Hmm.
Standing as a Reform MP after all?
Emigrating to America to canvass for Trump?
Joining the Tory party?
None of the above?

I shall tune in out of curiosity.

I know DiamondLily see upthread.

What is wrong with 🇬🇧 being displayed? Palestinian flags are all over central London. No one bats an eyelid.

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jun-24 15:55:02

Defections to Reform apparently over next few days. If I were a one term Red Wall Tory, I'd be seriously considering it.

Delivering on promises Whitewave.
Not taking us for fools.
Reassuring us it’s okay to be patriotic. It’s not a dirty word.
Listening to the voters who have felt betrayed (Brexit, not enacted by a long chalk but we know the Civil Servants don’t want it so we’re duplicitous whenever possible).
Lawless London (and a City near you, no doubt).
Raising of the Personal Allowance instead of this fiscal drag.
I could bore you by getting on my soap box but I’ll spare you (all).
🤣

Hey - I heard it was a big crowd in Clacton and thought it was a bit of click bait exaggeration - but then saw the clip. Incredible!

Blimey! Straight out of Trumps box, - I did think you would come up with something more sensible.

Oh well - so be it.

Words fail me so I’ll leave Nige to it with his followers, who will be mighty disappointed.

At least a vote for Reform will ensure a Labour win in Urmstongran's constituency. hmm

What's the point of it? Are you a car number plate?

Well, I’m not a flag waver, or, only during football, but, no, I’ve got no problem with any flag being waved, if it keeps the wavers happy. I live on the London borders, so nothing new. 🤷‍♀️

I’ll be voting on the economy, NHS etc - anything else isn’t as important to me.

But, each to their own. If anyone thinks Farage is the answer, then wonderful, even though I think he’s a self serving opportunist, straight out of the Trump/Johnson playbook.

UKIP won Clacton in 2015.

I don't think they did, their seat was by defection, not election. Douglas Carswell

Reform:

On May 30, the party announced plans to introduce a migrant tax that would force employers to pay a higher National Insurance (NI) rate on foreign workers.

Writing in The Telegraph, Mr Tice pledged a 20 per cent National Insurance rate for every foreign worker in comparison to the current 13.8 per cent for domestic British workers.

The party has also vowed to abolish the Government’s flagship net zero targets, claiming that the green push is doing more damage to the British economy than anything else.

Well out of Sunak, Starmer and Farage, Farage has certainly got the charisma (think Brexit also the Brexit Party gained the most MEPs) OK the left leaning Grans on here don't like/hate him but in the real world he's very popular and as the new Leader of Reform he will be able to do the TV debates, his supporters have been begging him to come back on the forums. He might be marmite but plenty love marmite me included. Richard Tice although I liked him never had the same presence and Nigel Farage is a household name everyone has heard of him.

I think you will find that many of the 'right leaning Grans' such as GSM loathe him. A chancer is a chancer, irrespective of his politics.

Sorry to disappoint you WhiteWave. I can only do my best and say what I feel.

Farage is right: we need a rebellion against the self righteous, smug establishment. He said Labour are going to win. Of course they are. But we need an opposition to hold their feet to the fire!

I completely agree

That has decided me, I will be voting reform. We need change and we need a charismatic leader who will stand up for Great Britain

Can you explain to me which of their policies have led to your decision?

Maybe allowing the reintroduction of hunting with hounds?

Katie590 Tue 04-Jun-24 16:19:41

Maybe allowing the reintroduction of hunting with hounds?

That would be a vote winner out in the sticks.

Wyllow3 Tue 04-Jun-24 16:19:47

"The party has also vowed to abolish the Government’s flagship net zero targets, claiming that the green push is doing more damage to the British economy than anything else."

And this is good A party of climate change denying? Good for our future generations?

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 04-Jun-24 16:24:14

I despair. However they won’t get into power. They are just a distraction. If only more people would read what they really stand for. And Katie, the legalising of hunting would not be such a vote winner as you might think.

Urms, I completely accept your right to vote for Reform, but please stop calling those of us who loathe Farage and his 'party' unpatriotic. You did the same post Brexit referendum, and it is not only incorrect and tedious, it is also offensive.

Curtaintwitcher Tue 04-Jun-24 16:28:00

All of the comments on here show very clearly one of the big problems with our politics.....personality!! It shouldn't be about the person, it should be about their politics. 'I'm not going to vote for him because I don't like him'....so typical of so many people.
I don't like Farage and I wouldn't vote for him, not because I don't like him but because I think he works better as a campaigner. He's very articulate and good at speeches. However, being an MP would mean commitment to the people of Clacton. I think he needs to be free to continue fighting for this country.

Agree with all of that. Especially the patriotic bit.
Every other country is allowed, but not us? hmm

Tories took far too long about the trans stuff. Harm already done.
Defence - Labour took too long on that. Tories decreased it.
Morals? Rememeber them? Not sure Reform can deliver anything, but I can but wish.

I have other wishes, but like Urms I wont bore.
Prob about another 20 wishes actually.

Following on from what I wrote, I think people have forgotten what we "could" have. Not that everyone would want all of it.

I just said it’s good to feel it’s permissible to be so.

Well, I guess everyone has the view on all of the leaders.

But, it’s all a bit irrelevant. If the polls are right, Labour will swan in, if they’re wrong, the Tories might win.

I don’t know, as I haven’t got a crystal ball.

But, I can guarantee that Reform/the LDs/Greens etc won’t be anywhere much, and, as such, are not really worth worrying about.🙄

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jun-24 16:56:47

Again DiamondLily (love the user name btw!) the papers are saying this turbo boost to Reform is playing out at 20% in some polls. Some 1 in 10 voters = several seats in the HoC.

Yes it will be a landslide majority for Labour, no doubt about that.

But still all this has suddenly made the GE much more interesting. It was so lacklustre and boring before NF announced he was throwing his hat in the ring!

Galaxy Tue 04-Jun-24 16:57:25

It's only irrelevant if you are looking short term. If you are looking at 2029 then its quite possibly relevant. But again I am sure it will all be a complete surprise if reform become the opposition in a few years time.

Casdon Tue 04-Jun-24 16:58:24

I have only one burning question in my mind about Farage today. I don’t support throwing things at anybody, but was the choice of milkshake flavour deliberate?
