I don't get the analogy about Rod Stewart's song, It's a song, it's not crudely aimed at one specific woman.
You’re right, but if GW had sung/said it, it would have been deemed offensive.

Greg Wallace suspended
(322 Posts)Greg Wallace suspended amid accusations of sexual misconduct.
I actually think his reply to the accusations has probs done far more damage than good.
Men like this are now social dinosaurs and simply refuse to read the room.
Not if he was a pop star.
Theworriedwell, I am the same. I was sexually abused by my brother a couple of times when I was 8. It is not something I’ve ever felt able to tell anyone only online anonymously a few years back. I think as things are revealed women find they can start talking about something that has been buried in the deep recesses of their mind for so long but it is still difficult.
I do think some of his remarks were smutty and crude but not sexual assault. As I’ve already said I can’t stand him but he may not be quite as bad as he is now being portrayed.
The only way to find out is to speak openly about the things he's done.
Not by shaming the women.
He has had 3 allegations of groping as well as what's been said, and it's worth reading an example (this is from when he was on Strictly). I'm not saying every complaint was sexual assault but sexual assault can be verbal as well as physical.

Put me off my breakfast, that has.
He also later said that he would have done better if Aliona had liked him. (They were first out).
He also would have done better if the voting public liked him.
The man's ego is something else!

True-or even if he could dance!
The voting public vote for celebs they know or like. It’s a source of great annoyance on SCD threads.

Surely that's why anything, anything at all to do with inappropriate sexual behaviour needs the fastest, most empathetic systems and responses.
These kinds of things are still rooted in shame, too much to drink.
Should have spoken out.
Must have some way asked for it.
It pees me off that women could respond in that way.
It has to be spoken of, with victims listened to.
I agree. Women can't do right for doing wrong. If they speak out they might be making false allegations. If they don't, they should have spoken out. If they wait for collaboration from others they are jumping on the bandwagon. And what were they wearing? Why were they there (wherever it was) in the first place? Is the man rich, or well-connected? If so, they are probably 'gold-diggers'.
What did the women expect when they went there, wherever it was - an office in the workplace, a nightclub, a hotel room for coffee? Why couldn't she tell that her boss, the man she met on a night out, the colleague at the conference was a potential rapist?
If she reports something short of rape - a grope, an obscene innuendo, sexual remarks, frottage - she is risking the man's reputation, and is probably a man-hater. After all, so much of this is banter and we can't say anything these days.
Still, we can rely on one another for support, can't we?
Oh.
Oh.

Most men tend to joke about sex and the such like and Greg Wallis is no exception, to them it’s just a lot of silly banter . Also , a lot of women go along with this type banter , it’s all just a lot of silly fun and banter as how people tend to be like , they do tend to joke about their sex lives ect ect . I’ve seen many a female laughing at what men joke about , I belong to few groups with men present and they are forever joking about , ok , so they joke about sex , but the women engage with them every time , in fact most women like a man with good sense humour. To say that he went “ topless “ ..how can a man who doesn’t wear a shirt be regarded as “ topless “, what a silly statement .
The women who have accused him are well out of order in my opinion . They no doubt joked with him at the time but then decided to complain about him . For a guy who’s good at his job and have recorded so many tv shows I think these women vengeful now , the poor man is well in the limelight because of a handful of spiteful women who are out to destroy him .
Oh, and just to add, I’m not particularly a fan of Wallis it’s just that I don’t like to see a man’s career and reputation destroyed by a handful of women who , no doubt , took part in his “ jokes “ at the time .
Also , Rod Stuart’s wife was happy to be on Celebrity Masterchef at the time as I’m a big fan of the show and could tell she enjoyed her time being on there . If she really were offended as she makes out the why did she continue being a contestant in the show when she could have bowed out . And for Sir Rod criticism of how Wallis looks like is very insulting as he’s no oil painting either maybe he should look in the mirror .
Wow! You’re a bloke ‘of a certain age’ aren’t you 😡

