MaizieD I agree. Surely Russia has not been communist since the Berlin wall fell.
Thank God that someone else has noticed.
I was beginning to wonder if I were alone in a parallel universe 😱
President Trump appears to have TWO puppet masters - Elon Musk and Vladimir Putin.
I thought it was just Musk's money giving him traction in White House affairs on the premise of Making America Great Again........but, on the current showing, Trump seems to have been a Communist all along, a solid disciple of all things Putin, willing to be manipulated by the Kremlin.
This is a curious position for an American President, supposedly the Leader of The Free World to allow himself to be in.
My thought is: what's in it for Donald Trump and do all those who voted for him endorse his current support for Vladimir Putin and, it must follow, Communism?

According to a poll conducted by the DM ( I know, I know) the majority of Americans who took part think in simple terms Zelensky good, Putin bad. Trump may have misjudged this one.

MaizieD I know full well that Russia in no longer a Communist country.
I visited Moscow and Leningrad in 1979 and I visited Moscow and St Petersberg in 1993 so I am well aware of the fact.
Apologies. I wasn't really commenting on your post, it was just a hook on which to reiterate a point which some recent posters seem to be unaware of.
It's interesting that in 2019 the MSM and the BBC managed to persuade that Corbyn had Russian links and was therefore a communist despite the fact that London was awash with Russian Oligarchs who couldn't have made such obscene amounts of money in the USSR..
I derail, though...
If there is one word that looms largest in Trump's vocabulary it's 'DEAL'. Everything can be fixed with a 'deal'. Ukraine should have 'done a deal' with Putin. What he and his envoys are now working on is how a 'deal' can be arranged, never mind whether the people of Ukraine who are fighting for their nationhood, agree or not. The 'deal' will obviously be made between Trump and Putin

Trump a commie? I have heard it all now. Tell that to the marines.
Russia isn't communist, either.
Trump and Putin are two of a kind, but Putin has more brain...
The difference is that Trump just thinks he's clever
Putin knows he is.
I remember Glasnost and Perestroika in Russia and the fall Berlin Wall which lead to the reunification of Germany.
I know that since 2000, when Putin first came to power, they have not reverted to Communism but I gather that Glasnost is well and truly a thing of the past.
As I mentioned before, I visited Russia under Communist rule and later post Glasnost in the 1990s. I shall not be visiting again.
I won’t be visiting the USA
The deal whilst selling the Ukrainians down the river that Trump talks about is carving up Ukraine's mineral resources whilst selling the Ukrainians down the river! Trump is totally without morals.
Just remind me what GB has stolen… gold, salt and ivory and countless artefacts. Leading by example!
Direct question to you ronib. Do you think that because the UK has done terrible things to other countries previously, we should stand back and let Trump do exactly what he wants?

My thoughts exactly Foxie48 Trump is a disgrace, I expect many who voted for him are regretting their decision.
I wonder if his party will stay loyal to him or at some point will they decide enough is enough.
He's not a closet communist. He's just an unscrupulous man with an eye to the main chance. He will get into bed with anyone who he thinks might boost his ego and get him noticed.
Casdon how are we going to rein in Trump? Who are we to stop anyone? We no longer rule the world….
No one is suggesting we rule, or want to rule the world. Thst doesn’t mean we abdicate moral responsibility. Get the popcorn out and watch as the world loses its way under the influence of a crooked failed business man - and whoever is pulling his strings
By remembering that old cliche:- "For evil to triumph, it is necessary only that good people do nothing."
I have altered that slightly from "good men" to "good people", to include both halves of the population - 50% of whom would be permanently pregnant and tied to the kitchen sink under Trumpian ideology.
Who is 'we'- the British Empire which never really ruled the whole world?
I admire Starmer for his backing of Zelensky and this is the right thing to do.
Who are we to 'stop' anyone is a silly question.
The British Empire ended. So will Trumps and Putins.
458 million people were apparently ruled under the British Empire in 1922. Point of information.

Yes, and many of feel very ashamed of this country’s past, however that doesn’t in any way negate the actions of Trump, Musk & Putin.

That was over a hundred years ago. I believe perhaps naively that people learn lessons from history- at least the intelligent ones do. Stupid people just repeat the mistakes...

I agree.
It’s all about him as far as Trump is concerned.

The problem for the rest of the world is that he is useless at deals. Nothing he did during his first term, succeeded and it looks very much that the Ukraine deal is already looking totally unsuccessful as far as Ukraine snd Europe is concerned, and
very possibly the rest of the world because it will not succeed in bringing stability.
Putin isn’t a communist he is an autocrat, and Trump admires him because he is what Trump wants to be - an absolute ruler.
I don’t think Trump understands the first thing about different political ideologies, he only believes in one thing and that is Donald Trump.
madeleine45
If I believed in reincarnation, when you listen to Donald Trump, the name that springs to mind is Adolf Hitler. Trump seems to think that he only has to say something and that gives him the right to walk into someone elses country and take it over, overturn any laws that he doesnt like, behave in a way that with anyone else would have them certified and removed immediately to an asylum. The thought that anyone would have voted him in after seeing what he behaves like , just makes me wonder where their brains are - well if they have any!!
Just what I’ve been thinking.
Trump is in a hurry and has to win as he only has control for 2 years at best - before he may lose control of the house, Putin cannot lose face, no matter what - he has to win and be seen to win. Ukraine is a victim and has paid an horrendous price and will be required to give up more than just the tragic loss of lives. If these are not agreed, then this will go on forever. I am glad I am not having to negotiate this.. Awful awful situation.

You and I, and probably almost everyone on this social media site, the UK, the US and the world, were not even a twinkle in our fathers' eyes in 1922. That era has gone by, and in between a great deal has been learnt about massive empires, the difficulties of administering them, and how much inequality and resentment they engender. Trump, of course, knows no history, so is unaware of any of that. He knows only that he wants power over more countries than just the US, and that the way he has achieved power over people in the past is by grabbing them by their pussies (or by their short and curlies if they are not equipped with pussies.)
