Shocking news this morning. On the tv and in the papers.

Apparently there are over one million migrants living here in the UK who have no right to be here.

600,000 of them are living in London. Just think about that huge number for a moment.

It equates to TEN football stadiums full to capacity in our capital city.

No wonder we’re broke. It’s dispiriting. Our borders are so leaky it’s not worth pretending any more that we have them.

What do you think about this newly released information?

Problem with some anti Trump people on this thread is they think if you want a PM that actually deals with illegal migrants, that you obviously want everyone carrying a gun, women who have a termination killed, and homosexuality banned.
They can’t think further than that.

With Trump or a clone of him, you get the whole package, you can't pick and choose which part of his personality you take. If you vote him into a position of power because he says he will deal with illegal immigrants then you WILL get "everyone carrying a gun, women who have a termination killed, and homosexuality banned." Those are a rough description of his attitudes, and he has shown that he is ready to change any laws that restrict him from taking any action he, as the divinely approved POTS wishes, including those for a presidential election every 4 years and a maximum of two terms per President. Then the route is open for a dictatorship which can only be removed by assassination and replacement with a different dictator.

Anyone who doesn't think that is likely to happen in a civilised country like the USA or the UK, or even believes that it would be a Good Thing for the country and its inhabitants, should read a prophetic novel written in 1935 by Sinclair Lewis titled "It Can't Happen Here.

The Kindle version is only £1.99 on Amazon. Paperback and audiobook versions are also available

No, we don't need Trump or a clone of him in the UK.

Kandinsky Fri 24-Jan-25 09:28:25

Well you have to ask yourself why millions of Americans have voted him in for a 2nd time if he’s so awful. He must be doing something right. Or the opposition is even worse?

And no, we’ll never have anyone like Trump as our PM ( unfortunately ) This country will continue as it is, slowly getting worse. nothing will change will the illegal immigrants because any plan to sort it out gets blocked.
So we’ll have the country we deserve.
I feel sorry for my grandchildren.

Casdon Fri 24-Jan-25 09:41:02

I feel sorry for your grandchildren too Kandinsky, and for mine, but because the short sighted Trump policies will further exacerbate global warming, increase extreme weather conditions and force more people into migration. Are you as short sighted as he is?

Elegran Fri 24-Jan-25 09:41:44

I remembered having recommended this novel in a previous thread. For once the search-box found the post. It was in an interesting thread started in September 2020 which is very relevant to this one. There are some perceptive posts in it – and the tone throughout is one of discussion, not confrontation. That is an illustration of the way confrontation has recently become the norm in discussions of serious subjects.

Just had a look at that old thread Elegran and it seems just as confrontational and bad tempered by some posters as any active threads now.

Granniesunite Fri 24-Jan-25 10:02:33

My grandchildren are very aware of the political climate today and trumps confrontational style turns them off completely.

They see dictatorship on the horizon for the people of America and that’s not what they want for their future security.

They love this small beautiful Island.

We are perfectly capable of thinking further than that and I question whether those who state very clearly they wish Trump was our PM have “thought further”. If you’re so sure that Trump is a good man and a great leader I suggest you consider living in the USA and see the realities of living under Trump.

Barleyfields Fri 24-Jan-25 10:13:36

Well said Cossy. Those who wish Trump were our PM seem to think only of his (inhumane) immigration policies.

This country isn’t awful due to migrants entering illegally, they play a tiny part of what happens in this country.

It’s so sad to see such blame laid at a few people’s door and also being able to debate civilly.

The majority of us want a stop to the people crossing the channel in a

I looked too.
I only commented once! 😂

Wyllow3 Fri 24-Jan-25 10:20:19

Yes cossy - until we've seen the realities the policies enacted of living under Trump, how can we possibly decide we wish we had our very own.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 24-Jan-25 10:23:42

Well, I noted the queue leaving ths USA back into Mexico. In just a few days Trump validates every aspect of the Tories' Rwanda scheme. Are you awake yet Starrmer?

mum2three Fri 24-Jan-25 10:26:01

The problems we are having in Britain are a symptom of the mis-management of successive governments. Our whole political system needs to be changed.
At the moment, we have a Prime Minister who dismisses anyone who doesn't share the same views as him. How can someone with that attitude be the right leader of anything, never mind a political party?
There is too much power in the hands of a small number of people who are just not up to the job.

Caleo Fri 24-Jan-25 10:42:59

Cult leaders such as Trump thrive upon political support from people who are panicking about foreigners in our midst.
It was ever so.

Once upopn a time people were panicked about Jews.

Once upon a time people were panicked about 'Gypsies'.

Once upon a time people panicked about witches '

Cult leaders like Trump need a black -listed group so they
can divide and rule.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 24-Jan-25 10:47:06

For cult leader - read populist. To divide and rule is their stock in trade.

Well Starmer and windmill milliband will drag this small island into such fuel poverty that no migrant, legal or illegall will want to come here.

I had to laugh. It there ever was an embodiment of "who dismisses anyone who doesn't share the same views as him"

- its Donald Trump. Who literally is dismissing thousands of people who "dont agree with him" in the civil service and associated services in Education,Health, and so on.

And he intends to obtain control over the judiciary, which thank goodness on the UK is independent of political control.

The country is getting worse, having so many immigrants is sucking us dry. I would not have children now. The ordinary young people cannot afford a house and cannot find a rental place, like gold, yet magically we can keep taking people in, find them a place to live, who do you think is paying for it. My adult g children can’t stand Trump because of his attitude to women etc but say immigrations has gone mad and how its not been dealt with. In my opinion this country is finished. My generation have had the best. I don't recognise it now. Its not racist, we have friends who have settled here from Pakistan and other countries and they say the same

There were only 63 responses on that post compared to 250+ on this one so really it didn't take off, whether that's a positive or not I've no idea. Also isn't it forbidden to bring other posts into an existing one (I'm not sure?)

Unlike some, Starmer and Milliband are not thoughtless, egotistical, bullying right wingers, so that is very unlikely.

Meanwhile as ICE has started to detain people legal passport holding Americans are being detained as well including an Army veteran that was interrogated and was doubted that he had served ! Shameful and reeks of fascism . Is this what Trump supporters want ? Trump will bring shame to the USA and history .

Update on the ICE immigration round ups in California. Yesterday a few migrants were detained. Today 75 per cent of the field workers failed to show. Result...the oranges are rotting under the strong sunshine, and fruit prices will now go up for ordinary Americans.
But hey, who needs immigrants?