I’ve always thought him a horrible man. My DH likes to watch Masterchef the Professionals so I can’t avoid it being on. Personally I have never understood what qualifies him to be a judge on this programme as he’s not a chef. However, to be fair, I don’t understand why the women who are complaining about him have taken so long to come forward. Is it a case of jumping on the bandwagon?
One can understand very young women keeping quiet, but such as big names, I do wonder why they kept quiet, Rod Stewart could have stepped in long before now.
Alison Hammond very much into innuendo on Bake Off, as is Prue Leith, should we ban that programme too.
There is gentle innuendo, then there are comments like “is it a surprise for my cock”, or coor” as he put both his hands on the bottom cheeks of a young Technical Assistant.
I never thought I'd agree with anything that MP, ex of J Corbyn, name escapes me, said. Now I do, she said Greg Wallace, Just Doesn't Get It.
So have we yet reached a consensus that it is really the women’s fault and Greg is the victim?
I mean how dare a group of women become all hot under the collar about sexual misconduct? What is the world coming to?
Accordingly we should reinstate Pincher in the Tory party, I mean he was just having a bit of fun when he grabbed a young man’s bottom, and all that sexually explicitly talk was a bit of banter.
Perhaps from now on we should just take any woman’s accusations of sexual misconduct with a pinch of salt….oh hang on….we already do.

Rod Stewart wasn’t the victim. It wasn’t up to him to step in.
I dislike innuendo though it can make me laugh in a pantomime. There’s a huge difference between women using innuendo and men groping/sexually harassing womenActually, if his wife was so upset, it was up to him. My DH did step in to support me when I was upset by something a parent said.
Although anyone who sings a song that says ^If you want my body and you think I'm sexy. . . maybe not. That would be called offensive if GW had said it.
Saying that your career was ruined by GW when actually it might be because you were arrested for assaulting your partner is another strange claim.
He’s been punished, and so has his family. Let it serve as a warning to all those who might use language or actions that are offensive to others.
I hardly know where to start with your ridiculous points. Have you never thought someone was sexy and wanted there body? Maybe you haven’t. That’s a song about fun experiences that people have. It was not something said to a woman in a workplace by an egotistical man in order for him to get off on his power in the situation.
As for “it was up to him (her husband)” because your husband supported you, my husband is always supportive of me, but he would always recognise that it is not up to him to to make decisions on my behalf. A woman who has been sexually harassed, or sexually assaulted should always make her own decisions about whether, or not to report it. It’s a big decision and always has repercussions for the woman concerned.
I could never understand why an ex greengrocer was thought to be the ideal person to critique peoples cookery skills on a cookery show…
I met him once and he was charming, so I was willing to subscribe to the "innocent until proven guilty" theory. However, his subsequent comments just dug the hole deeper rather than smoothing things over so he's his own worst enemy! Had he given his cheeky grin and said that it was meant to be a bit of banter but he obviously misread the signals and was very, very sorry etc etc, he might just have got away with it - silly man let his ego get in the way of common sense!
Dibbydod, words fail me.
I never did like him, in the same way I didn’t like Savil, just something about him. Anyway, I imagine we’ve seen the last of him, I can’t ever see a way back for him. He’s toast. Good.

Indeed. The song is asking the woman to let him know if she fancies him, and to reach out and touch him if she wants to. That's very different from just grabbing her or rubbing against her whether she likes it or not, which is the point that GW and his apologists don't seem to get. Consent is all.
Before all this furore I stopped watching his factory progs as I couldn't be doing with the nasty/patronising/plain rude way he dealt with the staff who were trying to explain their processes while he smirked.
I think it is always wise to believe someone if they say they are offended either by a sexual pest or a racist etc., and not to seek ways to dispute how other people actually feel.
I’m afraid I agree with Didfybod. Yes He probably went too far but for goodness sake a bit of banter is OK. Don’t destroy the man!
You don’t have to understand it DD. I find that song and the singer creepy and yes, I have met him.
