In what world is this OK? I despair really.

Iam64 Mon 12-Aug-24 08:04:26

I wish I had a simple answer but we all know there isn’t one. It needs an immediate cease fire and two state solution.

David49 Netanyahu is so unimportant that he was invited to address the US Congress on 24.07.24 . He's so unimportant that the ICC has charged him with war crimes. Really? Netanyahu is responsible for the way Israel is conducting this war which IMO makes him pivotal.

Personally he is unimportant, he represents the policy of the Israeli parliament, if he is replaced another will take his place. In the unlikely event of an election, policy may or may not change.

In WW2 we had a national government led by Churchill he had the support of parliament and was the spokesman,

Whitewavemark2 Mon 12-Aug-24 08:41:10

The entire conduct of Israeli actions these past months has been entirely directed by Netanyahu.

He is the PM

He carries the responsibility.

Anniebach Mon 12-Aug-24 08:45:58

A PM is not answerable to parliament?

David49 Mon 12-Aug-24 08:53:00

As leader he directs it with the approval of parliament who can depose him anytime they like, that’s how democracy works. We may not approve of that, however if there was an election are the voters in Israel really likely to vote for submission to Hamas?.

Unlike Hamas who rule Gaza by dictatorship, you live or die by our command - 40000 have so far.

A citizen is generally answerable to the rule of law, but not in Netanyahus case apparently.

Bribery, fraud and breach of trust is all avoided as long as he clings onto the seat of power, which he does by being aided and abetted by the most hard right government Israel has ever had the misfortune to have.

Definition of genocide means any of the following acts committed to destroy in whole or in part a national, ethical, religious or racial group such as

Killing members of that group

Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of that group

Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction, in whole or in part.

Imposing measures to prevent birth within the group

Forcibly transferring children of thst group to another group

Yes, genocide. And Netanyahu is entirely responsible.

That some still want to 'excuse' what is going on now- is shocking beyond belief. As is the total refusal to accept that this conflict has been going on since the Nakbah- and that Palestine were robbed of their land, livelihood, dignity and so much more, ever since, and not just in Gaza.

A government voted by the people

He will not stop until Palestine is completely wiped out, then he'll extend Israel onto that land...and the awful thing that all nations will have on their consciences is that no=one stopped him..

Wyllow3 Mon 12-Aug-24 10:33:42

Its very hard to find out what going on in Gaza because it would seem attention is focussing on Iran:

And until now, anyone saying this on social media, has been deleted and even banned, because of systematic reporting and accusation of antisemitism.

That was before people understood what was anti-Semite rhetoric and what wasn’t.

The Holocaust museum is a good resource for that. It is explained in easy detail.

Wyllow3 Mon 12-Aug-24 11:07:51

It's important to make it clear in posts the difference between criticising the current regime in Israel and its actions, and anti-semitic statements. Out there on parts of social media there is anti semitism just as there are other "hate" posts as we've seen in the UK.

well of course Fleur and that is the very reason they have been allowed to continue.. but those of us who are part of the Palestine solidarity groups have been watching this encroachment for years

In many cases, it was always VERY clear- but deletes and even bans continued, providing several members complained of anti-semitism re that poster, thread or post.

You mean Gaza?
It’s actually hamas who won’t rest until they’ve wiped out all the Jews.Palestinians live in Israel alongside Jews and aren’t siding with hamas.
No nation is going to help hamas, they’re a terrorist group.
The only thing I don’t agree with is for years the Jewish settlers have been pushing into the West Bank.It was stopped years ago and then began again.

Oh the anti-semitism out there on SM is rife and disgusting.

This thread is about just another bombing, by Israel, of a SCHOOL in Gaza. They won't rest until they have wiped out all the Palestinian Muslims- and taken all thee land.

If you can't or won't see this, then what can I say.

The whole situation is dreadful and I don’t know what will satisfy both sides to end it.

So what do you propose as a solution?

If Israel stop their determination to root out Hamas, do you suppose Hamas will just sit back and say it’s all over?

Are you certain that a group who started this without any concern the Israelis that they killed, raped, or kidnapped
or concern for the backlash that would inevitably affect Palestinians will now give up and admit they were at fault in the first place?

maddyone Mon 12-Aug-24 14:45:34

I haven’t read all the thread yet (I’m about to go out) but will read later. I just want to say I’m extremely worried about the whole situation in the Middle East. I’m afraid of all out war breaking out.
I’ll read the thread when I get back.

Anyone listen to the today programme this morning with Mishal Hussain interviewing an Israeli representative?

Blimey!

No

My iPad doesn’t do links, but you must be able to find it on BBC sounds or some such.

Hussain wiped the floor with him. And he called her a Hamas propagandist 😄😄. It was dreadful and very embarrassing.
