So much hand wringing and angst when it will all be forgotten by the weekend 🤷‍♀️

I very much doubt it.

I feel anti-Brexit like vibes from some.

If we hadn’t left the EU the ones who voted may have felt it wasn’t their country, see how illogical that is?

It’s not illogical at all!

I feel this country changed forever when the Brexit vote was won on the back of lies, covert racism and misinformation.

I’m simply not proud to be British when I hear how some of my fellow Brits speak about those of different nationalities and somehow believe being white British makes them somehow superior.

People who describe fellow humans as “illegals”, who make assumptions about people’s criminal intent and tar whole cohorts as the same, ie All Moslems are ISIS, etc etc. Shameful!

It empowered many people. But not in a good way. As has happened in America today.

It seems a fairly even vote - some people must like his policies.

Yes Bill Gates gave money to KH but I look forward to the day when Elon Musk does what Bill and Melinda Gates do:

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a private philanthropic foundation that supports a variety of charities and causes, including:
Global health
The foundation works to improve health in developing countries and to eliminate neglected tropical diseases.
Education
The foundation works to ensure that all people have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life.
Digital financial tools
The foundation works to improve access to digital financial tools.
Women's leadership
The foundation supports women's leadership through the Co-Impact Gender Fund.
Tribal communities
The foundation supports the health and nutrition of tribal communities in India through Anamaya.
Poverty in the United States
The foundation supports people living in poverty in the United States through Blue Meridian Partners.
Agricultural science
The foundation partners with the Rockefeller Foundation to enhance agricultural science and small-farm productivity in Africa.
Cashew industry
The foundation donated $25 million to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) to help develop Africa's cashew industry.
The foundation was established in 2000 when the William H. Gates Foundation merged with two other Gates foundations. The foundation's co-chairs are Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, and its CEO is Mark Suzman.
The foundation also supports organizations and projects through Gates Philanthropy Partners. Some of these organizations and projects include:
UNICEF
OneGoal
SEWA Bharat
BRAC USA
GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance
Washington University in St. Louis

Listening to Trump rambling on talking about himself just now only confirms my concern for the USA and the World. I wish you well America with your choice.

Omg Tanith his whole family on that stage …..🙄 And his mammoth rambling about a rocket & his good friend Elon ….i mean let’s just say the US has a demented power crazy President elect , who also just happens to be best friends with THE richest man in the world . That alone can only spell trouble !
All the money 💰 thrown at the electioneering , money being thrown at voters … a true true fai campaign in every way 🤫

I love Macron’s congratulatory tweet to Trump:

“Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump. Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”

Clever use of the word ‘convictions’ there! Macron speaks perfect English so it clearly wasn’t something ‘lost in translation’.

Tres bien Macron!

The electorate have had their say, it is their decision.

Whether or not GN members agree with them is not going to change anything.

Name calling is not the answer, whatever side of the pond it occurs.

For what it’s worth I think Donald Trump won this election the day he was shot at the rally.

Grannygravy13
It’s crazy but I think entirely possible- he strutted around like a prize bull afterwards , enjoying his moment. A stupendous victorious moment at that 🤪

Trump won on the back of his defiance after the failed assassination attempt not so long ago. The man was remarkable in the circumstances. The photo opportunity was iconic.

escaped Thu 07-Nov-24 08:05:59

Yes, it's funny, but isn't it actually the same word in French, so no translation as such?
It means, quelqu'un qui croit fermement à la vérité de ce qu'il pense. Someone who believes strongly in the truth of his thinking. Seems logical.
Macron wouldn't want to associate himself with guilt of the other sort!

Just about sums it up ….

If Trump goes ahead with his import tariffs this could affect British companies.

Cheryl1959 Thu 07-Nov-24 11:17:47

However now he has yes men around him , there will be no checks & balances ,& Supreme Court has given him the power to press the button as cannot now be held responsible to in court of law for actions when he in power. Jan 6th insurrection will be thrown out for starters & dangerous criminals released.
Plus load court system with yes judges .

Unless he has a major shift of thought process which seems unlikely.

Cateq Thu 07-Nov-24 11:27:40

As far as I’m aware Britain is still part of Europe just not the EU. My concern is the affect on the environment, the world is already showing signs of the impact of fossil fuels and President Elect Trump has already said he’s going to allow oil exploration in Alaska, encourage Fracking and said he doesn’t care about climate change, even his own country has been affected.

J52 Thu 07-Nov-24 11:33:13

If Trump goes ahead with his import tariffs this could affect British companies.

It certainly will. Economists are already predicting higher prices, higher interest rates and little economic growth.
As they say “ when America sneezes, Britain catches a cold”.

Well I’m delighted. 🤩
Congratulations Mr. Trump. You’ve shocked the naysayers.
There will be howls now (think Brexit here). Some people only like democracy when their side wins.

There will be NO DEMOCRACY under the egregious Trump he’s an Isolationist Autocrat…( as well as a LOT of other things) you should beware what you wish for…!
