Trump and Vance attack womens health rights

Trump and Vance backed anti-abortion activists in March for Life speeches yesterday.
There was a rally yesterday in Washington, it was the annual March for Life rally and the first chance to see what intentions as regards womens health are now the election is over.

Two points of interest: Firstly, there has been a Federal Act in place, the federal Free Access to Clinic Entrances Act, which

penalizes people who threaten, obstruct or injure someone who is trying to access a reproductive health clinic – or who vandalize a clinic.

Trupp/Vance are pardoning all those convicted under the act,
Trump dramatically declaring they were realising the "persecuted".

Secondly concerns about access to abortions and related aspects of womens health, including criminalising abortion. We know already its only possible in certain states

But there are changes which are not so obvious Mike Johnson, (house speaker) "did win big cheers from the marchers, though, when he mentioned a recent executive order that declared that people are divided into male and female “at conception”.

That language evokes the doctrine of fetal personhood, which holds that embryos and fetuses should be granted full legal rights and protections – and which, if fully enacted, would totally outlaw abortion as well as potentially criminalize abortion patients

Most of the marchers feel there should be no exceptions - ie no abortions at all - except for ectopic pregnancy.

"Human life starts at conception,” said Henry Cooper, an 18-year-old march attender from California. “An abortion is never medically necessary. Ectopic pregnancy is something else. That’s not considered an abortion. There’s always something you can do.”

“Besides ectopic pregnancies, there are no cases where abortion improves the likelihood of the mother surviving other than a non-abortion way would,” agreed Luc Lessard, 18, of Colorado. “There’s no real cause for it.”This is just ignorance.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the pre-eminent membership organization for US ob-gyns, has repeatedly emphasized the medical need for abortion access. At least five women have reportedly died after abortion bans affected their medical care.

As of January 8, 2025, 12 states have banned abortion Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.

Here is a state by state summary of restrictions. You'll see it's very widespread, complex, and punitive.

The hatred of these people passing these new laws to women is beyond my understanding.

Was the doctor in Louisana or New York? (sent the tablets). How can he be prosecuted if he was in NY?

The doctor in New York, the patient in Louisiana.

This has never been tried before, so we have no idea how it is going to work.

Every life is a precious gift so I'm not pro - abortion unless it's for medical reasons -I used know an Italuan lady ,who had terminations as her kidney function was too weak to support a pregnancy .
It was distressing for her and her husband as they longed for a child .

My son got his long term girlfriend pregnant and I begged them not to have a termination .
At the time , I had enough free time to help with the baby .
That child would now be an adult .
But -
despite my views -I believe that it's a woman's individual right to choose for herself .
It's terrible to witness the effects of a back street abortion .
Every women needs the option of a safe termination .

Want to bump this thread to report thay a college system in New York has removed protections for pregnant women. I am not 100% on the why of it, something Trump did.

It reads as if the are making it harder to come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct in one part of the ruling.

In a separate part, lessens the rights students have for time out and facilities for pregnancy and women with young babies.

It points out this is ironical when they want to encourage women to have babies not abortions.

Not really - I think the move is to get women out of higher education, the boardroom and other areas of commerce and trade, and back in the home and kitchen.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed to the board of the University of West Florida a political scientist who argues that American colleges and universities undermine traditional families by encouraging women to pursue careers and put off childbirth.

Speaking at the National Conservatism Conference in 2021, Yenor detailed what he sees as the “evils” of feminism, labeled “independent women” as “medicated, meddlesome and quarrelsome” and decried colleges and universities as “the citadels of our gynecocracy” — a form of government run by women.

Every effort must be made not to recruit women into engineering, but rather to recruit and demand more of men who become engineers. Ditto for med school and the law and every trade,” Yenor said.

It's not exactly Gilead, but for any woman who doesn't want to sacrifice her whole life, give up her independence or dreams in order to be a mother - it's a pretty dystopian outlook.

... and now Trump is urging Americans to "bring God back into their lives" because he doesn't think you can be happy without religion.

God, guns and motherhood - that's how he's going to MAGA.

The Military is spending its sexual assault prevention training for an unspecified amount of time.

They consider this DEI

This is serious. Worse and worse. Nothing to do with the DEI initiative - its to do with protecting women and educating men. Really bad.

Wyllow3 Fri 07-Feb-25 19:00:51

Actually it ties up with the report on women at college as in what I quoted
"It reads as if the are making it harder to come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct in one part of the ruling."

imaround Fri 07-Feb-25 21:29:36

That is exactly what they are doing.

Florida stopped teaching consent to school children with the latest curriculum update.
