A woman of integrity.

ronib Sun 29-Sept-24 09:54:45

Anniebach again I have not understood your antipathy to RD. Please explain.

Cossy Sun 29-Sept-24 09:56:07

ronib

Cossy yes it’s possible to be in government for 14 years with multiple changes of pm - bring it on.

All I can say is some here have very short memories. The very same people who accuse some of support Starmer at all costs, which simply isn’t true.

It’s not great to have 5 PMs within 14 years, especially without GEs

ronib Sun 29-Sept-24 09:56:23

Cossy well get the rules changed.

Is it honourable to stand as a Labour Party candidate then resign as a Labour Party MP less than 3 months later ?,

Not in my opinion!

AGAA4 Sun 29-Sept-24 10:14:06

I saw RD speaking on LK and not surprised she has resigned. She talked about the freebies and the lads culture in the LP. It seems not much support for women's rights from the "lads". KS and his group are showing themselves to be lacking in ethics.

Grantanow Sun 29-Sept-24 10:21:15

RD stood as a Labour candidate on the manifesto but the manifesto did not say WFA would be taken from pensioners - Starmer ratted on the electors and RD is honourable in calling him out. I respect her. But the freebies are a drop in the ocean compared with Tory sleaze and the real issues facing the UK - the broken NHS and the cost of living.

Mt61 Sun 29-Sept-24 10:22:19

Cossy- & government before that! Who took us into a war we did not need to be in, on the bases of lies

Do you really believe this? Or, as she has long standing issues a she “using” women’s rights to cross over?

Starmer does have a fair amount of women in his cabinet. I’ve never seen any evidence that he is sexist.

Yes, the personal donations were undoubtably “sleazy”, the clothes etc but not the property loan. No, I don’t agree at all with the way the WFA has been instigated.

Interesting though, almost no one on here seems to be able to acknowledge
that this country is a mess and the PM role is a poison chalice, nor to mention any of the positive measures the LP has and is putting in place

AGAA4 Sun 29-Sept-24 10:28:55

Cossy yes the country is in a mess and KS has been handed a poison chalice but he is not endearing himself to the people by accepting freebies when many are struggling. The fact that he wouldn't say what a woman is speaks volumes too.

This thread is pointless, it’s just feeding a need ,

How do you mean?

Galaxy Sun 29-Sept-24 10:31:41

It's a news story and we are commenting on it, many of us have 'followed' Rosie Duffield for a very long time. I dont know if thats fulfilling a need but it is why I commented on it.

Kinda handy , the timing.

The thread like so many is pointless.

Esmay Sun 29-Sept-24 10:36:36

At last someone , who really sticks to their principles .
Well done , Rosie .

Nor mine. She knew her party very well having been an MP since 2017. It's good to have different views within a party (I'm sure the new Conservative Party leader will face that too, it's always the case in Parties). A resignation much further down the line after the Labour Party have tired to put more policies into action is another matter - we haven't even had the first budget.

Galaxy Sun 29-Sept-24 10:37:23

No it's pointless to you. That's different to it being pointless.

Very interesting article about Duffield from the area she represents - the people who actually know her as their MP. It was written in June 2024 so it’s not ‘sour grapes’ about her resignation.

Shines a different light on the ‘holier than though’ Ms Duffield!

RD’s letter

I think of we are being urged to actually read Duffield's letter we could equally be urged to read LizzieDrip's article!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 29-Sept-24 10:56:56

I have read both.

Visgir1 Sun 29-Sept-24 11:00:18

It was interesting what she said to LK this morning, I also thought she looked upset. She is brave, but she was right someone had to make a stand, for the hard working Back benchers.

Galaxy Sun 29-Sept-24 11:02:55

I have read it. It's as I would have expected and not in anyway a concern to me. I actually have no idea if she is a good constituency MP or not but I certainly wouldnt be guided by that letter. Those slurs 'transphobic' and 'stirring up the claims of antisemitism against Corbyn' have been claims from the left for a very long time.
Oh and most of the views that RD held and holds on the gender issues are now labour party policy. You should see what people call Wes Streeting on the issue.

Wyllow3 Sun 29-Sept-24 11:06:10

It would appear from the article Lizzie alludes to she has been anything but "hard working" locally.

"Oh and most of the views that RD held and holds on the gender issues are now labour party policy."

Yes.

As in L party policy now:

Maintenance of single-sex exceptions in facilities

Implementation of the Cass Review recommendations

No return to previous gender self-identification policy

Omission of any reference to removing the spousal exit clause

Focus on ending male violence against women and girls

Galaxy Sun 29-Sept-24 11:13:14

As I said who knows but I wouldnt be guided by that letter.
As I say I could if I wanted to I could produce numerous tweets (from the left) calling Wes Streeting horrific names, that doesnt mean they are accurate.

Galaxy Sun 29-Sept-24 11:15:33

Yes and they are all the things that people who complain about Rosie Duffields views would describe as transphobic. So for those saying that people have in the past had 'concerns' about her views, well they are now the views of the labour party.
