I get name called so often because I happen to support Farage & Trump.

Fortunately for me the moderators have decided I’m allowed an opinion. It’s no good shutting down debate just because some posters hold differing opinions.

Life and discussion forums would be boring if we all agreed surely? A virtual echo chamber ….

I don’t really understand why you support these folks, but it is your right to do so, and long may that last!

Whoever the UK has in govt., has never stated some of the horrifying things some other countries leaders have and I’m grateful we can have our own views, beliefs and moral compass and free to express them.

This thread is NOT about people disagreeing with the election outcome.

It is about the very real threats made to journalists by President Elect Donald Trump and, as a consequence of these threats, journalists feeling afraid to speak truth to power.

I can’t put it any more simply than that … for the hard of thinking! 👋

I agree. The problem comes when we pile on in a personal way. Probably better not to call other's view rubbish or OTT but dispute on facts when we can establish them.

I have read the entire thread and there are posts questioning the electorate who voted for POTUS Trump.

(Whilst DT is President Elect his correct title is POTUS Trump, the same as all past US Presidents, it is a sign of respect to the position of President)

I don’t think it’s anything to do with people being ‘ proud lefties’ or ‘proud righties’ for that matter it’s about The Guardian offering counselling and support to journalists over the DT win. Other newspapers and most good sized businesses offer counselling for mental health issues / bereavement/ and so on but not as far as we know cos the President of the US is not our choice.
It makes some of us think that counselling has gone down a rabbit hole when it should be offered for serious things.
Otherwise we’ll become timid beings needing milk and cookies and hand holding for anything we don’t like or agree with.
Counselling has its place in society but not for any mortal thing.

We are a very divided society. Some are distressed and frightened because Trump has been elected. Some are happy and are rejoicing. We see it here. It is a dangerous thing. Most people think they are good people and are in the right. They can then come to see people on the other side as less than human and people can do terrible things to each other.

There’s middle ground tho, I was disappointed at the DT win even if I saw it coming ages ago but don’t go around wringing my hands or being frightened.I suspect most people here fall into that category.

I do not intend to get in a my feelings are more hurt than yours spat as it is pointless.

We are grown ups, we have different views, mine are different from some and the same as some.

I do not and would never assert my views are correct or better and more valid than any one else’s, they are at times just different!

I have no need to get on my high horse (actually he is in his stable warm and cosy) over an election in a foreign country.

No eazybee there’s been no attempt by the mods to shut down this discussion. Which is good. Shows they are allowing robust debate - providing it is respectful which I always am. I have never once used a derogatory term about ANY poster. Ever.

This seems reasonable to me. A lot of people are very distressed by the result, I am, because I've followed Trump for years, feel the hatred and violence and threats that have come out from him and some of his followers, and I've appreciated being able to "talk about it".

Pp.s. Those posters who say they feel offended have left this discussion which is fair enough. Others, who feel differently, continue however. That’s surely the essence of a GN debate - otherwise, why bother? Not all of us knit, sew, craft, garden, bake cakes. GN has a forum for everyone’s tastes. Mine happens to be N&P.

I think the reason for the comment 'the hard of thinking'. Is the fact that people like yourself are ignoring Lizzie Dripping who has said that this isn't just about the election. It's the death threats against journalists. I've also pointed out that a victim of rape, I am stressed abouta convicted sex offender being POTUS.
