Israel claims that UN aid workers were involved in the October 7 attack and - without any independent proof - UN suspends aid with immediate effect.
Why? Does Netanyahu - an unbalanced individual at best - have so much influence on the United Nations, an organisation which has proved itself fairly useless down the decades?

I’m just hoping that it happens before the violence becomes more widespread - it isn’t looking good at the moment.

After watching the BBC programme about the nuclear clock/threat I’m desperately hope that the world begins to choose peace - it is looking frightful.

Defense secretary in parliament just now implied that it's up to us to safeguard other countries, at the same time forgetting that the warship we were going to send to the area wasn't functioning properly.

What rubbish! We haven’t got a big enough army to defend ourselves let alone other countries.

UN agencies like UNRWA may not be perfect, they may even harbour some bad apples but they are absolutely our best hope to alleviate suffering and bring about peace.

We are doomed then.

We certainly dont want to get into a serious conflict with the military we have at present, moreover the US doesn't have the resources to fight a conventional war at present.
The weapons the west has at its disposal are being used up at an alarming rate in Ukraine and Israel, I’m sure Iran would love to provoke a third front in the Gulf. The whole region is powder keg Saudi, Jordan and Egypt are all propped up by the US it’s hard to see a way out that does not involve a defeat or backdown by one side or the other.

There’s a lot of war mongering going on in this country, too. My grandsons school had someone from the army giving a careers guidance talk the other day: told them being a soldier was less dangerous than being a farmer or working for the NHS. My daughter told the school that maybe it was safer because we aren’t deploying our troops anywhere.

The armed forces have always gone into schools to give career talks. It’s nothing new or threatening.
I would think it was quite dangerous in the military during the Iraqi war or Afghanistani war, and rather less so now.
But obviously we do not know what will happen in the future, particularly the near future.
I understand your concern about your grandson though.
