Hezbollah Exploding Pagers!

9 dead (so far) up to 3,000 Hezbollah operatives injured across Lebanon and Syria.

Apparently the pagers were manufactured in TaiWan and packed with explosives. The Taiwanese producers are vehemently denying this.

Israeli Government is being rather quiet, no statement so far. Hezbollah have said that there will be serious repercussions

It is like a plot from a Johnny English film…

It’s very clever. Not only does it knock out Hezbollah’s communications but it identifies them.

The Taiwanese producers claim that the pagers were made in Hungary. Either way it is a very worrying turn of events. I would think that Israel has enough to be going on with at the moment without inciting Hezbollah. I suppose this will bring more death and destruction on the poor civilians caught up in the aftermath in Lebanon.

Indeed, while it is like something out of a spy film, at the end of the day, it will be the innocents who will end up paying the price for the repercussions which will follow.

Other posters have said it all. It's like something from a film. It's real people being devastatingly injured. A bleep sounded first so they'd all be getting them out and looking at them. What sick mind came up with this then happily manufactured and supplied them?! Bad times.

That was my thought.

They have obviously switched to pagers as they are not as easily (if at all, will check with DS) tracked as mobile phones.

Hezbollah have been firing rockets into Israel for many years, backed by Iran. It will not be Iranian civilians suffering and dying, more Syrians, Lebanese and Israelis along with any one else in the area.

We should not forget that Hezbollah and Hamas are committed to the destruction of Israel.

It is thought that the Israeli secret service intercepted the pagers then “modified” them.

From The Telegraph this morning:

“ Hezbollah’s pagers were meant to be safety measures, secure from Israeli eavesdropping.

Instead, they were a deadly Trojan horse.

After suffering a series of assassinations of top operatives during months of low-level war with Israel, this summer Hezbollah ordered its fighters to ditch their mobile phones. They were too easy to track and too readily compromised by Israel’s fearsome military hackers.

“If you’re looking for an Israeli agent, look at the phone in your hand,” Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s chief, warned his men.

Instead, communications would be confined to more old-fashioned means: couriers delivering messages by word of mouth.

Telecoms would be limited to 1980s-style pagers, with none of the vulnerabilities of smartphones, Hezbollah sources told Reuters in July.

Thousands of the latest and most secure models were duly procured and distributed to top fighters, officials and allies.

On Tuesday afternoon, that was revealed as a terrible blunder.

At 3.45pm local time, thousands of pagers in thousands of pockets simultaneously exploded.”

My only reaction is profound sadness.

Wyllow3 Wed 18-Sept-24 09:39:37

Me too. The innocents caught up in all of this, in all the areas.

Those who live by the sword.......

Hezbollah, backed by Iran, has a history of carrying out international terrorist attacks.

These terrorist fighters are not representative of many of the Lebanese people.

Totally agree, to me they are in the same category as Hamas and Daesh

Was the delivery of pagers destined for Hezbollah and distributed to Hezbollah operatives only, or were they available to the general population too?

Delila Wed 18-Sept-24 10:31:58

Most of the people in that market fell like ninepins. It was hard to believe it was really happening.

Cannot find anything to say they were for general distribution online.

All articles (Reuters, BBC, SKY etc) are indicating it was a special consignment for Hezbollah in order to communicate without traceability.

I think it’s a brilliant idea. More power to their elbow.
I don’t care who manufactured them, it worked.

Thanks GG13.

Hezbollah nor the powers that finance and control are nice better to knock out the bad guys than let them continue to bomb innocents.

Pity the poor innocents who were caught up in it though, no?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 18-Sept-24 13:01:39

Whilst I can sympathise with any innocents who were injured yesterday, I have less than zero sympathy with Hezbollah terrorists.

I doubt they have a sympathetic atom in their entire body!

Jaxjacky Wed 18-Sept-24 13:02:33

12 killed including two children, 3,000 injured the majority of injuries are to the face and hands.
Truly merciless.

petra Wed 18-Sept-24 13:12:03

MissInterpreted
Up until 2022 Hezbollah held 71 seats out of 128 in the Lebanese parliament.
By the law of averages it appears a lot of poor innocents voted for them.
