There's a clutch of headlines which hopefully indicate Biden my at last be re considering.

D Telegraph
"Biden’s supporters plot to fast-track nomination
Push to use ‘virtual’ vote to confirm president’s candidacy comes as he mistakes gender of his Secret Service chief"

Guardian "Joe Biden says he'd step down as presidential candidate if a 'medical condition emerged"

CNN "President Joe Biden is reportedly mulling a decision to step aside from the 2024 presidential race as a new poll has deepened a dilemma involving Vice President Kamala Harris.

On Wednesday evening, CNN's Jeff Zeleny reported that a senior Democratic adviser has said that the president, who was diagnosed with COVID earlier in the day, has become "more receptive" to calls for him to step down."

Hoping, as the USA needs a president who will actually engage with the world and the many more moderate voices in the USA.

Yes I am sure there are women who believe that. We have to be able to cope with the fact that people hold beliefs we dont agree with ir even find abhorrent.

But we also have to realise that, quite often, what happens in America works it’s way here. And people that worry that the UK might one day be subject to Shariah law need to look the other way and realise that women’s rights are being eroded from the other side of the pond.

I don't worry about that MayBee but I do worry about the withdrawal of hard won rights which is already happening there.

Galaxy Sat 20-Jul-24 18:14:22

Honestly it's the least of my worries n terms of this country and I say that as someone who has supported abortion rights my whole life.

Project 25 - the first part - completely reshapes political institutions taking away any independent civil service jobs, political appointees instead across the board, would make the FBI directly political appointees to the president instead of independent.

It dismantles a democracy: here is the first part in summary

"Essentially, the Project 2025 handbook acts as a manual for the next Republican president, detailing ways to reshape and give the executive branch more power.

“We need to flood the zone with conservatives,” Paul Dans, director of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project at The Heritage Foundation and a former Trump administration official, said, according to the Associated Press.

Building off four pillars — a policy agenda, personnel, training, and a “180-day playbook” — Project 2025 organizers plan to “pave the way for an effective conservative administration.”

The plan hinges on the election of a Republican president and uses Trump’s “Schedule F” policy, which was ended by Biden, to reclassify tens of thousands of federal workers as political appointees to try and enable mass dismissals

Yea it's A main component of Project 2025 is the firing of as many as 50,000 federal workers who conservative groups say will get in the way of his agenda. Under Project 2025, agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education would be “eliminated,” and others, like the Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission, and Justice Department, would be put under the president’s control

A so-called top-to-bottom “overhaul” of the Department of Justice would end FBI efforts to stop misinformation. (!?)The Pentagon would “abolish” diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives if Project 2025 is adopted, and service members discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine would be reinstated

Imagine Trump - or any president - with basically dictatorship powers if these were carried through - all by direct order.

Trump has a particular beef with the FBI, feeling it should do his bidding, not carry out investigations that look bad for him. He's quite paranoid:

"Attorney General Merrick Garland said former President Trump’s false claim about the FBI being ready to kill him in their Mar-a-Lago search is “extremely dangerous” in recent comments"

Trump was president for 5 yrs, the world didn’t come to an end, we didn’t have Armageddon, for all his bluster and tough talk not much changed. He may be unpleasant, but he’s not going to start WW3, for better or worse he’s the front runner, unless the Democrats get their act together he’s going to win the election

Wyllow3 Sat 20-Jul-24 21:24:59

Have you forgotten the crazy twitters going on through the night? Injecting disinfectant for covid? The deaths in the invasion of the capitol? The recorded telephone call attempts to force the Republican in charge of the voting in the state of Georgia to find him enough votes illegally to win the state?

and the lies

Crazy twitters arent the world coming to an end though. We would be doomed every time Owen Jones touched the keyboard if that was the casegrin

Casdon Sat 20-Jul-24 22:03:19

I don’t think Owen Jones is standing for President though, and I’d hazard a guess he has a few less followers?

Wyllow3 Sat 20-Jul-24 22:05:20

grin
Indeed so..... fortunately he isn't running for president

Galaxy Sat 20-Jul-24 22:08:25

Shhh now Casdon you will hurt his feelings.

Trump didn't have Project 25 when he was elected last time. and no doubt the rich and powerful Republicans now supporting him have a pretty good idea of how they will be able to manipulate him more effectively than last time.
Last time was a dummy run...

Project 25 is a completely anti democratic plan on the same sort of lines as Putin's Russia. It will enable Trump and his handlers to eliminate any opposition and to seize absolute power.

He won't cause WW3 but he will destroy the USA if it gives him wealth, power and plenty of time to play golf...

Trump was President for 4 years.

Trump is a TRAITOR ! January 6th was an utter disgrace to our nation.
I am not going to repeat all of his wrongs AGAIN.
But there were MANY that has changed the fabric of US Democracy.
Women’s rights to their own bodies have been denied .
His appointment of 3 judges to the Supreme Court has been a disaster .
You clearly are not well versed on the impact Trump has had on the USA.

NotSpaghetti Sun 21-Jul-24 00:49:43

Exactly MaizieD he will be an elected dictator.

MayBee70 Sun 21-Jul-24 08:56:19

In his speech yesterday Trump said he knew nothing about Project25. I couldn’t believe the way he rambled on incoherently and his fans loved it. DH and I sat watching the tv shaking our heads.

Vintagewhine Sun 21-Jul-24 09:23:06

Project 2025 is extremely worrying. Unfortunately most Trump supporters and clearly many posters on here are totally ignorant of what it contains perhaps they should read it? Trump is dangerous and he's better organised this time round so if the Democrats stick with Biden , they'll definitely lose.

Unfortunately Trump will win the election, it’s already lost as far as Biden or his successor is concerned. The attempted assassination assured the outcome.
He’s definitely dangerous as well as a nut.He will be worse next time around.

I had to read up on Project 25 and found this simplified article . Trump is claiming no knowledge of it at the moment, but I could see him being attracted to the power it proposes for a president.

Wyllow3 Sun 21-Jul-24 10:09:03

Trump and Project 25?

“Trump also spoke highly about the group's plans at a dinner sponsored by the Heritage Foundation in April 2022, saying: “This is a great group, and they’re going to lay the groundwork and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do and what your movement will do when the American people give us a colossal mandate to save America.”

There’s also a picture of him at the Heritage Foundation's President's Club meeting in Washington on Oct. 17, 2017.
