(Apologies to those who don’t have FB and can’t see the content - I couldn’t work out another way of copying the video)
I think anyone who, like me, feels aggrieved by Labour’s decision on the pensioners’ winter fuel payment should share this video far and wide on social media - maybe it can force a discussion at Prime Minister’s Question Time??

Dickens these are exactly the points I was going to make but you just beat me. Not a competition though!

I'd be very interested to hear your points!

Does anyone know if we need to shop around for a new energy deal now? I’m sure that Martin Lewis said a while back that with prices still fluctuating it wasn’t a good idea to get into a fixed rate contract..Maerion, thank you for your informative posts. I’m afraid that, since the referendum I tend to get very wound up and emotional about political stuff.

That was 8 years ago. Don’t you think it’s time to let it go.

Dickens
wouldnt life be better for so many people if those in work were paid a wage etc
That didn’t necessitate the tax payer subsidising the employers.

No, he said it quite recently.

I wasn’t referring to Martin Lewis. I was referring to your im afraid since the referendum I tend to get very wound up and emotional about political stuff

No. I won’t. Don’t you get emotional about things that are affecting your children’s and grandchildren’s futures? And, can I point out that your comment is the sort of comment that can make someone very upset? In fact, the total opposite if Maerions post. We’re still living with the aftermath of Brexit ( which was won using lies and misinformation) so why should I when lies and misinformation are still causing terrible problems. You have no right to tell me how I should feel.

MayBee70 Fri 16-Aug-24 17:29:02

In fact, why did you have to bring that up when I was asking about energy costs? I’m having a s**t enough day as it is having been the victim of buying something from a fraudulent company ( probably a result of being so naive stupid and over emotional….)

GrannyGravy13 Fri 16-Aug-24 17:45:55

MayBee70 sorry you are having a bad day, I hope you can get help from your bank regarding your purchase 💐

MayBee70 Fri 16-Aug-24 17:57:57

Thanks GG13. Thus far this week my partners ended up in A&E, my dog has been at the vets with a suspicious lump and now I’ve been scammed. Partner got away with bruising, dog thankfully has a cyst and bank sorting out the scam. But it’s left me a bit fragile. I’ll post the scam in the hope that no one else falls for it. I don’t understand how fraudulent companies get away with! I will take it further, though, although I doubt if anything will come of it!

I’m very very grumpy!!! Having said that the lady at the proper box company was lovely as was the lady at the bank. Can’t even take it out on the dog….

Dickens said "Other countries appear to be able to run a robust Capitalist economy and invest in its people. Why can't we?"
I don't know why we can't either. We seem to hold Conservative "handbag economics" as some sort of non negotiable truth. But it is just a theory.
Now this Starmer Government is following the same sort of economics as George Osborne because they think it makes them look tough and sensible, hoping that private enterprise will do their job for them.

MaizieD Fri 16-Aug-24 19:18:27

I just cannot understand why Osborneomics is making a comeback when austerity did huge damage last time round and is responsible for so much of the deterioration of the UK that we are enduring now.

I can't understand how Reeves can be so blinded to its dangers.

Business isn't going to invest where it sees no reward...

Ilovecheese Fri 16-Aug-24 19:27:31

I feel the same MaizieD
She knows that it didn't work, quite the opposite.
Why should private companies invest in a country if the country's own Government doesn't think it is worth doing.

Perhaps he is one of these people who get a reputation for being clever and competent but are actually nothing of the kind.

Doodledog Fri 16-Aug-24 19:50:35

We haven't had the budget yet, and KS has led the government for six weeks or so.

Workplace appraisals and performance reviews are usually annual for a reason. Surely it's sensible to wait until the government has had a year or so before judging them on their performance? At least wait until we've heard the budget before criticising what might (or might not) be announced?

Another shout out for Dickens post

Me memory may be failing me (again) but didn’t Gordon Brown introduce tax credits with the aim of ensuring people in work were never worse off than those on benefits? Forgive me for not asking google - I’m certain posters will correct me if I’m off piste.
My memory is of me, long term Labour voter, raging at the radio. Demanding to know why I, a tax payer not earning a big salary, should subsidise Large employers, like our local supermarkets. Why shouldn’t they pay a living wage I remember asking.
Please, someone tell me I’m mis remembering. If I’m not, curious the conservatives over the lady 14 years didn’t ditch this idea

None of us know what’s going on in each others lives, all we can do on here is react to whatever is posted.
Saying that since the referendum you get emotional and very wound up by political stuff sounds strange when it happened eight years ago! You can’t expect posters to be sympathetic about your view of Brexit.

Well, errr, yes and no.
True that they haven’t been in power very long but look at what’s happening so far and it isn’t inspiring.

Don’t worry…I’ve asked HQ to ban me. I’m sick of this place….

Iam64 Fri 16-Aug-24 21:50:29

Oreo - you may not be inspired - i hadn’t even considered expecting to be inspired six weeks after the new government took over. I’m still in relief mode that we no longer have to feel anxious that our govt is systematically destroying our public services
They inherited a right mess then Southport and it’s desperate legacy
I’m not expecting to be inspired and will be delighted if that happens
