...But Starmer and Lanmy need to apologise??

Boris Johnson once made a damning observation about Trump - quite rude in fact - which ended (I can't remember the exact phrase) with the conclusion that Trump was not fit to be President.

I wonder if the same people who expect Starmer and Lammy to apologise also asked the same of Johnson?

Has everyone forgotten the time he openly mocked a disabled reporter? How anyone could vote him after that was beyond me, never mind anything else.
And we're entitled to comment on the result, considering that it will have repercussions for the whole world, not just the USA.

I remember. Just as I remember his he incited his supporters to descend on Capitol Hill after the last election when 6 people were killed. I also remember how many times he was indicted for various crimes but managed to swerve jail time. And that is without the many racist and sexist remarks he has made, including the time he said immigrants were eating people’s pets!!
And of course he made Islamophobic remarks about Sadiq Khan.
But Starmer and Lanmy need to apologise??
Hah!! There is the irony!!

And he implied that a lady reporter who questioned him was on her period. And that soldiers injured in battle were losers; he himself being a draft dodger. And yet women and ex soldiers vote for him.

I voted for Trump and the Republicans. What a wonderful victory!! I am not a fan of his, but we had no other choice. The last 4 years have been dreadful under Biden and Harris.

Thank you.

That is exactly what I am hearing from friends and extended family members in the USA.

People vote to better off financially. not for higher food prices, fuel costs and job insecurity.

It was the case of the better of two evils.

MissInterpreted Thu 07-Nov-24 16:21:57

If Trump is the better of two evils then the world is well and truly f*****!

Galaxy Thu 07-Nov-24 16:23:25

Its the economy.
And that what the Democrats and to some extent the media thought were important issues, just weren't that important to people.

Arto1s Thu 07-Nov-24 16:36:13

So true Galaxy

For goodness sake, why do we not ask WHY he has been elected? All the self-righteous, patronising remarks serve to emphasise that a certain section - over half, seemingly, of Americans - do not feel they have a voice and they are treated like dirt, called fascist, racist etc. by the woke brigade even told they are 'disgusting' (MissInterpreted, that last epithet is yours!). So Trump says he will be their 'voice' and they want to believe him - same as most of us want to believe our favourite party. Until everyone gets listened to with respect, until we can have tolerance, openness and equality for all, including those who do not agree with us, we will continue to have these stupid political situations, and these highly questionable people governing us.

yellowfox Thu 07-Nov-24 16:44:10

Oh well, it makes a change to have have a go at someone else instead of bashing our own politicians.

undines Thu 07-Nov-24 16:44:40

MissInterpreted, Trump is not the only politician to have said vile things. Wes Streeting, for instance, tweeted that he would like to push Jan Moir under a train. (This was a while back, in 2009). Mostly we are governed by psychopaths because they are the only ones ruthless and nasty enough to push their way to the top. If we hurl our own insults we do not help the picture.

Saying vile things is one thing - being a convicted felon is something else altogether. And yes, I am disgusted that anyone could vote for him - and I refuse to apologise for that. His policies terrify me. And I especially despair for the women and minorities of America.

There is a saying…….” go woke go broke”
It’s so true.
Trump had declared today that the USA has only two genders male and female.
His speech on this matter was excellent.

All our friends and extended family in the USA are distraught, shocked, in tears and even truly scared. And they are all well off but want a fairer and more open country.

ronib Thu 07-Nov-24 18:54:29

Fleurpepper yes we’re in the same boat here. Certainly we want a fairer society but please why does it need to be open? Open in what way? Closed might be better?

Interesting reply- but I do not understand what you mean exactly. I mean open to those who are different from us, in so many ways, open to positive immigration, which we need to replace an ageing population, and in so many other ways. What do you mean by 'closed might be better'?

As for friends, I shall repost here the stats about who voted for whom (as they look very similar to who voted for what in 2016)

Fleurpepper numbers of incomers/migrants need to have an element of control by any host country, imo.

Maremia Thu 07-Nov-24 19:17:44

Dear Trump Cheerleaders, just what was it the the serial cheating, draft dodging, hero mocking, convicted felon had over his opponent? Was it that he wasn't a black woman? Can females be misogynistic too?

Fleurpepper Thu 07-Nov-24 19:19:08

Well, yes. And yet, with a declining population no longer replacing itself, and a large increase in older people on pensions that live much longer, that need to be paid for, as well as health issues, etc- one could argue that immigration is key to success in so many ways.

Ask the 52% of US voters.

No point asking most people on GN.

Apparently it was largely to do with the US economy.
Money wins over most things for many. Including principles sometimes.
Eating is important.

People in the US and here seem to think[and have done for decades] that right wing Politicans are better with finances for the economy, than the left wing Politicans.

Oh yes- it is just incredible to see so many women flocking to Trump. It is just unfathomable, and yet.

And all over the world, immigrants who have found their feet where they have moved to- become even more anti-immigration than others. In France, huge numbers of Lepen supporters are secondos and thirdos from Italy, Spain and elsewere. And same all over. Remember reading 'a view from the bridge' by Arthur Miller. Italian immigrants really denigrating a new wage of Italian immigrants in New York.

I had a cousin who was part Navaho and part Italian, from Naples- poorest of the poor- married to a third generation Swiss and German immigrant. They were racist in the extreme and would have voted for Trump had they not both died a couple of years back. The things they said about Obama and Michelle were truly awful- and we quietly cut ties with them.

There we have it, replacement. Just what Blair and his globalist mates want for Western countries.

Mr Trump will be a dictator. Mr Trump already is a fascist.

This is the nub of it. Thius is why it's not a case of "not liking" him or one / another of his policies. Don't be complacent, it happened in Nazi Germany, the signs were there but no-one believed until too late that Hitler could become dictator.
