This is really getting too much a 68 year old lady visiting her grandson was mauled to death yesterday by the family dogs believed to be unregistered XLBully s in Jaywick Essex
There were also 6 puppies in the house
The grandson who is 10 saw it happen, traumatised for life I would think
The rules for owners are now in place will the owner be jailed for murder ?
What a dreadful way to die
The police have GOT to follow this with the strongest of punishments in my opinion

Well he would say that wouldn’t he he’s trying to wriggle out of his responsibility for his mother in law being mauled to death in front of his son
I hope the child is taken away from him and I hope he serves time

The owner is now saying he wants all these dogs wiped out. He hadn’t thought they were dangerous and thought the government were being stupid. H sadly he has learnt the hard way and his son is probably traumatised for life.

The prosecution will enjoy cross examining him.

He can't be that thick!
Can he?

I hope that poor boy will get all the help he needs and will be brought up by kind, caring people.

The man has bail - surely the child is not allowed to live with him while the father awaits trial?

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 06-Feb-24 16:09:39

I think that’s inevitable if these were unregistered XL bullies, and he had bred from them.

A local rescue that I support has an XL bully. They’ve had to increase their insurance by a huge amount. She does seem to be a lovely dog but I do feel uneasy about it all.

MissAdventure Tue 06-Feb-24 16:19:24

Rescues regularly get influxes of the "latest" dogs, when the novelty wears off, and people come to their senses and realise they shouldnt have got them.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 06-Feb-24 16:22:45

It’s a shame that she is by law destined to live her life in kennels MayBee. It would perhaps be kinder to put her to sleep as she can never be rehomed.

MissAdventure Tue 06-Feb-24 16:24:20

Not much of a life, is it?
Poor thing.
It really, really pees me off!

Very sadly I agree sad

My friend is a dog walker. She was telling me that her insurance would not cover her to walk any XL Bullies (not that she has any on her books in any case).

I think they’re planning to rehome her.

It rather confirms the impression I got of him as being as thick as two short planks.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 06-Feb-24 16:48:59

I didn’t think that was allowed.

Me too. A life in kennels, no matter how good they are, is no life at all. Rather like being in prison but with kind guards.

I’ve just checked and they seem to be planning for her to live in the kennels permanently.Their long term inmates do lead a pretty good life, walks on the beach etc. It’s going to cost a lot of money which could be helping a lot more dogs over the years. They do put a lot of time and effort into helping quite serious cases of neglect and do a wonderful job but I can’t help but feel that this will divide opinion.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 06-Feb-24 17:37:17

It’s such a shame to see any dog living out their life in kennels though. When the staff go off duty that’s it apart from perhaps a welfare check. My last shepherd had been in kennels for a long time before we came along, through no fault of her own. The staff loved her but she didn’t - couldn’t - have the human company and the comfort and freedom she would have in a home. It was our privilege to be able to give her that and she repaid it more than I can say. A life in kennels is not a life, it’s an existence.

I think the new law says that XL bullies cannot be rehomed Cossy

XL bullies can’t be re-homed. Life in kennels no matter how good, is stressful for dogs. Stressed dogs aren’t happy.

We know nothing about the relationship between the father and son. No doubt police made a referral to Children’s Services, resulting in a formal assessment of this boy’s needs and how best they can be met. This boy has faced terrible bereavements, his mum 2 years ago and now seeing his maternal grandmother killed by the dogs he lived with. I don’t know what offence his dad has been charged with but he’s been given bail. It may be the child needs not to return to his home with dad because of what he witnessed there. He needs to be within his family. Poor lad

I do know someone, very close to here, whose daughters partner was killed by the daughters dog.

They took the dog, did blood tests to see if actually had pitbull genes, and put it to sleep as soon as they found out it did.

Iam64 Tue 06-Feb-24 20:49:43

I don’t see how this man can avoid prison.

Maybe Germanshepherdsmum can help. Tests are ongoing to determine if one or both of these dogs are a banned breed. XL/pit bull, one looks like a bull dog, the other more Rottweiler. I understand he claims the litter was ‘an accident’. If the bitch is an xl, the pups will be pts.

Even if he wasn’t in the house, he was in charge of two dogs that were out of control and killed someone in his home, someone he invited in. My understanding is that would lead to a manslaughter charge. So far as I can see, he hasn’t yet bern charged with anything but I expect he will be

petra Tue 06-Feb-24 20:52:19

How could any sane person want these 2.

Iam64 Tue 06-Feb-24 20:53:40

I can’t answer that one petra - I’m a definite dog addict but these types would put a stop to my addiction

And here we go again, another XL Bully attack and this time two babies. This just has to stop.
Quote from DM:
A mother says her two children 'are lucky to be alive' after an unmuzzled XL Bully launched an 'unprovoked' attack on them in Battersea Park. The dog attacked the women and her children, aged one and two, as they entered the playground at Latchmere Recreation Ground, south London on Friday, February 2. The woman - who wished to remain anonymous - claims the unleashed XL Bully 'launched itself on the pram' carrying her one-year-old daughter, tipping it over and biting the child.
Here's the story:

That is just your worst nightmare. I would have been deeply traumatised if I had been with my children or grandchildren. The poor mother is scared to go out now.

Did I read it correctly in that 40,000 have been given exemptions? So that men’s there are 40,000 + in the country?

OldFrill Wed 07-Feb-24 00:39:55

Yes, and possibly 15,000 have not applied

MayBee70 Wed 07-Feb-24 01:34:21

And they’re the ones we’ve got to worry about…
