as he agrees to deliver a massive number of bombs for the IDF- so they can clear the country.

Are they planning the Ben Gurrion Canal yet- was it was this is all about, as some suspected a long time ago.

Call me cynical andpessimistic. Where on earth are they supposed to go?

He will never stop Fentanyl coming into the US.
Most of it is posted in.
It is a massive business in China despite the fact that it’s banned in China.
If you know how you can go online, speak to the dealer and arrange payment and delivery.

Nobody will ever stop any kind of drug use, that doesn’t mean that getting tougher at borders can’t be done.

You should read the Thread Title, and stick to the subject

Are we allowed to move the discussion on as this story progresses or do we have to just discuss that Guardian article which, incidentally, has been widely reported by many other media outlets?

So many things going on at this time, and with Trump. Much better to stick to one issue at the time- and that is the news that Trump and Netanyahu want Palestinians to leave Gaza (and possibly soon, the West Bank)- freely (and they won't) or by force, with nowhere to go and no right to return.

Surely that is complex enough and quite sufficient for ONE thread.

Anniebach Wed 05-Feb-25 22:01:16

Did Netanyahu speak at the press conference?

Yes, but what I meant is that the subject is fast-moving and is being reported by one outlet.

Well, if it's ok, just reported on BBC News, one middle-aged Palestinian woman said they will clear up the rubble then sit on it. 👏👏👏
Are they going to drag them away?

Babs03 Wed 05-Feb-25 22:13:26

Seems Whitehouse staff are scrambling to reframe what Trump said about the US owning the Gaza Strip.
Looks like a long night for those trying to spin this.

Babs03 Wed 05-Feb-25 22:15:47

In the mean time a fragile ceasefire is now under threat.

Yes.

comments on Trump and plans

"I believe, Mr. President, that your willingness to puncture conventional thinking, thinking that has failed time and time and time again,
your willingness to think outside the box with fresh ideas, will help us to achieve these goals. And I’ve seen you do this many times. You cut to the chase, see things others refuse to see, say things others refuse to say and after the jaws drop people scratch their heads and say, “You know, he’s right.”

Mr. President, ladies and gentlemen, Israel will end the war by winning the war. Israel’s victory will be America’s victory. We’ll not only win the war, working together, we’ll win the peace.

With your leadership and our partnership, I believe that we will forge a brilliant future for our region and bring our great alliance to even greater heights. Thank you

Just incredible. A 'polite speech'.

The report was propaganda nonsense, we have had migrants come to the UK in large numbers for many years more family members would join them if they could get visas.

How many do yearn for their homeland and actually return, VERY FEW because life here is so much better than the poverty they left behind.

Anniebach Thu 06-Feb-25 08:59:31

I can understand them not wanting to leave their country but
their children are starving !

Apparently Trump has said he will use force if necessary. What a dreadful prospect.

Allira Thu 06-Feb-25 10:10:40

Good heavens, some callous replies on here!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 06-Feb-25 10:33:17

The only people in the world who are supporting Trump is Israel, every other countries have entirely rejected his proposals.

He, however appears to have given carte Blanche to Israel to deal with the Palestinians as they see fit.

Barleyfields Thu 06-Feb-25 10:39:25

Yes, a fair summation Whitewavemark. He is behaving like a James Bond villain intent on taking over the world (or parts of it).

JenniferEccles Thu 06-Feb-25 10:42:25

The Palestinians have shown they can’t be trusted to leave Israel in peace so I can’t see how the two-state idea is going to work.
In addition both Egypt and Jordan have (understandably) refused to entertain the idea of taking in the Gaza residents, which would presumably include the Hamas terrorists.

Some other ideas have to be explored and that’s what Trump is doing.

Have there been any other suggestions from other nations?

That will not happen, because the optics would be utterly appalling.

USA troops forcing women and tiny children to move to somewhere they don’t want to go to.

Not going to happen is it?

It would truly be the second coming of Hitler!

Of course there are plenty of other suggestions, it is simply drowned out be Israel and USA .

The two state solution is recognised as the best long term plan, which must recognise Gaza as a sovereign state with an independent government. This would ensure funding for re-building and support from other Arab states, the UN and other states, which will never happen if the USA continue to accept Israel has the right to be an occupying force and the IDF are a permanent oppressive fixture in Gaza, ensuring continuous war.

Which countries would choose to fund a Hamas governed country ?

A disruptive question which will not be deemed worth a reply.

Babs03 Thu 06-Feb-25 11:04:21

I think it would help to consider that we are talking about ‘people’ here the same as you or me, who love their children just the same. Not a nuisance to be eliminated or bundled off to some other country.
I can’t help thinking that if these people were white Europeans being treated and spoken of like this there would be complete and utter outrage.
Let’s use a little compassion when discussing actual ‘people’ who presently have only rubble to call their own and are even being told they won’t have that much, because if they leave you can bet your bottom dollar they will have no right to return.

Ramblingrose22 Thu 06-Feb-25 11:05:04

I see today that Trump 's original proposal is being watered down by suggesting that the Palestinians move out "temporarily" while their land is cleared prior to reconstruction.

I think more and more that Trump just likes attention and to provoke people. I read that it is estimated that clearance and reconstruction could take up to 21 years, so quite long for "temporary", but long enough to have an impact on the countries he suggests should make room for the Palestinians.

Perhaps I missed it but has he even explained how the clearance/demolitions and reconstruction will be paid for?
