Shocking news this morning. On the tv and in the papers.

Apparently there are over one million migrants living here in the UK who have no right to be here.

600,000 of them are living in London. Just think about that huge number for a moment.

It equates to TEN football stadiums full to capacity in our capital city.

No wonder we’re broke. It’s dispiriting. Our borders are so leaky it’s not worth pretending any more that we have them.

What do you think about this newly released information?

Cossy Fri 24-Jan-25 12:35:59

We have 5 children, aged between 40 and 22, all work.

The oldest two “own” (mortgaged) their own very nice 4 bedroomed houses, the other three, in their twenties, all live at home still, but two of them have very healthy ISA’s which will form their house deposits when they are ready to move out.

It’s just our 22 year old, would be musician, son who sadly has no savings as yet.

How is having so many immigrants sucking us dry What does that even mean?

Well, I noted the queue leaving ths USA back into Mexico. In just a few days Trump validates every aspect of the Tories' Rwanda scheme. Are you awake yet Starrmer?

Where did you see this please FGT?

I remembered having recommended this novel in a previous thread. For once the search-box found the post. It was in an interesting thread started in September 2020 which is very relevant to this one. There are some perceptive posts in it – and the tone throughout is one of discussion, not confrontation. That is an illustration of the way confrontation has recently become the norm in discussions of serious subjects.

There were only 63 responses on that post compared to 250+ on this one so really it didn't take off, whether that's a positive or not I've no idea. Also isn't it forbidden to bring other posts into an existing one (I'm not sure?)

No, I don't think so if it's as a reference point.

A thread about a thread is against the rules, I think.

The country is getting worse, having so many immigrants is sucking us dry. I would not have children now. The ordinary young people cannot afford a house and cannot find a rental place, like gold, yet magically we can keep taking people in, find them a place to live, who do you think is paying for it. My adult g children can’t stand Trump because of his attitude to women etc but say immigrations has gone mad and how its not been dealt with. In my opinion this country is finished. My generation have had the best. I don't recognise it now. Its not racist, we have friends who have settled here from Pakistan and other countries and they say the same

FGT get her so called facts from dodgy news sources that she often “forgets” to mention.

You do know that Labour has returned in a few months more than the Tories did in 14 years of 'spaffing money up the wall' with the Rwanda scheme and spreading hatred.

The USA will indeed soon realise that there will be no-one to keep agriculture and industries working. It has happened before in towns where the ult-right obsessively got rid of migrant workers. Then realised they had no-one to do the necessary work to keep things working.

Update on the ICE immigration round ups in California. Yesterday a few migrants were detained. Today 75 per cent of the field workers failed to show. Result...the oranges are rotting under the strong sunshine, and fruit prices will now go up for ordinary Americans.
But hey, who needs immigrants?

Mmmmm sounds familiar?

It really is unbelievably short sighted..

Cossy Fri 24-Jan-25 12:51:29

At least read the facts before commenting.

Yes migrants can cause some issues.

Have they caused the countrywide issues we have in this country, absolutely not!

Some peoples utter obsession with migrants appears to blind them to many other things

Please take it from me, with 14 relatively recent jobcentre experience, there are far far more home grown Brits, who could work, claiming benefits, (I’m not including ANY disable or unwel claimants), than any non British born claimants.

Furthermore this govt has deported the most migrants since 2018.

Many news outlets have published this.
You can always check the facts for yourself of course.

I have not been able to find images or written reports of this "queue

What has been widely reported, is the confusion at the borders for imports/exports and normal travelling for lorries.

Watch A day without a Mexican on prime.
We watched it years ago.
It’s extremely funny but with a very serious message that has come to be.

I’ve read that, and it proves that the facts aren’t what FGT2 posted though Allira, and more moderate news sites are posting more accurate summaries of the suspected position, given the facts we do actually have. Yet more irresponsible, deliberately inflammatory posting by the Telegraph, which really has gone down the tubes now.

I did see it posted on a Conservative Party website, Casdon and then couldn't find it later so perhaps it was taken down.

Precisely Claremont.

Sadly that probably won’t matter to some because it’s fact as apposed to fake!

This isn’t surprising, there will be a lot of Mexicans working in the US on visitor visas, they do not want to be caught and permanently exclude, returning voluntarily is a better option, then they can apply for a legal work visa.

The US needs migrants - legal ones.

I am astonished by some of the posts written here. Such a lack of compassion and having contempt for these poor people fleeing their homes and countries because they cannot survive there be it for political reasons or changes in the environment. I bet they would be the first to leave here if they could not feed their families.

This country needs people who will fill the jobs that we cannot get people to do. The economy of the country requires a succession of workers and with our birth rate diminishing who is going to fill the gap? Those here illegally need to be fairly and quickly processed so they can work and pay taxes. In my experience most immigrants work hard and value education and improvement. That is what made America great Mr Trump!

quite right

The telegraphs headlines have become more and more “click-bait” and inflammatory.

I’m all for sharing and reporting FACTS, backed up by evidence if necessary or appropriate.

That’s my main issue with GB News, it’s fact based but also opinion based and quite right leaning, which is all fine so long as those watching it admit this.
