So it is Friday and i am ecstatic! My useless MP has gone! We have more women in Parliament than ever. I am not expecting overnight miracles but I am expecting dignity and honesty! My new MP is definitely in that league!

Perhaps raising the lower limit for stamp duty then raising it at the top end. I doubt there’s too much angst over people buying houses over £1m paying a bit more tax. Our whole housing market is a mess and clearly needs sorting .

Do you realise how many quite ordinary houses cost well over £1m in some parts of the country? What affects the higher end of the market finds its way further down.

I think the threat of another Trump presidency is worse than a Labour government…

Labour does indeed have very large majority-but with a THIRD of the popular vote! Examination of the results shows a massive imbalance between the number of votes cast for party candidates and seats actually gained. This is the downside of the rather simplistic ‘First Past The Post’ electoral system. Perhaps proportional representation is a more democratic way although it does have its downsides for government.

That applies to any new politician surely. No-one can be certain of anything in life, especially when it comes to politics, but we can exercise our judgement & live in hope. Many of us are in that position this morning, and excited for the future - why not?

Although I did not vote for my Tory MP who has lost his seat, he did however help me solve two massive problems for which I shall be forever grateful. They are there to serve all the residents in his constituency and I do not feel guilty for not having voted for him on Thursday because I do not agree with Tory policy.

I rather like our conservative mp, and considered for a while whether I should vote against her.
I did, though, because all of the mps where I live are community spirited and helpful, whichever party.

The Tories lost on their 14 year record and were helped out of the door by Farage. Labour is the happy but somewhat unloved winner. Politics is becoming less predictable and Labour need to recognise that otherwise they will suffer from a volatile electorate next time.

No, they were helped out the door by many voters who voted for such as the lib dems, whose vote was increased, the voter's going back to Labour, voting for independants, and those refusing to vote for anyone. so not all down to voting for reform.

The Tories kept on about this and the newspapers that supported them to put people off voting Labour. I think we have more chance of them working for the working class as several of the new ministers were brought up that way so understand them more than the Tories. A lot of them came from money, were educated in private schools and are just out of touch with ordinary people. All we can do is give Labour a chance, they can't be worse.

It is hardly any concern of mine as I do not live in Britain, but if I did I would be thrilled at the prospect of a solid majority to Labour.

In more recent years they ridiculed Theresa May. They ridiculed Boris. They took the pee out of the party fullstop. EverythingConservatives planned they put obstacles in their way by riling up their supporters and involving expensive lawyers. Despite calls for parties to try and work together over certain things Labour never wanted to know.

I know it’s the job of the opposition to oppose but they did it in such a nasty, malicious way using words like scum and filth and buffoon, clown, witch etc. Not very grown up behaviour is it?

I always think that when people have a go about Rayner, or ask the police to investigate her.
Or speak about her having a child young as if its the most terrible thing ever.

Well that's a point of view.

I am pleased there is a change of government, and given the possibilities I am pleased it has gone to Labour. Of course there will be problems and not everything will go smoothly, but we (as a nation) do need to give them a chance. There is no alternative, is there?

Fair enough. Each to her own. I don't look down on 'illegitimate' children either, and wouldn't be so ill-mannered as to reference them on a board where numerous women could be hurt by such a crass remark if I did.

I used to have respect for you, GSM, but the past couple of weeks are eroding that. Your politics are up to you, as are everyone's and I don't hold them against people, but sheer unpleasantness is unnecessary and undignified. I thought you were better than that.
