Amsterdam attacks

I'm so sickened by the attacks on Israeli football fans in Amsterdam. Shades of Nazi Germany.

A worrying and disgusting trajectory of anti Semitism in Europe.

Anniebach Sat 09-Nov-24 09:59:03

The mayor would have been fully informed, he said antisemitism

Oreo Sat 09-Nov-24 09:59:22

It was hatred of Jews who live in Israel but could very easily spill over, if it hasn’t already, end up in any Dutch Jews being targeted.Jews in London have had to be careful all last year.

Whitewavemark2 you seem to be tying yourself up in knots in an effort to get round the truth of the matter of what happened in Amsterdam.
It was hatred of Jews pure and simple^

But you don't know that do you? How do you know it wasn't hatred of Israel?

I'm on a train to London, so haven't time to check back, but I'm sure it was mentioned that Palestinian groups were organising these Amsterdam attacks well ahead of the match. The language they used was not, "let's have a punch up with the opposing side's football fans", but it was "let's attack The Jews". There is a big difference.

Well worth repeating especially today the 9th November remembering Kristallnacht.

Don’t be naive anyone, this was not muddling football culture with antisemitism. Did Dutch Palestinian supporters go after other visiting football fans in this way? No they didn’t.
Excuses won’t wash.

This.

Of course it was.
It’s reported that many of the attackers arrived on motor scooters, suddenly appearing out of alleyways. Tactics learnt from Hamas, who also arrived on motor scooters and trucks.

The Mayor says that taxi drivers were involved and drove and cornered Israeli fans.

Oreo Sat 09-Nov-24 11:18:53

Also on scooters of course.

Oreo Sat 09-Nov-24 11:20:03

It was a pre planned attack.

Are they so thick, then, that they cannot separate Jewish football fans from their country's government?

Of course it was anti-semitism.

It was a pre planned attack.

By the Israeli 'fans' it seems.

There's a video here made by a young Dutch reporter. He shows events after the match. One thing for certain, there is no-one attacking the Israeli fans. but they look well organised.

Judge for yourselves. It's about 20 minutes long. English sub titles.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySHIOYyJ95A

I think the Dutch police did well to contain them, BTW.

Oreo Sat 09-Nov-24 18:47:37

You’re flying in the face of what Dutch police and the Mayor of Amsterdam say MazieD
It was organised by Dutch Pro Palestinian supporters, there’s evidence for it.Was the young Dutch reporter a real reporter or a Pro Palestinian? Taxis and young men on scooters had pre planned an attack and it was the Dutch not the Israelis.
I did expect some antisemitism to show up on here but not by somebody saying an out and out lie such as it was pre planned as an attack by the Israelis.
The random group attacks by the Dutch took place all over the city centre not just in one place.
Please read the apologies by the Mayor and the King.

Oreo Sat 09-Nov-24 19:00:25

Incidentally I did watch it, a 13 year old kid not a reporter!
Even he says some Israeli fans are arming themselves with metal poles from a construction site for their own protection.
He also says a taxi drove into the fans. The rest of the Israeli fans are doing nothing more than walking into the distance at that point.
I would suggest reading what police dealt with, the injuries and the footage of some of the attacks on fans doing nothing by the Dutch.

Anniebach Sat 09-Nov-24 20:48:39

A child in a video on uTube, this is mocking a terrifying
attack ,

Wyllow3 Sat 09-Nov-24 21:49:13

I've ben waiting for a summary of events to come out and timeline to understand what went on. This report includes a video and full details.

MaizieD Sat 09-Nov-24 22:47:01

How ludicrous. A large gang of Israeli football fans had to run round the streets of Amsterdam 'arming themselves for their own protection'. What planet are some people on?

Why didn't they go back to their nice safe hotel where no-one was likely to attack them and have a few drinks to console themselves for losing the game.

Where, in that video, did we see anyone threatening or attacking that 'armed for their own protection' mob? Why would they be threatening the police and throwing stones at them? Surely the police would be protecting them.

The age of the commentator is irrelevant. What is relevant is what was being filmed.

And how nasty to imply that a 13 yr old Dutch boy would be biased in one way or the other. Did he show any overt bias in what he was saying?

The police Commissioner for Amsterdam seemed very clear in the clip of his press conference that I saw, that the trouble was initiated by the Israeli 'fans'. And what was Mossad doing there?

Anniebach Sat 09-Nov-24 23:05:13

Politics will come into play

madalene Sun 10-Nov-24 01:09:19

Why was a thirteen year old child pretending to be a journalist, and who set him up to do this stunt?

Anniebach Sun 10-Nov-24 02:51:31

Obviously the video was a stunt so it wouldn’t show the Israeli
fans being attacked

Anniebach Sun 10-Nov-24 04:57:26

On Thursday night, a terrible echo of the “Jew hunts” that took place during the German occupation played out just a few hundred yards from Anne Frank’s House as Israeli football fans were pursued through the streets and attacked.
The parallels were too obvious to ignore, prompting the Dutch king to say his country had failed Jewish people just as it did during the Second World War.

The Telegraph

Yet still our government is allowing pro-Palestinian marches on the streets of Britain. There is one planned for today (Remembrance Sunday). It's an utter disgrace! Starmer may be the Prime Minister of the UK but he certainly isn't put its people first.

Anniebach Sun 10-Nov-24 06:12:14

The London Mayor could speak out

I know nothing about him, but it appears he frequently walks round as a journalist taking videos to show the opposite angle put out by mainstream news outlets. Where there's any demonstration, he shows up with his microphone. He is known in Amsterdam for this, Bender is his name. He interviews people who can offer the slant he wants to get across. Maybe it's a contrived stunt, maybe he actually uncovers some truth, I don't know, but at 13 years old he can hardly be considered an experienced reporter.

👏 👏
Protests are banned in France. That's why the Olympic Games passed without incident for weeks this summer. That's why France is currently a feelgood nation. Without being romantic, you actually notice it in the air in Paris and elsewhere. Macron gets tough, the police actually intervene if there's trouble. I wish Starmer would take a leaf out of France's book.
