Changed my mind about voting for Reform uk

I had been planning to vote for Richard Tice's party but, now that I've read their manifesto, I've changed my mind. They support hunting, which I deplore. Killing animals for pleasure is morally wrong and I will not vote for a party which supports it.

Agree MOnica as a member of the Labour Party I didn’t vote
Labour in the last election as many didn’t because we couldn’t vote for Corbyn

I voted labour because I understood how disastrous Brexit and Johnson with his past history would be - and so it proved.

Most previous labour voters who voted Tory - many for the first time in their lives largely did so because of brexit as well as rejecting Cameron’s austerity.

The party leaders debate on Brexit, Corbyn refused to take
part and in a separate tv discussion he criticised Brexit

I voted Labour despite my dislike and mistrust of Corbyn. Sadly, our excellent MP lost to a conservative- 400 majority.

I am absolutely aware of that.

I also took into account a man with a history of lying, corruption and apparently a moral vacuum. .

As against a man of evasion, anti-semitism and explicit support for terrorist groups , some of whom had murdered British soldiers and British citizens.

Ah well, we all make our choices.

Yes so I chose not to vote for either

As I said imo my vote has been entirely vindicated.

Corbyn would never have cut it as Prime Minister, he doesn’t have the necessary skills. I’m not sure in retrospect though that his personal views were any more extreme than those of some of the Tory PMs, cabinet ministers, or certainly than Farage.
One thing the last few years have taught me is that it was Hobson’s choice in 2017 and 2019.

Yes I do agree, but I was so worried about what would happen post Brexit and with Johnson in charge, I made what I considered the best of a poor choice.

Casdon Sat 23-Mar-24 12:23:14

I actually voted Lib Dem, who had more chance of being elected here than Labour, I felt one of Corbyn’s weaknesses was his ambivalence about many issues, including Brexit. I’m very glad now Labour has turned the corner - I noticed on the election poll tracker that the lead over the Tories is creeping up now, 22% today.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-Mar-24 12:26:25

My PM is Peter Kylie - a good constituent mp and certainly not a Corbyn supporter.

Voting for other than Labour would have been a completely wasted vote.

The problem with Labour is that it is always turning corners - and one is never sure which direction the next one will be.

Casdon Sat 23-Mar-24 13:29:47

We know which corner it won’t be now though Monica. I don’t think the Tories can say the same, and I’m not sure where the Lib Dem’s are going.

I doubt Jones has much influence on the voters (other than among a slice of Guardianistas). And I doubt Labour under Starmer will go Left or that Starmer faces any risk of being replaced once they are in power. PMs are far more secure than the media tend to think. All parties are compromises, even Reform, and one has to accept that. Not voting for a party because of one policy seems to avoid the compromise reality. Plenty of people voted for Labour in past times even though it supported the nuclear deterrent just as plenty voted for the Tories despite their industrial policy under Mrs Thatcher.

HousePlantQueen Sat 23-Mar-24 15:18:36

Owen Jones believes his own publicity, but I don't think he is the big consideration that he likes to think he is. I just see a rather silly petulant boy when he is on TV.

Do we? never under estimate Labour's ability to shoot itself in the foot!

The Conservatives are running right so fast they are no longer worth taking any notice of. No one in their senses could bring themselves to vote for them, well OK a few camp follower running with them.

As for the LibDems, sigh,

I had no idea about that, I must inform other members of my family that have been talking of voting for them!

Pollypie Sun 26-May-24 11:20:12

Same here. I have even contacted them regarding this, one candidate didn’t even realise it was in their policy paper and Richard Tice sent me a generic reply thanking me for my feedback. I told them both that I know there are more pressing things going on, but this is a huge thing for me and like-minded friends. They can not rely on our votes

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-May-24 13:01:21

Well they will clearly appeal to all the nastiest racists in the U.K., after listening to Farage spew his vile opinions about every Muslim in the U.K. this morning.

MayBee70 Sun 26-May-24 13:39:57

Can anyone explain to me why, especially as he isn’t even standing for election, he is always being interviewed on tv?

God knows, but after this morning anyone who interviews him again needs their heads examined.

I think he has possibly confused what the non-Labour party member supporter will vote for with what left wing party members want.

I think a lot of the Conservative vote in the last election had more to do with ordinary Labour voters (not party members) being concerned by the left wing policies that would come with Corbyn, than them actively supporting Conservative policies. Now the Labour party has swung back towards the centre, the voters will return to them, regardless of whether the Conservatives have been good bad or indifferent in government.

What was particularly “left wing” about Corbyn’s policies as set out in the manifesto 2019. Here’s a reminder (in brief)
1. Increase Health Budget
2. Hold a Second Referendum on Brexit
3. Raise minimum wage
4. Stop pension age rises
5. Introduce a national care service
6. Bring forward net zero target.
7. Stop universal credit. Reform benefit system
8. Nationalise Key Industries
9. Abolish private schools’ charitable status
10. Free bus travel for under 25s
11. EU Nationals right to remain
12. Build 100,000 council houses a year

Socialist policies which we could do with now. Taxing wealth would be another useful step forward.

Anyone who even contemplates voting Reform need to do at least some research! It is a Company. God help us all.

Indeed. He has, I believe, been on QT more times than Caroline Lucas MP, ex leader of the Green Party.
