Have to say this sounds like a non news story but it seems some are getting hot under the collar about it. Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with a young woman like Angela enjoying a holiday in Ibiza and dancing in a nightclub. She wasn't doing anything wrong.
I like the fact that Angela is from a working class background in the North, the same as me, it makes her far more in touch with those who feel that politicians recently are on another planet. She also has fire in her belly and God forbid a love of life. Reminds me of a young Barbara Castle.
Keep on dancing Ang, but keep your smartest moves for those opposite you in the HoC.

Yes it does - parents really stretched and four days would help. Also research says employers get more in four than five days

I really hope that this does not become enshrined in law

Business owners should be allowed to run their businesses with minimum interference from Government.

Health & Safety along with taxes excepted.

MissAdventure Tue 03-Sept-24 18:22:11

It isn't going to become law, and it isn't just for parents, it is for "workers".

MissAdventure Tue 03-Sept-24 18:26:14

From the independent

However, ministers have insisted they have “no plans” to force businesses to accept a four-day working week. A Department for Business and Trade spokesperson said: “Our Make Work Pay plan is designed around increasing productivity and creating the right conditions for businesses to support sustained economic growth.

You're always welcome. smile

They are always throwing stuff at Angela Rayner. They hate her working class background and everything she does is criticised. Pathetic.

MissAdventure Tue 03-Sept-24 18:39:18

I was just wondering what height heels her shoes have.

I'm worried that young people might copy her if they're high, (the heels, not the young people!) and damage their backs...

ronib Tue 03-Sept-24 18:42:33

Oh no the prime offender for high heels has to be The Princess of Wales. MissA

MissAdventure Tue 03-Sept-24 18:44:53

Oh yes.
I can agree with that!

Eloethan it’s not that AR has a working class background- it’s just that certain posters have very old fashioned ideas about the presentation of self in high public office. We can’t help having an expectation of professional behaviour in public office. What matters more though is how the country is run and at the moment, we are wondering how far down the line we go before the IMF takes over….

maddyone Tue 03-Sept-24 19:05:03

Only just seen this on GN as I’m out of the country at the moment.
I don’t understand why anyone cares what AR does when she’s on holiday. It’s nobody’s business only hers, unless she breaks the law!

Iam64 Tue 03-Sept-24 20:02:31

What’s is the IMF please ronib

I think ‘certain posters’ is mainly you on this thread ronib. We all expect high standards of politicians, but being seen in a nightclub in Ibiza on a holiday, wearing a respectable outfit and not behaving in an inappropriate manner is not a culpable offence in the eyes of the vast majority.

Fartooold Tue 03-Sept-24 20:20:14

Totally agree Casdon
BTW you childish lot re my name didn’t realise the significance until it was too late. However name suits my humour blush

Iam64. The International Monetary Fund. It bails out countries.

ronib Tue 03-Sept-24 20:27:20

Casdon there is at least one banned poster who found a lack of professionalism difficult. It’s not just me.

Casdon Tue 03-Sept-24 20:39:13

I’m guessing there isn’t a banned poster on this thread though ronib? A lot of us on Gransnet are former professionals, but we also live in the modern world, rather than expecting current professionals to live up to the professional standards of the 1960s. We judge people on the performance of their job.

Iam64 Tue 03-Sept-24 21:53:35

Thanks ronib, I’ll relax as I don’t expect it to be needed

ronib Tue 03-Sept-24 21:55:21

Iam64 but - black holes? More black holes? I hope you are right.

Lovetopaint037 Tue 03-Sept-24 22:29:23

Nothing like a break or holiday when you have a stressful job situation. It enlivens the brain just as a good sleep does.

eazybee Wed 04-Sept-24 08:46:53

We judge people on the performance of their job.

Which is exactly why people are concerned about Angela Rayner, her woeful lack of education and her ineptitude.

Apparently her intention is to remove the right to buy on newly built council houses and cut the discount offered to existing tenants. Fine, should have been stopped years ago, except that she benefited by buying her council home for £79,000 after claiming a discount of 25 per cent, then sold it later with a profit of £48,000. (DT, 4.9.24.)
Do as I say, not as I do.
Rank hypocrisy and native cunning.

ronib Wed 04-Sept-24 09:10:53

Eazybee Dan Neidle estimated a capital gains tax of around £3500 on the sale as couples are treated as having a main residence which is exempt from tax and AR was selling a second home. Interesting one that.

foxie48 Wed 04-Sept-24 10:45:12

The laws around CGT are notoriously complicated and I bet there are a few people on GN who have failed to pay this tax some because of ignorance and some quite deliberately. I'm attaching an interesting revue of this case for anyone who wants to dig this up again. It is of note the HMRC decided there was no tax to pay and no further action to take. fwiw AR was not an MP when she sold her house.

We will have to wait and see how well she performs in her job eazybee. Performance isn’t about doing things because other people agree with them, it’s about meeting the brief you are given.

ronib Wed 04-Sept-24 11:04:54

foxie48 AR became an MP in May 2015. Her second home was sold in March 2015. I don’t quite understand what your point is?
