My statement waas not a shrug of the shoulders. I abhor all racism and religious prejudice, but too often crying down one kind of religious racism is a cover for justifying another. Decrying Islamophobia as a cover for anti-semitism and the reverse.

However, what cannot be denied is that since 7th October we have seen many demonstrations of various kinds by those supporting Hamas and justifying their behaviour and the majority of people on those marches have been Muslims. I am neither criticising not supporting any group by saying that. It is a simple fact.

I know the majority of Muslims have not been involved and cannot be held responsible for the acts of a minority, but like it or not these actions by the minority have stirred up the minority in the broader community who are anti-islamic and given, to them, a justification for anti islamic rhetoric.

It is not helped when people in government, local or national, are scared to speak up themselves to condemn prejudice on all sides because it might cost them votes.

I think a more accurate description of London at the moment is that pro Palestine supporters are everywhere. Some of which are intimidating.

The Amy Winehouse statue in Camden had a Palestinian flag stuck over her Star of David necklace this week.

As a family we have always popped to London at the weekend, wouldn’t dream of it now.

is it any worse than anti-semitism?

One of our main parties is anti-semitic, the other is Islamophobic and all parties seem to have it in for Christians.
When you have members of parliament claiming that London is being taken over by islamists and rhetoric from a former disgraced Home Secretary claiming that British institutions are now overtaken by islamists - then I would say yes it is something to be very concerned about. Change the word Islamist for Jew and we are right back in Nazi Germany.

I will not get into the ridiculous game of one evil form of prejudice is worse than another.

I completely agree, there’s no room in our fine country for any type of discrimination from the people elected to representative us! We all have private thoughts and opinions and biased prejudices, bower the sooner we realise and accept that there are good and bad in all races/creeds/colours/religions.

My Irish husband arriving here as a child in the early 60’s experienced terrible discrimination, easily remedied by losing his Irish accent, not so easy when you’re a person of colour. No discrimination, of any kind, for any reason is acceptable, in exactly the same way as no act of terrorist actions are acceptable. “Whataboutery” doesn’t make things acceptable idea!

Attacks on MPs are completely unacceptable. MPs who use inflammatory racist language are also completely unacceptable. This thread shouldn’t turn into a discussion about party politics, any MP who makes racist comments should be suspended. These are our representatives for goodness sake, how do they think the risk of attacks on themselves and others will be reduced by wading in with ill informed comments on a public stage?

I live in a rather boring suburb of mock Tudor houses.
It's considered to be respectable even posh .
I have lots of friends , who are every creed and colour and I'm horrified by the anti semitic and islamaphobia comments , which are frequently expressed .

I've been asked if I'm selling my house, because my neighbours are terrified that someone who is a different from them might move in .

I was appalled that the slogan was played on loop projected onto The Elizabeth Tower during the debacle on Wednesday night (From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free)

I was also appalled when Rachel Reeves was harassed by a Palestinian supporting group of women.

MP’s are worried for their safety along with the safety of their families.

This is more worrying than to me.

I agree with Granny Gravy. I would reiterate that attacks on any community are an awful state of affair, it's not an either or situation, I do think the Jewish community feel so much more vulnerable these days, their community is relatively small and their history is such, more than any other demographic, blame is laid at their doorstep for practically everything.

Turning to. MPs from both sides of the house have been open to intimidation, agitators turning up mob handed at individual MPs houses is an infringement of their privacy and safety. The Police have been so slow to act on these occasions, have they not forgotten two MPs have been murdered in recent years.

Unfortunately it is the case that acts of terrorism are carried out in this country in the name of Islam.

Many of my West Indian , African , Afghani and Turkish and Turkish Cypriot friends have suffered racial abuse .

One family has has a beautiful new car vandalised .
People openly steal from their shop .
And they've had no help nor sympathy from the Police .

I live in Essex, nearby we have growing groups of Orthodox Jews, quiet families going about their business. We have a vast diverse demographic. Mist problems here with hate crime are as a result small far right leaning white Brits! Swastikas have appeared, mosques have been graffitied, both Muslims and Jews, along with our Eastern European communities have been targeted. It’s a sad inditement of some of our citizens.

We regularly visit London, we both used to commute to London, the most frightening times for us in London was when the IRA were active in the late 70’s/early 80’s, buildings and stations we used were targeted and it was horrendous.

We know that growstuff and we all know Muslims who would never behave like that. However too many do behave that way since 7/10.

There is some truth in maybe some OTT utterances by Conservative MP’s and others about London.The reason Lindsey Hoyle gave about allowing Labour their amendment was for that very reason, that Labour MP’s were being targeted and harassed by their muslim constituents about the situation in Gaza, and the demo outside Parliament when the House was voting was to add extra pressure on the way MP’s voted.
An absolute disgrace.

In my view, Suella Braverman and Lee Anderson are telling the truth and as usual, anyone telling the truth is lambasted. The pro-Palestinian marches are abhorrent. I really fear for my grandchildren's future the way this country is out of control on so many levels. Our Democracy is hanging by a thread. It is a disgrace the double standards that are being allowed.

Neither will our MPS making inflammatory statements. This is a time for people to uphold the highest standards, not the lowest.

All very well making saintly comments, but people including MP’s who are still people!have families that they are worried about.We cannot allow mob rule to influence voting.I agree that language around this has to be careful but not so careful as to hide the truth. Some things shouldn’t Be brushed under the carpet.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable to feel for both empathy for the Palestinians and horror for the kidnapped Israelis, and to disagree with the horror of Hammas and the relentless attacks by the Israeli govt, both sides are wrong here, that doesn’t make a me a supporter of terrorism or a hater of Jews. I’d love to see a complete ceasefire, but like everyone else, fear this would be used for Hammas to regroup. This awful situation has gone on for far too many years and I just don’t know how it will ever be resolved, historically there’s wrongs in both sides, not that this fact ever excuses Hammas actions.

Let’s not forget this poor man and his family. Are there any Muslim teachers hiding in fear of their lives?

I think there's a certain amount of evidence to support that opinion Annie. although I do think that racism also feeds into Muslim attacks, young women having had their scarves pulled off by yobbos for example. However, it's no coincidence they increase in the aftermath of bomb attacks. Of course that isn't fair to conflate the actions of a few with the wider Muslim community. I also perceive a lot of anger came to the fore in the treatment of the young girls who were abused in the grooming scandals, not only for the pejorative way white female children were described by the abusers but shamefully also by the Police. Into that toxic mix we find perpetrators have an army of lawyers fighting deportation of those who were convicted in such crimes. None of this bodes well for cohesive relationships within mixed communities when the abusers are still walking amongst the abused.

As others have identified there are racists on both sides of the political divide, possibly once a preserve of the far right, the extreme left are equally culpable of whipping up hatred although they would have us believe they are merely fighting the good fight.

That’s true. However Politicians in elected positions should never display rascism, and if they do they should be sanctioned immediately. Who their rascism is against is irrelevant.
