It’s just been on the news that Charles has cancer and is not taking any duties for now

veejay Mon 05-Feb-24 19:43:17

I think King Charles has done the right thing, and I really hope he recovers well from it whatever the cancer turns out to be
I gather Harry is coming to see his father now, such a hypocrite
A bit late in my opinion

Cossy Mon 05-Feb-24 19:52:40

Coolcoco Are you still here ?? 😂😂😂😂😂

On a less serious note, whilst I wish the King a very swift and full recovery, it is sad that we do still have cancers and life ending conditions still missed til it’s too late, especially those whose lives have been taken far too soon.

My heart goes out to anyone, especially our great gransnetters, who may have lost a daughter/sister/brother/son because their initial diagnosis’ were missed. RIP all of them flowers

Having said that, I still have the utmost respect for our NHS, which while it has failed some, has saved many. smile

Well dammed if he does damned if he doesn’t eh Veejay
He’s right to come to his Dad and I’m sure Charles will have open arms to him

I wish Charles well. Very difficult having a cancer diagnosis that is so public.

dragonfly46 Mon 05-Feb-24 20:01:53

I am hoping this will bring the family back together. I also hope the treatment is not taxing and is successful. As a surviving cancer patient I know how the diagnosis affects you and the whole family.

valdavi Mon 05-Feb-24 20:05:02

I wish him all the best. As he was diagnosed before he had any symtoms he has the best chance of a cure, and that will be such a positive message if he is, as I'm optimistic he will be, still ruling in 20 years' time.

This open approach is far more dignified than past practices; was it King George Vth where it was announced "the King's life is drawing peacefully to a close" when he had in fact died hours earlier, but the Press weren't ready so they bluffed it? Such a charade.

I'm glad Harry is coming over to see him, can't imagine why people would criticize that.

Nanatoone Mon 05-Feb-24 20:06:43

I have no idea what ails the King and it is his private business of course. I wish him well and am glad he’s receiving treatment right away. None of us actually know how long he has waited for diagnosis and treatment as it takes time to develop the various tests and get to a diagnosis. With my hubby (different cancer) it took from early October until the day before Xmas eve to get the full diagnosis. Tests, biopsies, MRI, nuclear scan etc etc. it’s the reality for many. I always assumed diagnosis was a more or less instant thing, it isn’t. Anyway, good luck King Charles.

Cossy Mon 05-Feb-24 20:17:14

Veejay Why is Harry “such a hypocrite”? He’s clearly an angry and quite unstable man but always made it clear he loved his grandparents and parents, I hope this acts as a catalyst for all of them to heal! Estranged families can be so awful

rafichagran Mon 05-Feb-24 20:31:04

Can we leave Harry out of this, it seems to me he is a son making the effort to see his Father has had some bad health news.

Iam64 Mon 05-Feb-24 20:32:40

I admire the King for being open about the prostate treatment and now for saying he is being treated for an unnamed cancer. He’s a new type of monarch. I hope the treatment isn’t too gruelling and is effective. Many of us here have experienced cancer in our families. Awful disease who ever yiu are.

Harry - this surely isn’t the time to snipe. I read the King told his children and siblings personally. It’s reported that Harry will travel to the UK to see his father. Can’t we all wish them well.

Anniebach Mon 05-Feb-24 20:38:57

What concerns me, only Harry has made an announcement re his fathers illness

Namsnanny Mon 05-Feb-24 20:42:55

Yes Iam64 I agree with you, in regards to wishing them all well, Harry included.

But, he is untrustworthy, this could well end up being all about him, book, podcast, etc?

I like many have have been in this situation a couple of times and each time it brought up different emotions in different members of my family. Made it more stressful trying to calm and cope with it all.

I suppose I'm projecting onto KC all the feelings I went through.
He will have the best of love and care I'm sure.

Why is that important do you think?

Anniebach Mon 05-Feb-24 20:44:48

Iam voicing concerns isn’t sniping

Urmstongran Mon 05-Feb-24 20:45:54

And my heart goes out to Queen Camilla. I know how she feels - as do so many of us on here. The anxiety, the hope, the pit in the stomach. It will sadly be her silent and constant companion now.

eazybee Mon 05-Feb-24 20:46:51

I was sorry to hear this news, as King Charles has made a good start to his reign, taking his role seriously whilst appearing to enjoy it.

fancythat Mon 05-Feb-24 20:47:11

I feel shocked. I am certainly no fan, but even so.

Anniebach Mon 05-Feb-24 20:48:46

Namsnanny when the Queen died the family went to Balmoral, Harry told the world what he said to his Grandmother, surely private, and how the family didn’t talk to
him about his problems, they were grieving

JaneJudge Mon 05-Feb-24 20:48:57

I agree with you Ism64 ❤️

icanhandthemback Mon 05-Feb-24 20:49:17

I am far from a fan of the King but I do wish him well on his cancer journey. I don't think it is particularly brave to share the news, maybe because I am an oversharer, but if it helps people to seek help that is a good thing. Unfortunately, I suspect most will have to see their GP's (if they can) before they get taken seriously and as Charles hadn't had symptoms, he has just been very lucky that he was having other treatment which picked this up.
My son had the rest of his cancerous tissue removed (again) and I hope his treatment path will be as good as Charles'.

MissAdventure Mon 05-Feb-24 20:50:53

It's always good for people in the public eye to share a cancer diagnosis.
It usually spurs people on to get their own issues checked out.
Hope he does well.

Marydoll Mon 05-Feb-24 20:56:37

I am sorry to hear about his diagnosis.
If just one reluctant person gets checked out because he has been open, then I think he did the right thing by going public.

Deedaa Mon 05-Feb-24 20:58:46

I feel sorry for William. Bang go his plans to cut back while Catherine recuperates and, if it all goes horribly wrong, he's got the crown looming over him.

Annie, do you really think this is an appropriate time to stir up complaints about Harry? It is most inappropriate in my opinion.

Anniebach Mon 05-Feb-24 21:02:34

GSM I did not speak complaint, I care about the King and hope he doesn’t have any further hurt from someone close to him
