Biden to stand down?

There's a clutch of headlines which hopefully indicate Biden my at last be re considering.

D Telegraph
"Biden’s supporters plot to fast-track nomination
Push to use ‘virtual’ vote to confirm president’s candidacy comes as he mistakes gender of his Secret Service chief"

Guardian "Joe Biden says he'd step down as presidential candidate if a 'medical condition emerged"

CNN "President Joe Biden is reportedly mulling a decision to step aside from the 2024 presidential race as a new poll has deepened a dilemma involving Vice President Kamala Harris.

On Wednesday evening, CNN's Jeff Zeleny reported that a senior Democratic adviser has said that the president, who was diagnosed with COVID earlier in the day, has become "more receptive" to calls for him to step down."

Hoping, as the USA needs a president who will actually engage with the world and the many more moderate voices in the USA.

Wyllow thanks for the Politico link.

Having read the article, whilst it explains how a new Democrat candidate would / could be selected, this does seem to still be predicated on Biden stepping down.

Can the Democrats, at their convention, actually stand another candidate against Biden and, in effect, vote him out that way? I can’t get that from the articleconfused

MayBee70 Sat 20-Jul-24 12:46:53

I think the main problem seems to be party funding?

Wyllow3 Sat 20-Jul-24 13:09:18

Yes, it does seem that way, LizzieDrip. (depend on stepping down). If he steps done after the convention however the process is a bit easier in replacing him as it's done within guidelines basically a committee process.

Dont know on the funding front.

Far too hasty there with the post button

There's evidence of Biden doing and saying many odd things. The press will always print Trump's comments but Biden gets away with it.

His comments at a dance competition. The girls were about 14 and he was very inappropriate. Telling the girls he'd be back in 4 years time. Very strange . Hair sniffing is also available on YouTube .

They are both unsavoury and far too old.

But I'd not worry if Trump did win. It's really not such a catastrophe. However we seem to enjoy getting in a tizz so carry on regardless

Biden has always had a habit of putting his foot in his mouth and that is much documented .
The comment with the 14 year old girl is FALSE . The mother had digitally altered the tape . You can check that out on Reuters .

It would be a catastrophe if Trump were voted in on so many levels . He has already picked Vance as VP. He is one of the authors of Project 2025.

I am in definite agreement that it is time that Biden step down.

What concerns me, is who would be the best Democratic representative to win the election for the Usa ?

There are several Governors of various states that had been mentioned in an article in The Guardian. From recollection, one is the California Governor ( the largest population in The Usa and a democratic state ) and also Pennsylvania and if I recall Wisconsin ..

Though Kamila is very good with womens matters and education etcetra, she may not be able to battle it out with Trump ..

This is challenging for sure.

Trump very much appeals to emotional feelings of patriotism. If you are American and not happy with the way things are going you would listen to him and probably support him. He is totally confident that he will be the next President. He is a good speaker, far ,far better than Biden. He avoided speaking of anything controversial, just how he will ‘make America great again’ . He didn’t particularly attack Biden, he didn’t need to. Definitely appealed to the Baptists and spoke as a believer.
What did he do that was so dreadful last time he was President? The worst thing,to me, was his behaviour when he lost the Presidency and wouldn’t accept it.

‘What did he do that was so dreadful last time he was President? The worst thing,to me, was his behaviour when he lost the Presidency and wouldn’t accept it’.
That was bad enough to prevent him for standing for president ever again. People died in the insurrection, which was instigated and supported by Trump.

Urmstongran Sat 20-Jul-24 14:23:51

Well now Trump has nominated JD Vance as his running mate, I think its a clever political appointment. I think the Democrats will be joining the Tories to wander the opposition wasteland for a long time.

Urmstongran Sat 20-Jul-24 14:28:51

Actually “The Hill Billy Elegy” was a best seller in 2016. I’d forgotten I’d got it on my kindle from Amazon. Just rereading it. It is a page turner. Vance is a very good communicator. Still. despite really poor start in life he got to Yale university.
Now, Trump’s running mate.

Thinks that women should stay in abusive relationships I believe. What a nice guy….

I am sorry but the speech was a disaster . He out and LIED 20 different times on 20 different subjects . People fell asleep watching it . Those are his supporters .
The worst thing ? An insurrection! People died and he still denies the election results .
It is also inferred by his VP that they would question the results .
His Presidency was awash with his constant lies. His comments were often racist or fanned the flames of existing discourse , He refusal to condemn the white supremacists in Charlottesville where one person , a protestor against these vile people was purposefully run over and killed .
He appointed 3 Supreme Court Justices that have overturned Roe vs Wade and continue to undermine our democracy .
He obstructed the Mueller investigation which was an obstruction of justice
He abused the pardon power and did not consult the judicial committee .
The Ukraine affair and cover up . Please look up too lengthy to cover up .
Firing whistle blowers and truth tellers who were a part of his administration .
Massive conflicts of interest while in Presidency.
His mishandling of Covid .
For me especially , taking a wrecking ball to the environment and lifting bans on oil and gas exploration in the Arctic National Refuge .
Rolling back 100 different Environmental Rules having to do with emissions and other protections to the environment , protections to animals, water pollution and toxic substances.
Exiting the Paris Climate Agreement .

MayBee70 Sat 20-Jul-24 14:58:14

One of the first things Biden did was rejoin the Paris agreement wasn’t it.

Wyllow3 Sat 20-Jul-24 15:05:10

Thank you for that summary, Syracute.

Important to add:

The Trump Administration’s Health Care Sabotage.

Many many in poverty cannot access more than the most basic medical care. Cancer/complex conditions Care? Forget it if you don't have substantial insurance.

Populist leaders like Trump don’t really want the electorate to be educated, do they sad

Urmstongran Sat 20-Jul-24 15:19:22

Tosh.

Casdon Sat 20-Jul-24 15:36:30

It’s not actually Urmstongran, it’s well known that education liberates people, and worldwide, the educated are far less likely to vote for populist leaders.

Urmstongran Sat 20-Jul-24 15:36:55

Well that’s me telt.

Casdon Sat 20-Jul-24 15:45:32

I thought you’d know, as Trump himself definitely does - and celebrates it.

Well it is no longer well regarded as it is an insult to those in Appalachia and is based on a lot of falsehoods . He was fitting a narrative for political aspirations . He did not grow up in Appalachia but a suburb in Ohio . The book is being roundly condemned . So if you read the book, you need to read why it’s now very controversial . It’s a good story of which much is fiction .

NotSpaghetti Sat 20-Jul-24 16:22:18

Syracute I don't think many people are even looking at Project 2025 over here!
I mentioned it earlier but nobody commented.

It’s mentioned a lot on the American Facebook pages that I’m on. It is truly terrifying. I’m hoping that the Democrats will attempt to educate the American electorate in the implications of it; I can’t believe that any woman could support it.

Galaxy Sat 20-Jul-24 16:38:22

Many women are against abortion, it's not that unusual. I am wary of thinking women, gay people etc should vote in a particular way. You are going to be disappointed if thats your expectation.

MayBee70 Sat 20-Jul-24 16:51:18

Even abortion after a woman has been raped? Or if the woman’s life is in danger if the pregnancy goes ahead!

Galaxy Sat 20-Jul-24 16:53:42

Yes I am sure there are women who believe that. We have to be able to cope with the fact that people hold beliefs we dont agree with ir even find abhorrent.
