Sausages……..how.

So this is the biggest gaff any PM has ever made.

Sausages…. hostages how?

Casdon Wed 25-Sept-24 09:53:51

I’m not anywhere near as confident as you of their circumspection, look how they handled Boris and Nazanin, it was all over the media. Some explosive stuff has been on the media about Ukraine/Russia and what people have said too. We’ll all carry on thinking what we think though, no doubt about that.

Oh how some of you are revelling in this aren’t you. Pathetic imo.

Oh dear, how dare we criticise St Starmer, for a gaffe that is really unpardonable. Or are you OK that those imprisoned by Hamas terrorists are called, possibly on the world stage, sausages.

LizzieDrip Wed 25-Sept-24 10:02:27

Grannybags that’s because some GN posters appear determined to demonise KS for every single thing he does / says / doesn’t do / doesn’t say … and then criticise those of us who rebut their tittle tattle.

With the Middle East on the brink of full scale war, overnight KS has authorised the mobilisation of 700 troops to the region to evacuate British nationals.

But let’s not bother about that on GN … let’s go on and on about who bought his glasses, and take the p* out of him for a slip of the tongue in a speech.

FFS!

A slip of the tongue, hilarious but nothing more.
PMs have said worse things intentionally, Boris had a whole repertoire of intended gaffes. Like when he called Muslim women Daleks and Obama ‘one of them’ referring to his colour, to name but two examples.
But then he had Boris immunity, something the people of this nation conspired to award him no matter how diabolical he was, until partygate and Pincher.
Compared to this the sausages slip is very small fry. Pun intended.

Cossy Wed 25-Sept-24 10:10:08

It was funny, not because of the subject matter, which is horrendous, but because it was a genuine gaffe and a funny word!

I completely agree

Hilarious!

I can assure you that Mr. Johnson was regularly lambasted on GN when he was an MP and even more so when he was a PM, along with all Conservative MPs.

I am just surprised that Labour supporters have forgotten so much so quickly? 🤷‍♀️

nanna8 Wed 25-Sept-24 10:10:49

I’d guess he just misread the cue thing. I wouldn’t make much of it really. Now had it been Biden, I would be questioning his mind but I don’t think that is an issue here. He knows exactly what he is doing.

In exactly the same way as any politician wearing a blue rosette was on a daily basis - the words sauce, goose and gander spring to mind.

They haven’t forgotten.
It’s just double standards.

Maybe, if you’re so concerned about those imprisoned and their families you would, knowing that it was an accidental slip of the tongue, not go out of your way to publicise it as much as possible to protect their feelings. Instead you are using them to further your hatred of the PM. Imo

OldFrill Wed 25-Sept-24 11:34:52

I simply found the gaffe amusing. My amusement in no way was a criticism of Starmer.
Folk do read too much from very little.

BevSec Wed 25-Sept-24 11:47:43

Just shows how important a sense of humour is, without any rancour being intended. Wish some on here could see that!

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 11:57:06

A sense of humour and gransnet don't belong in the same sentence, it seems, these days.

Regardless, whether people are amused, or point scoring for some reason, any reference or taking part in a thread about the gaffe could be seen as showing little respect, couldn't it?

lilydily9 Wed 25-Sept-24 12:00:48

Kier Starmer always speaks via an autocue. I know many don't take to Nigel Farage but he never uses one. He is confident in what he says and knows how to say it. Starmer is like a rabbit in the headlights most of the time and I suspect nerves got to him at the conference, hence stumbling over the word.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 12:03:00

He must be mortified today.

It doesn't stop Farage talking BS though.

Ditto! It was both very unfortunate and highly amusing!

In my working life I presented regularly to audiences of all sizes and occasionally made idiotic gaffes, despite much preparation and seemingly endless confidence! It happens.

Yes. Thankfully in 5 years time Farage will be PM and he really understands the plight of poorer people. Or Badenoch who understands the working class because she ‘ once had a job at McDonalds’.

I totally disagree, he was a pretty successful lawyer and as such would be more than used to speaking out in front of people.

I don’t think it was nerves at all, simply a slip of the tongue, nothing more, nothing less.

I absolutely agree that he probably doesn’t love himself or the sound of his own voice, quite as much as Farage!

Now that is funny!!

On what planet, and how, does Farage “understand poor people”?

He was born into wealth, made more cash prior to going into politics, is making shedloads from GB News, and I’m A Celeb, and he’d make the worst PM ever, as he has no sensible or workable or funded policies!

Rekarie Wed 25-Sept-24 12:12:38

I still fail to see how anyone could mistake sausages for hostages.

He's not a good speaker. As has been mentioned, Farage is excellent, but as has also been mentioned he doesn't always speak for many of us.

Just seen that the unions have voted against the removal of fuel allowance for pensioners, and Starmer took a £20.000 donation to help his son get GCSEs. Not sure why anyone would need 20 grand for this.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Sept-24 12:15:26

It's quite a common thing.
Not unheard of for your brain to just put a word up, and your mouth to follow through.

I once told someone who asked that I was planning to wear a pair of sandwiches when we went out.
