I think the apparent 'swing to the popular Right' is masking what is really happening: it is a safe oblique rejection of gender ideology, with its threat to women, their language and the laws protecting them.
It's why Musk moved from being a democrat to Trump.. because his 16 year old son (now a 20 year old transwoman) was given puberty blockers and hormones against Elon's will but he gave permission under pressure by threats of suicide. He vowed to stop it.
People are sick of it but don't want to be labelled transphobic so tight is the grip of the 'progressive' left. It's affecting sport, childbirth, the law, language itself all orchestrated by a band of elite TransRightsActivist's. That's why Growstuff. The engine of politics is being driven by this area of elite woke-ism and no longer by class. Trump could see this. He is fearless and he saw a massive gap where the lower classes were not being represented at all. So he stepped in. Didn't patronise them, drove a garbage truck when they were called garbage...
(I'd just like people to consider reading the point of view of the young person concerned, all is not quite what it seems in your post. Musk has had 12 children by 3 women and is far from the ideal father he likes to paint himself. )

The huge concerns over womens health rights in the USA has very little to do with "wokeism" and everything to do with control over our own bodies and our healthcare.
You are, imo, making too much of what is happening to a very small group of people.
USA unlikely to accept female President. Needed a strong male candidate against Trump. Too many macho men who feel threatened by intelligent women. Dreading next four years and what USA will do to Europe and our security.

What Trump says he will do.
Trump has vowed to sack "within two seconds" of taking office the veteran prosecutor leading two criminal investigations against him.
Special Counsel Jack Smith has indicted Trump over alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, and ....
Etc
How is it upholding justice to do this, justice is such an important part of a civilised.socoety
The news took.me.by surprise as my American friends have kept me up to date on what he was doing.

Well I’m delighted. 🤩
Congratulations Mr. Trump. You’ve shocked the naysayers.
There will be howls now (think Brexit here). Some people only like democracy when their side wins.
Well said!

He had to win to stop himself going to prison. I still can’t believe that American law has allowed him to do so.
As a Brit it is patronising to insult the American electorate. I hate it when other nations mock and deride the UK government. Who do we think we are? I think the US poor and marginalised are fed up of being told what they need hence so many black and latino citizens switched to the GOP and Trump. I can't abide the man from what I see and hear of him- but obviously millions of Americans believe he will deliver. It's a democracy folks! Respect the voters.
How about the disabled?
“Former President and current Republican nominee Donald Trump has been accused of once saying that it may be better for people living with serious disabilities to “just die.” The startling revelation was laid out in a new book authored by Trump’s nephew Fred Trump III the son of the former President’s older brother Fred Trump Jr who passed away in 1981.
In the tell-all memoir entitled All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got this Way which was released on Tuesday Fred Trump recounts a meeting with his uncle and other family members during his presidency in which they discussed disabled people’s healthcare partly based on Fred Trump’s own experiences with his severely disabled son William. William has cerebral palsy and requires round-the-clock care costing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Though Fred noted that his uncle appeared “engaged” during the meeting he went on to say that the then President remarked to him after it had finished that “maybe those kinds of people should just die” bearing in mind “the shape they're in' and 'all the expenses.”

They seem to have a weird and somewhat outdated justice system over there, from what I can make out.
Their Supreme Court or whatever it is called, seems to be controlled by Politics - that is not proper justice. Which ever side has the most people out of 9, wins, so to speak.
They seem equally bad on this point. Whichever side gets the most power.
And they still have the Death Penalty.

