Talk Tv reported that Liz Truss has said that the World was safer when Donald Trump was President.. - am very world weary at the moment shock

I don't understand why she's given the oxygen if publicity.

Called freedom of speech, or would you ban her from speaking.

I think most people, when they use that phrase - are not suggesting that anyone should actually be banned from speaking, but rather wondering why so much media attention is focused on them.

I still don't quite understand what she is determined to save the West from....

From Rifkind's piece:

complaining pricelessly that “part of the problem we faced was a distinct shortage of expert voices supporting our agenda”.

I can understand why she feels sore on this point. After all there was a distinct shortage of expert economists supporting the Leave campaign but it didn't stop us getting Brexit...

I still don't quite understand what she is determined to save the West from....

Well, possibly from people like you MaizieD 🤣🤣

In fact, that's a good question - I hope that, during any forthcoming interviews, she is asked it.

I have watched and listened to her speeches, as one does, and find that after some minutes I'm totally distracted from what she is actually saying by her style of delivery which, to me, appears so rehearsed.

If you watch her speeches during her early years she performs - as someone noted in the comments under one of her videos - like a child learning to read. Every time she finishes a statement she’s automatically looking for praise. A methodology that hasn't changed as she's matured. And her voice has that slightly high grating tone to it that sets my teeth on edge.

The opening up of the pork markets in Beijing bit still makes me cringe - mostly because of the contrast between her triumphant self-congratulation and the lack-lustre response from the audience.

I'm not surprised she's endorsing Trump, both of them see themselves as liberators against a fabricated body of government agencies who are allegedly manipulating and controlling government policies... Lefties to a man!

Dickens I have no problem with her speaking. The publicity from the media is what I was complaining about. No need to film her or write up her appearances. Her book PR company has done a good job promoting her all over the place

... that is what I assumed you meant which is why I made my comment to Freya5 who appears to believe you might want to censor Truss and prevent her from speaking.

I am also puzzled by the media focus on her - but I suppose her book and endorsement of Trump is 'topical' news which will garner considerable interest and comment - though maybe not quite in the vein she might hope...

It'll be an expensive PR company paid for by her publisher who is creating all the opportunities for her to be picked up by the media. We don't have to listen, watch or reach about her of course.

Read not reach

How many months before the boo is pulped. I can't believe that many people will want to buy it. Perhaps if Amazon offers it at 99p.

book not boo

Not even for 99p, it would still be a waste of money.

"According to Joe Oliver, Truss has been paid an advance of just £1,512 from Biteback and a mere £6,160 by Regnery Publishing"

That's what her publishers think of her, tbh I wouldn't have paid her in washers!

I've seen a picture on twitter this morning of a bookshop shelf for 'Fantasy and Sci-Fi with Truss's book prominently displayed
(Yes, of course, it might have been faked. But it's witty...)

I know this expression is extremely un PC in this day and age but Liz Truss is definitely not the full ticket.

I agree.

foxie48 Mon 22-Apr-24 11:26:33

I've recently spent some time with my erudite economist BIL. Having discussed Trussenomics we debated if we should get as many of our friends etc as we could to join the Conservative party to ensure someone like Truss never gets to be party leader again. Although I suspect he votes Tory he said he couldn't think of anyone he would vote for ATM which I found very worrying!

Yesterday she was talking about her next book!

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 22-Apr-24 14:20:39

Heaven help us. Will she never go away?
