Hmm.
Standing as a Reform MP after all?
Emigrating to America to canvass for Trump?
Joining the Tory party?
None of the above?

I shall tune in out of curiosity.

Yes, in the end a compromise was brokered.

By the way, it's worth noting that the only other European nations not signed up to the ECHR are Belarus, and Russia

Great company.....

It would be an utter catastrophe to pull out and only a very stupid, short sighted person/group would even begin to suggest this.

I completely agree.. absolute madness.. but all it needs is one letter from the PM.. let's hope good sense prevails

I for one like Nigel, he speaks the truth- other leaders, absolutely no charisma or backbone- Rishi just clutching at straws.. telling us what he thinks he wants us to hear! Don’t get me started on Stamer, he’s not much better. . think they are both out of touch with the state of the NHS. Labour will win, hands down, so will vote reform! Don’t believe the mainstream media!

Interesting to think Starmer is out of touch with the NHS given his mother worked within it for many years and his wife still does.

Just out of interest, what “truth” is good ole Nige speaking?

^Farage - and I have to presume Reform - want to get out of the ECHR.^

That is what I was thinking to write yesterday. But wasnt sure of my facts. And then something to do with the Dublin Agreement would come into play. Again, dont know enough facts.

I believe Sunak referred to leaving the ECHR during the debate but it was overshadowed by the £2,000 lie.

BevSec Thu 06-Jun-24 12:26:14

Mt61 absolutely agree with you! They are only 2 points behind the Tories in the polls apparently. Shows how much support Nigel has, just not on here!

Sunak has stated in the past his full support for the ECHR, his threat to leave this is to pacify the right wing. He knows that it will never happen.

I copied this from Facebook…
‘Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
This was Churchill’s hope - that a united Europe could prevent the horrors of the Second World War and the Holocaust from ever being repeated.
Central to this was a human rights charter, which became the European Convention on Human Rights.
Remember this, when Sunak threatens to withdraw from the ECHR.’

nanna8 Thu 06-Jun-24 12:44:59

I don’t like Nige but he is the best speaker by a country mile. I think he will attract a lot of disenchanted ex Conservatives who wouldn’t vote Labour in a fit. He seems very energetic and has a few policies. He knows Labour will be elected but his plan is to work on the election after this one and put himself forward as a potential PM. Aarrggh. What a mess.

I'm a member of the European Movement UK and there was a recent Zoom call with Dominic Grieve, Jessica Simor KC, (she was the barrister who took the case re climate change against Switzerland recently) and Andrew Cutting who works in Strasbourg.. they were discussing how Richard Tice and Suella Braverman are trying to leave the ECHR and the disastrous consequences if it happens. They explained exactly how the court was set up and how it functions. It can be seen on Youtube called 75th Anniversary Film European Movement UK.. I highly recommend watching it..

Disturbing article re Farage in The Times to-day;

Migration is at an all time high- loads wandering around our lovely village up north- to say they are landing down south. My niece lives in a posh area of the Midlands & didn’t even know the hotel near by ( in its own grounds was full of migrants) farage brought that to our attention! She went digging & found out he was telling the truth!

Wyllow3 Thu 06-Jun-24 13:08:09

I hope the article is right in that it says many of the new Conservatives elected reflect a characteristic of the British people for moderation not extremes. Interesting parallels between Corbyn/Labour Party 2019 and current situation on the right.
What a mess indeed.

thank you for posts on the ECHR above - very moving, Churchill's "never again".

If she had to go digging, why the fuss?

Nobody will say. They'd have to work damn hard to formulate an answer that wouldn't be picked up by the mods.

I suppose shop lifting is ahandy smoke screen.

Because she didn’t believe me, so had to look for herself

Mt61 Thu 06-Jun-24 13:15:19

You can bet if his wife or mother needed urgent care he would pay privately for that treatment, he’s not going to be waiting years for treatment! & anyone that doesn’t believe that are deluding themselves

What you can be pretty sure of is that the Home Office isn't paying the hotel's normal accommodation rates, they'll be paying much less, and that the asylum seekers won't have any access to most of the facilities the hotel has. They won't be experiencing 5 star treatment and facilities (or whatever star rating the place might have). Of course, Farage won't be telling you that bit...

And the hotel owner must be finding government payment more profitable than normal hotel business otherwise they wouldn't be doing it.

His mother died in 2015 Mt61.

I suggest you head over to the thread ‘Following the Polls’ to follow and participate in the discussion about polls, because it’s clear that the outcome of one poll is pretty meaningless, it’s the cumulative effect of lots of polls by different pollsters using different methodologies which tells us what the mood of the country is.

I’m not entirely sure what your point is? We all know migration, both entering illegally and coming legally, is at an all time high, we don’t need Nige to point it out to us.

And I’m pretty sure he’s divorced now?

Farage wants the Navy to push the boats back.

why not possible

www.navylookout.com/why-its-not-the-royal-navys-job-to-stop-migrant-boats/

He also has just ditched Reform policy on sending migrants abroad to Brit territories but. "give me 12 hours to consider"

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/nigel-farage-reform-uk-immigration-general-election-b2556227.html

Wyllow3 Thu 06-Jun-24 13:37:35

In other words, what policy does Reform actually have on reducing migrants, apart from condemning it loudly - its not as if anyone is happy with the current situation in so many ways but at least have a policy.

zakouma66 Thu 06-Jun-24 13:53:16

Please can people try to comprehend, the people seeking asylum/ refugees who are housed in these hotels are not" living it up"

Somebody in government decided ( for whatever reason) that this would be a good idea. They then employed a multi billion company called SERCO to over see the process. Hotel owners saw the pound signs and signed up.

Its big, big business and big money.

There are all sorts of human right abuses going on in these places. Children denied an education " games " of spin a bottle, the winning child finds out where he/ she will be placed.
Children going missing, whole families disappearing overnight.
Suicides are hushed up, self harm is rife.Precious items stolen from residents. Residents roughed up by staff. Mind games, residents told to pack a bag and given a post code. Families dumped by the side of the road. Families housed in squats full of drug paraphanalia and used condoms.

I know there are GN members who like facts and accurate information and I am quite able to provide this if it helps.
