Good.
I thought it had been swept under the carpet. T2 at Manchester airport this summer when a WPC had her nose broken.

It’s clear from the video that they should have been jailed immediately without bail and prosecuted. Something is very wrong here.

*gone unpunished missing from the title.

Good, thanks for bringing this to our attention, it needs highlighting.

kircubbin2000 Tue 08-Oct-24 12:27:58

I think they are afraid of the backlash and riots which might occur.

BevSec Tue 08-Oct-24 12:48:24

Kircubbin yes indeed.

I thought this prosecution was still in progress?

Have I missed something?

No, you haven't. It is still in progress.

Three months later?!
People were jailed for throwing something or pushing against police in the riots and within a week.
In this case we have seen the footage of these two violent men punching police to the floor.
It’s right that police kicking a restrained man on the floor should be def looked at, but these two men should have been charged straight away. The two cases could have run in tandem.
But no, one policeman was suspended and no charges yet to be brought to vile individuals acting in blind rages with nil respect for authority.

Prosecutions take time. Most of the people convicted after the riots pleaded guilty, so there was no prosecution preparation or trial- the matter went straight to sentencing.

They weren’t even charged yet alone prosecuted.

Excellent news. I’d like to know why it’s taking so long. Their disgusting act has been caught on film.

Somebody I knew was killed by a speeding car two and a half years ago. The inquest has only just taken place. The wheels of justice can be slow.

Greater Manchester Police submitted a file of evidence to the CPS in August about the incidents at Manchester Airport and are awaiting a charging decision. They have not provided ongoing commentary, in order not to jeopardise the cases.

They're on bail. The CPS will decide about a charge.

MaizieD Tue 08-Oct-24 14:22:59

I would suspect that a private prosecution would only be allowed if the CPS decide not to prosecute.

pleaded guilty because they were threatened with a long time on remand if they didnt.

There are no links between the riots and this case, except for the timing.

As people have pointed out, this case is one amongst many waiting in the CPS queue moving at normal speed.

Seems to me Reform have picked it deliberately because of the backgrounds of those arrested, trying to make some point about favouritism, when there is no evidence for that at all.

Oh dear. Should they be allowed a free ride .

Wyllow3 Tue 08-Oct-24 15:23:28

Thank you Freya for the details .

It seems to me a very, very dangerous precedent when money can apparently buy early attention to a case.

Reform are suggesting (in the article) crowdfunding it.

What about the victims of other cases waiting for justice seeing their cases pushed aside by those with money and power? No, very wrong.

Wyllow3 Tue 08-Oct-24 15:28:44

Sorry if I wasn't clear. No free rides for serious offences like this.
By saying "no evidence' I was referring to there being no evidence time wise of deliberate slowing down by CPS of prosecution.

Police Federation:

"Last year, there were 50,259 assaults on UK police officers – 40,330 in England and Wales, 6,657 in Scotland, and 3,272 in Northern Ireland. That equates to one officer being assaulted every 10 minutes.13 Mar 2024"

Everybody seems to be missing the fact that a police officer kicked the perpetrator in the head, this is not acceptable and is also a serious offence. The officer was suspended and an inquiry had to take place. The two men employed a dodgy lawyer who took it upon himself to hold a press conference and a complaint about a second police officer was made so another inquiry had to take place. The lawyer clearly knows the system and is playing for all it is worth with delaying tactics. If the police officer had behaved properly it would be an open and shut case. Farage is using this case to support the claim that there is a two tier system of justice which is a populist and racist view very prevalent on platforms such as X and I didn’t expect to see that view being pushed on here.

These men were arrested, charged and sent to prison for their behaviour during the riots. Strange that there was no backlash or riots.
