There is no page Trump and I would be on with regard to policies, or with regard to anything else.

Grantanow Fri 08-Nov-24 23:29:09

I doubt that matters.

Whilst it's all pretty grimto me - there's nothing new.

No, but those who feel this is a foreign election and nothing to do with us need to look again and realise much of what Trump proposes will have negative effects on us all

Totally disagree, this is perfectly new. A convicted felon has never been elected before.

This man explains so well in his 'speech' here, why this is very new, and has never happened before.

What I feel too.
Most of us would have been happier with a Democrat win but nothing to be gained by doom laden predictions of what will happen.

Exactly this.

Absolutely- this inward looking tendency is what got Trumpmusk elected and what led to Brexit. It is a very destructive kind of new world order that leads to suspicion of the 'other' and caring only about oneself.

Moral bankruptcy.

It's quite hard to read the whole article and pick out a main talking point. Its clear that people will suffer healthcare wise: both womens health and more generally, more and more people have no healthcare at all except charity: its clear that "drill baby drill" and the abandonment of climate care targets will have a long term impact: its clear that Ukraine is likely to suffer. The idea of a mass return of migrants, what, round people up and dump them the other side of the Mexican border? Unclear.
However what I've picked out is what I consider the real dangers to democracy, that is the cutting and dismantling of a neutral civil service, and a non political justice system, to be re placed by political appointees, including that the FBI is likely to lose its political neutrality.
In other words, the slow establishment of a dictatorship style governance in many areas of political life.

Trump and I are on the same page with regard to:-

Putting your own country first and restrictin the amount of money flowing out to third world causes.

Restricting immigration and being hard on those who enter illegally.

Wyllow3 Sat 09-Nov-24 11:53:06

The biggest recipient from the Foreign Aid budget goes to Israel, biglouis. Do you think the US should cut this?

Wyllow3 Sat 09-Nov-24 12:00:07

And currently, Ukraine of course. some of the aid does go simply to alleviate starvation, but most of it has "strings attached", ie the recipients will act in the interests of the US government.

madalene Sat 09-Nov-24 12:00:45

it’s clear Ukraine will suffer

This is my worry.

Exactly.

Americans are living with high cost of living, housing shortage, exceedingly low wages, 11m undocumented immigrants, 8% of the population with no health insurance. Theirs to solve. We've our own grim reality.

Indeed, I agree.

Being “hard” on those who enter by illegal means.

Could you just outline to us what legal means Asylum Seekers can enter the UK in order to claim Asylum?

In particular from countries like Syria and Afghanistan ?

Skydancer Sat 09-Nov-24 13:34:59

I agree that people can’t just cross the border into another country and expect to be looked after. That’s about all.

Of course.

There are 11m undocumented in USA - not paying into their system (which is different to ours, they pay as a family unit - not individually). Certainly those 11m people should have no expectations. Even health care - theirs is different to ours. Only 92% of Americans have health insurance - undocumented do not.

I agree, and we won’t be helped by the contributions made by Starmer and Lammy and the actions of some Labour supporters, when he’s looking the supposed Special Relationship

Wyllow3 Sat 09-Nov-24 14:29:03

What benefits do we currently have from this "Special Relationship" will be threatened?

Do we actually think that the US will for example, withdraw troops from bases in the UK? (No, they won't want to withdraw from this strategic position in Europe for their armed drone operations? Withdraw from strategic counter terror operations?

There are legal ways to come from both of those countries, 4 ways in fact. Easily looked up. Those that have the money just jump the queue, from a non war torn country, the EU.

petra Sat 09-Nov-24 15:14:13

I think something must have a cunning plan because if Trump follows through with his immigration plan it could be a true scenario of the Film A day without a Mexican
The plot is that one day a mist comes down over California and all the migrant workers disappear.
Extremely funny with a very dark meaning.

Mollygo Sat 09-Nov-24 15:38:18

Since I don’t believe the special relationship is anything but meaningless words, how can I tell?
They’re words often spoken by politicians and would undoubtedly have been reiterated if Trump had lost.
But any possible value of those words would not be supported by the actions of LP supporters and the words of Lammy and Starmer.
But then Starmer already made it clear that he doesn’t rate people over a certain age in politics.

biglouis Sat 09-Nov-24 15:55:45

In Trumps place I would stop all aid to both countries and force that annoying little comedian In Ukraine to concede. As for Israel they have committed international genocide. Yeah, they lost about 1000 to Hamas but they have killed 46000 (or more) mostly civillians. I would leave them to their fate and allow Hezbollah/Iran to invade.

I also support his idea of mass deportations and detention camps. But I doubt he will go that far. Pity.
