse in fact.

Nigel Farage suggests that the majority of voters are behind SB.
A long time until the General Election so all water under the bridge by then…..

Well Nigel, we’ve seen her supporters’ ‘defending the cenotaph’, attacking the police and shouting racial abuse. Knuckle-dragging, flag-waving, foul-mouthed football hooliganism clutching cans of lager and hyped up on drugs.

The pride of British manhood!

A touch emotional Quokka?

maddyone Mon 13-Nov-23 10:07:53

What’s ROFL?

eazybee Mon 13-Nov-23 10:47:37

ROLF?
I am increasingly irritated by people who cannot be bothered to type the words they mean.
Laziness.

maddyone Mon 13-Nov-23 10:49:00

But what does it mean?

ronib Mon 13-Nov-23 10:50:29

Roll on floor laughing.
Only we’re not.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 13-Nov-23 10:52:55

You and me both eazybee. It seems Quokka likes doing this. TIC on another thread. I’m not a fan of text speak.

maddyone Mon 13-Nov-23 10:57:58

Thank you ronib.
Now I don’t know what TIC means either.

So, no evidence at all of a 'silent majority' supporting Braverman?

I'm relieved...

MaizieD the government is not the silent majority. If Kemi Badenoch is appointed Home Secretary there really is something fishy in Westminster. Wait and see.
Of course SB doesn’t mind being sacked as it happens regularly. I think she has leadership aspirations.

There are times when I find your thought processes incomprehensible, ronib.

Where did I say that the government were the 'silent majority'?

ronib Mon 13-Nov-23 11:39:28

MaizieD my thoughts are that the government is out of step with the country and the government doesn’t reflect the silent majority!
At the moment it’s hard to think of who the government does represent but they are obviously working on it with all the shuffling around.

It means a nervous twitch

ronib Mon 13-Nov-23 11:44:06

Or the immaculate conception?

Callistemon21 Mon 13-Nov-23 11:56:50

I do wish posters would stop using the term "knuckle draggers" to describe the extreme right thugs such as Stephen Yaxley-Lennon and his group.

Some people seem to think it is a suitably worse description than thug which in fact means a violent, aggressive person, especially one who is a criminal.
It is not.

Thug is more apt than knuckle dragger.

It is disrespectful to those in the animal world such as chimpanzees, gorillas and others which do walk on their knuckles. Knuckle draggers are no more peculiarthan bipeds like humans and kangaroos, as were some dinosaurs.

This is not a joke btw.
Every time I read it, it grates.

OK I’m fine with Thug😄

Thug it will be - but you must admit they appear to be people of little brain.

Engerland!!!

Anniebach Mon 13-Nov-23 13:49:49

Yes of little brain, they should have worn headdresses , covered their faces and carry anti Semitic banners

I think most of us know all about St George but thank you anyway

😁

Maybe GNers do but possibly not the majority of the population.

Dinahmo I don’t find it hard to believe that the silent majority support Suella Braverman - and I don’t think that she will be ousted. Gove needs to go.

I find it very hard to believe.

Where is the evidence to support this assertion?

It's all those people who have feelings, rather than considering the facts.

I mentioned somewhere that I watched David Bull's programme on Talk TV yesterday. His co presenter constantly repeated that SB was supported by the Silent Majority. I've no idea where she got her information from. However the weekend, on various talk shows the majority of callers did agree with her.

If there's any truth in it it, it's very sad.

Cenotaphs are fine symbols of individuals who have died and suffered in wars. Cenotaphs do not belong only to those who think only British individuals suffered.

The ceremony as is, with its marching men and expensively dressed aristocracy and politicians, now appears to be a symbol of establishment values. These people ought to be apparelled in the rags of contrition. Remember the bombing of Dresden.
