Is Queen Camilla more poorly than we think?

She wasn’t well enough to attend the Remembrance Service. Now it’s been confirmed that she will not be going to the Royal Variety Performance tonight. (Not that I blame her, I’d duck it too if it was on my itinerary). However these engagements are 3 weeks apart. It got me wondering. I hope she’s okay.

I love this old clip of Camilla and Charles with Dame Edna at a Royal Variety Performance. C and C in fits. 🤣

hilarious ...

paddyann never misses a chance to take a swipe at the Royals, regardless of whatever else is happening.

As others have said, don’t read the threads or comment on them if it annoys you.

I feel a discussion about the RF wouldn’t be the same without paddyanne’s rather predictable outpourings. I don’t take them at all seriously and a watered down version would be a disappointment. 😂

Maybe it was a slow day in Scotland?

Yes, Katherine will be doing her Carol concert.

Don't want to be picky but her name is Catherine.

Isn’t it funny how people who say they don’t want to be picky then go on to be just that!
If you don’t want to be picky, then don’t be!

There is nothing more personal than one's first name and the C/Katherine spelling is one of the touchiest of them old.

We have Catherine's in our family. It comes down the Irish side andd we get very picky if anyone spells our name the English way with a K. Irish Catherine's always use a C, or so we believe.

I have what I have been told is the Irish version of Catherine, but it is spelt the English way with a K.My paternal grandmother who had Irish blood chose it, but my mother, who registered me, spelt it the English way.
Like the Princess of Wales I prefer it not to be shortened.

True merlotgran.

There used to be another anti monarchist poster, Grany I think.

Both could be relied on to trash the royals on every occasion.

I don't have a problem with anyone who's less than enamoured with the royal family. What puzzles me is why anyone would go out of their way to waste their time opening a thread, type out their grumble and upload it. Seems like a colossal waste of time and effort to me. As for making mean, spiteful comments about the possible cause of anyone's illness as being self inflicted from smoking; well, that's a whole new level of nastiness that I've fortunately never encountered in real life.

MissAdventure Sat 23-Nov-24 21:40:13

That's one that's been aired before on gransnet.
Just never about a royal.

Nobody is interested in the Rf, but any thread about them always thrives.

The King was not tetchy at his Coronation. Nervous? yes, emotional? Yes, serious? Yes, but not tetchy. How would people expect him to be? Having a little chat to Prince George! Winking at Prince Louis? It was a very solemn occasion which he and Camilla did to perfection. Annie, I'm clearly not the only one who remembers Paddyanns association with the RF! I still find it strange that someone could have had a business arrangement with people they dislike to the point of venom!
Camilla has not smoked for many years and I've certainly not seen any photo since her marriage that shows her with a cigarette. She certainly missed a bullet over the R.V.S! The late Queen had that doubtful pleasure year after weary year, all 70 of them.

Jaberwok such hatred, why ?

You are hurting paddyanne so it’s quite understandable right now that this all seems a nonsense. It’s only a discussion.
Sympathy extended to you and yours.
And I hope your daughter gets a reassuring result.

A very kind response flowers

Excellent reply. Yes, so do I.

Er, is not Camilla hurting too? Husband cancer, step dil cancer? Losing a loved pet?
Why can't there be sympathy for everyone, other than looking for horrible things to say?

escaped Sun 24-Nov-24 09:48:47

I hope everyone is OK, including royalty and any posters on GN.

Jaberwok Sun 24-Nov-24 10:38:30

It is inexplicable Annie. While I totally understand that some people disapprove of the RF for all sorts of reasons, some perfectly valid and would prefer to be under a different system, to be SO vitriolic on a personal level is deeply unpleasant.

Jaberwok Sun 24-Nov-24 10:39:59

After all, it.could be worse, think Putin's Russia, North Korea!!

merlotgran Sun 24-Nov-24 10:55:14

I always liken paddyanne’s RF comments to a fox getting into the hen run. 😂

Calendargirl Sun 24-Nov-24 11:00:32

Well, I beg to differ!

Many of us are. I much prefer reading comments about the Monarchy, good or bad, than some of the topics on GN.

We've all got our crosses to bear.

Many of us have lost loved ones during the last three or four years, some far too young to go. We may have family worries too.

We don't then post vitriolic comments on a thread about a woman who might be going through the same, whoever she is.
Most of us would feel empathy.

It's not a trait everyone possesses, unfortunately.

Nooo, not hens!! You've reminded me ......
Hands up here, I was very disapproving of Meghan and said so. I never wrote with vitriol or malice, just disappointment tinged with irritation for what might have been.
There's been GNs who've criticised celebrities' children's weight, others who belittle the qualifications of showbiz people who have achieved far more than they ever did. GNs who are quick to criticise footballers for very little too.
Is it envy? I don't know. Live and let live.

TopGunner Sun 24-Nov-24 11:10:34

I also wondered if there was more to it because I am in my 80's and when I get ill I do not have the luxury of going to bed and resting, I still have to feed myself and I find that is what gets you back on your feet quicker.

HeavenLeigh Sun 24-Nov-24 11:23:05

I hate to hear of anyone poorly regardless of who they are. But sadly it’s a fact of life it comes to us all.

Grunty Sun 24-Nov-24 11:28:11

Said nobody ever.