I also find that some go merely by the media.
So miss some points.
I myself for instance, did not know that their standard of living had fallen.
Two or three posters who actually have relatives living in the US, have posted that, either on this thread or another.
And. There was a US commentator last night on it may have been GB News? Cant remember. CNN?
Said that Trump had made a comeback, and she wouldnt be suprised if Boris did too, in the same way!
Obviously I could be proved wrong, but I so really doubt that that will happen.
Sometimes, or often, living in a Country is quite different from just hearing about it.
Has everyone forgotten the time he openly mocked a disabled reporter? How anyone could vote him after that was beyond me, never mind anything else.
And we're entitled to comment on the result, considering that it will have repercussions for the whole world, not just the USA.
But Anthony Scaramucci who lives and works in America pretty much feels the same way as I do about Trump. And he knows him quite well having worked with him. Until his wife told him she would divorce him because of it. Trump was incredibly rude to her I believe.

Yes. The Media is unbelievably manipulative. People read the papers and watch the News to suit their own agenda.
I have decided to cut down my news intake. Better for your mental health.

I remember. Just as I remember his he incited his supporters to descend on Capitol Hill after the last election when 6 people were killed. I also remember how many times he was indicted for various crimes but managed to swerve jail time. And that is without the many racist and sexist remarks he has made, including the time he said immigrants were eating people’s pets!!
And of course he made Islamophobic remarks about Sadiq Khan.
But Starmer and Lanmy need to apologise??
Hah!! There is the irony!!
I genuinely cannot fathom how anyone could bring themselves to vote for him.
Because they believe all Politicians are the same! So you vote for the one who promises what you want. All Trump voters cared about was improving their own personal lot in life. Very easy to understand.
Agree with all thats said about Trump. But leave the voters alone.

... if only it were as simple as howling because one side's team lost against the other's.
Globalisation means our economies are all inter-connected, but you already know that.
As for democracy; money talks to money, wealth is power, which can override the niceties of democracy when it suits.
I think the voters are like many other voters sick and tired of empty promises/lies, and they see someone like Trump as anti-establishment, and against liberal left wing politics that they feel threatens their values.
Of course they are just being conned again, because Trump is ‘the establishment’ indeed he managed to swerve jail because of the power and influence he has, so hardly a ‘man of the people’ who would have been sentenced to jail by the establishment.
And the liberal left has no real sway in the US, indeed even the Democrats are ‘centre right’ in their politics, fact is most Americans live a far more traditional and conservative life than Europeans, so all the hoohah about WOKE and trans rights is just that - hoohah, or to coin another phrase ‘scaremongering’.
As for standing up for working people, Trump cannot reverse the fortunes of the rust belt, cannot produce jobs out of thin air, and cannot improve the lives of those festering in small towns with no opportunities unless he becomes radically left wing and redistributes wealth in the US. Which will never happen.
So he blames immigrants. A no brainer. Go for a soft target, a bunch of powerless people rather than blaming the powerful.
Is a template for politicians who have nothing concrete to offer in the way of workable policies.

Does Trump have brownshirt stormtroopers and lock up and torture people and confiscate their homes and property? I thought that was more Putin, or Xi or Kim il Jong line
well, his plans for so called illegal immigrants, and their families, be it granma, or the children born on USA soil and therefore USA citizens- come close. But not for Musk, or for Melania and family!
The cost (never mind the pain) will be huge, in achieving this, and the result of so many sectors of the economy, agriculture, hospitality and cleaning, hospitals and care, and so much more.

The lady in the video has lived and worked, paid taxes, for almost a life-time. Elon Musk lived for many many years as an illegal immigrant, born in South AFrica, emigrated to Canada, and came on a temporary basis to the USA on student visa, and stayed. No-one knows how he managed to become a USA citizen- probably large sums of money 'under the table'.

So much hand wringing and angst when it will all be forgotten by the weekend 🤷♀️
I very much doubt it.
I feel anti-Brexit like vibes from some.
Well course, as it is entirely relevant here. The elephant in the room has just got much much bigger!

Why? They're the ones voting him into power.
Nope.
If you pretend men are women a large slice of the electorate laugh at you.
Another part of the electorate think that gender ideology is deeply sexist and homophobic.
Another part think if you lie about that, how can you be trusted on housing, education, etc.
Many European countries including ours have much stricter rules on transition for children than America.
