Seems Farage has an announcement to make at 4pm today.

Hmm.
Standing as a Reform MP after all?
Emigrating to America to canvass for Trump?
Joining the Tory party?
None of the above?

I shall tune in out of curiosity.

Why does the British news media continue to give Farage such an outsized platform? Farage a fringe politician whose disruptive, xenophobic views have done nothing but sow division and fear, played a key role in the disastrous Brexit decision. His policies have damaged the UK's global standing and economy. Yet, he is paraded in the media as though he represents a significant or beneficial force in British politics. It’s high time to stop amplifying his harmful rhetoric and instead focus on voices that genuinely aim to unite and improve our country. Maybe the campaign has been boring, but surely a bit of boring is needed in politics right now after several years of “ excitement”. Farage is an odious creep , who reminds me of a dodgy car salesman with his fake tan and bad teeth. He just couldn’t bear to miss out on more publicity now that the even more orange one has been convicted and can do without his ministrations .

It’s all about Farage not Reform, they probably won’t get any seats in Westminster but will get a lot of media attention and take a lot of votes from Tories. My view is “thank god we don’t have PR”, Farage having power would be a nightmare.

Allsorts Tue 04-Jun-24 07:24:54

If it wasn’t for Farage we wouldn't have had Brexit, so don’t under estimate him. Do understand those who don’t believe in democratic votes counting wish it hadn’t happened, but it’s the only way.

Galaxy Tue 04-Jun-24 07:27:36

Is he both now? A fringe politician of no importance but also a key player in one of the most important votes in this country's recent history.

Pittcity Tue 04-Jun-24 07:32:04

He seems popular in Clacton according to the BBC news Vox Pop.

There was a 75% turnout there for the Brexit vote with the majority in favour.

The latest government labour data also revealed economic inactivity in Clacton at 46.8% - more than twice the 21.7% UK average

You can see why Farage chose Clacton.

Perhaps a Reform supporter could give me a link to policy outlines on the central areas being discussed atm? so at least I now what they stand for in some detail. NHS? Social Care? Management of the economy? Pro Truss economics?

The only one I did pick up was that they are climate change deniers, they want to abolish net zero.

Best of Luck with that request. Something about a Contract. It looks as if its a power point done by a teenager.

They are about fear, race, division.

There you go, no rudeness from me either.

DiamondLily Tue 04-Jun-24 07:48:21

To be clear, I wouldn’t vote for Reform if they were the only candidates on the ballot - one trick ponies.

But, objectively, I would say that Tice comes across as much more personable, likeable, intelligent and articulate, than Farage ever has.

Yet, he’s been dumped for someone that has failed to win a seat at Westminster on 7/8 occasions.

Strange. 🤷‍♀️

vegansrock Tue 04-Jun-24 07:50:37

I seem to remember when he was in UKIP that he supported relaxed gun control as in the USA, and bringing back smoking in pubs, not sure why he doesn’t push these areas of policy to the fore.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 04-Jun-24 08:06:38

Did anyone see his interview with a BBC chap?

Farage was incredibly rude!

Still if he gets in, Reform intend to scrap the BBC so that should sort it!!

Tice is no better than Farage. The only difference is that one is very good looking and the other one looks like a frog.

Clearly the answer depends on whether or not you believe Farage's unrelenting self promotion.

Greta Tue 04-Jun-24 08:29:53

Farage got very irritated with Mishal Husain this morning. She asked the wrong questions. He suddenly lost his patience and 'charm'.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 04-Jun-24 08:30:24

Well let’s believe this 😄😄

Plan to cut NHS waiting list to zero within 2 years.

See a GP within 3 days

See a consultant within 3 weeks

Operation within 9 weeks

No tax to be paid by front line staff or social care workers.

Hoorah!

No idea how it’s being funded though, but why let such a small matter bother us.

Why not call the party The BNP and have done. Horrid little man. Richard Tice is standing in my area (Boston & Skegness) and there's a lot of support for him on FB. Not from me! Connections to the KKK, I mean, you couldn't make this up!

Thank you for this link, NoraBone. It just confirms what I thought about him. I wish more people would take a look at the link.

Heck, everyone should read this link! Really shocking! and tries to explain away the anti semitism and fascism later.

If it's difficult to see on X, here's the link for it on Facebook: www.facebook.com/pvwlancs/videos/341149145660426/

Mr Farage yesterday vowed to turn the contest into an 'immigration election' –and highlighted the sharp rise in legal and illegal migration in recent years

The Mail.

Well of course he did .

Hate, division and discord is his signature.

What I do think, as is evident this morning, is that Farage is now being exposed to proper scrutiny by the media, and is beginning to look exactly what he is - a boring pub bigot.

The problem is that the more outrageous his policies the more media time he will get and there are a lot of voters will turn out as they did for Brexit.

Oh dear, panicking or not. Have you seen the Henry Jackson poll, heard good mornings Mr madly have to apologise after slandering them and Farage.

Siope Tue 04-Jun-24 09:38:42

I think this becoming ‘an immigration election’ is a real risk, facilitated by Sunak being so scared of losing racist, xenophobic voters (please don’t @ me that managing immigration isn’t racist - I’m not saying it is), and delighted to shift the focus from a myriad of Tory government failures, that he’ll move be it even further up the Tory agenda.

It would be a great pity, because there are many other issues which are more important to much of the electorate , and it’s important to understand how all the parties will address those.

I hope the media, and politicians, are robust in dissecting Reform’s position in broader issues.

Lovetopaint037 Tue 04-Jun-24 09:48:03

Farage (bless his little soft heart) has changed his brilliant mind only because he “couldn’t let millions down”. Well, well, well.
We are being saved by the lying, odious, not to be trusted, nasty bit of work who doesn’t deserve the time of day. I thought Tice wasn’t my cup of tea but in comparison he looks pretty good.

MaizieD Tue 04-Jun-24 10:01:28

I think the only people panicking, Freya are the tories.

Most of the rest of us are just enjoying the show...

fancythat Tue 04-Jun-24 10:21:26

About time the tories panicked. They have been coasting for a long time.

And I hate the way they are bringing up "new" policies now. Why didnt they do them when in office? They have had 14 years. Or however long the time is.

Wyllow3 Tue 04-Jun-24 10:22:18

Just feel sorry for the people of Clacton about to be inundated with campaigners and Vox pop demands.

I'm still telling from the "led by donkeys" video upthread. The spitefulness of the anti-semitism and Hitler and BNP membership.

Leopards don't change their spots.
