This clip is just terrifying- how will this 'purge' take place. Here is a link to his rally speech in Pennsylvania where he says there will be a truly nast purge.

The USA is heavily reliant on cheap immigrant labour, in so so many sectors.

They are indeed, that’s the irony. They always have been! When we lived in California back in the mid 70’s almost all domestic staff, care workers, Road sweepers etc were either Latino or Mexican.

Allira - yes, it was I who objected to the phrase. I still do. I understand that others are happy with this level of debate find it necessary to refer to me as the " thread police ".

Hardly “debate” 😂😂😂😂

Trump had a high number of votes from Catholic Latinos due to their not believing in abortions and they are the people Trump is going to deport first ! How stupid of them !

Those that voted are already citizens, once migrants are settled they don’t want more migrants taking their jobs.

It’s fine to feel disappointed about the result of any democratic election but not to feel it isn’t ‘your country

Oreo that’s your opinion, but that is how I felt after the Brexit referendum, and still do feel to a certain extent.

Please don’t tell me that my feelings ‘aren’t fine’.

@lizzie I felt like a woman without a country after Brexit, after seeing how anger and hostility/hatred against immigrants/foreigners was stoked for the sake winning a referendum. It wasn’t the country I had felt previously proud of and like you I still feel that way to sone extent.
Others can call me out for that but it is the way I feel. And am sure many Americans feel that way too.

I too feel that the country I used to know has gone Our feelings are as worthy as anyone else's!

Me too sad

Hiraeth Wed 06-Nov-24 18:45:08

Why do you think more migrantts are taking their jobs ?

Perhaps instead of saying not fine I should have said not logical.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:47:22

If we hadn’t left the EU the ones who voted may have felt it wasn’t their country, see how illogical that is?

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:48:58

Because it is a different country. A mean spirited, grabby, greedy , racist place. Full of narrow minded bigots.

No resemblance to what we once had and valued.

When was that, 1524?

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 18:49:49

not illogical at all- just shows how very divided the country was, and how many lies were told.

If you believe in democracy, you have to accept that the vast majority now believe that Brexit was a big mistake.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:50:55

I guess it’s human nature to be aggrieved and think the other side is wrong with anything like an election.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:52:34

I don’t have to accept anything of the kind Fleurpepper
It wasn’t my choice to leave the EU but I accept that more people voted to leave than to stay.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:53:48

In any case that ship sailed eight years ago.

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 18:54:04

Thinking is one thing - but the FACTS are facts. Brexit has caused massive damage to the country, and this has been proven beyond any doubt.

It’s not illogical at all!

I feel this country changed forever when the Brexit vote was won on the back of lies, covert racism and misinformation.

I’m simply not proud to be British when I hear how some of my fellow Brits speak about those of different nationalities and somehow believe being white British makes them somehow superior.

People who describe fellow humans as “illegals”, who make assumptions about people’s criminal intent and tar whole cohorts as the same, ie All Moslems are ISIS, etc etc. Shameful!

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:55:58

I expect this is your chosen hobby horse Fleurpepper but I couldn’t care less and nothing has changed for me in the last eight years.

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 18:56:41

Exactly, 8 years ago. Demographics have changed, young people have realised how nonsensical it was to not vote, and the figures are clear re the massive damage. With the vast majority now clearly saying that Brexit has been very damaging, democracy requires for those majority opinions to be respected, and without lies or outside interference.

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 18:57:25

Cossy do you realise how low the racism is here compared with many countries in Europe?

We spent time in Steamboat Colorado about 20 years ago. The then Maire and his friends were congratulating themselves on getting rid of all 'illegal hispanics'- and then the ski season started. There was no-one to clean the hôtels and condos, no-one to work the lifts or prepare the pistes, no-one to work in restaurants, etc, etc, and the season was a disaster. The locals didn't want those jobs!

Rings a bell?

That doesn’t make it ok?

Because other countries are more racist than us doesn’t affect me in the slightest.

It’s not a race to the bottom!

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 19:03:46

What country has literally no racism at all?

Oreo Wed 06-Nov-24 19:05:49

I don’t think everyone realises how liberal and overall non racist the UK is in their determination to wear a hair shirt.

So much hand wringing and angst when it will all be forgotten by the weekend 🤷‍♀️

... yeah, I guess you're right. Just like sports fans who mull over the latest game their team won or lost - and mostly forgotten about when they go back to work on Monday. Kind of thing? hmm

You do realise that Trump first has to be sworn-in, and that his victory is quite literally just the very beginning of a process, a reign, that is going to affect a lot of American's lives; not only that but it will also affect the balance of power in the world which is quite important to a whole lot of people in - well, in the world, in fact?

Its not unusual to analyse major world events, for that very reason. Though obviously, you see it differently.

I just cant believe ANYONE cellebrating the disaster of Trump. He will now be able to cancel himself from being a convicted felon for starters. I really feel sickened.

Memories seem short what Trump was like first time round...rule by tweet at all hours of the night...drinking bleach...attempts to cheat by requesting votes in Georgia, never mind death by insurrection at the Capitol, where he was prepared to throw Pence under a bus because Pence dared to disagree.
He's perfectly capable of repeating his petty jealousies and those crazy thoughts - with more power than ever, the backing of Musk, who controls X.

He doesn't believe in Climate Change - he will be a dictator and they are very dangerous (from whatever political background)
He's not going to touch gun control, his answer to school shootings and even his own attempted assassination means "bring on more guns".

I'm shocked by the morality of Musk spending well over 75 million dollars to help win an election, when people cant get basic medical care.

Wyllow ...

Of course Bill Gates did exactly the same for the KH campaign.
To the tune of 50 million.
If she had won would his money be given to the people for medical care? No of course not, it was given to support the campaign.
As is the case in all campaigns.

Cossy do you realise how low the racism is here compared with many countries in Europe?

You are right.

Last year euronews talked about a report by an European agency that highlighted 'shameful' levels of racism in Europe.

Many member-states were indicted - including the ones we frequently talk about as being more-equal and egalitarian societies.

The worst 'results' of the survey / report were in Austria and Germany. Where far-right parties surged in the polls.

... and I believe that's almost exactly what's happening here.
