Yes I agree Galaxy cultures do have an impact on behaviour. And in order to live better together it's important to understand those.
What I have problems with is blaming and generalising about one culture - attributing certain types of behaviour to them only - without looking at a our dominant culture that has also produced appalling practices.

But that’s distraction isn’t it, ooh look there’s a squirrel sort of thing.
Our culture doesn’t marry first cousins with all the heartache that can cause with babies and health, nor do we choose the husband for our daughters or pretend the daughter is having a holiday when in fact it’s to be married off, or indulge in so called honour killings.
Our European cultures may have faults but is a haven of liberalism compared to many others.

First cousins can actually legally marry in the UK Oreo. I suspect when they do, they don’t generally broadcast it though.

No, it isn't. Far from it. Tell that to the thousands of women and children who suffer and have suffered at the hands of men in long term "Brit" institutions and in our families".

Look at the whole picture.

What institutions now ? are you saying Christianity is still very much to the fore now ?

Our society has a Christian heritage with good bits and bad bits, good people and bad people, just as other religions/cultures do.

In 2010 a 3 year project was started in Birmingham.
This article ( dated 2021) reports that 1 in 5 babies die in Birmingham caused by consanguineous marriage.
I was educated in this disturbing subject in 1971.
Added to the above there are above average numbers of severely disabled children in care in Birmingham.
I don’t care what race or religion these parents are, children are suffering.

The health problems resulting from first cousin marriages was well known when I started in generic social work in 1980. Colleagues in health and our own teams supporting children and families with disabilities were trying hard to educate the risk. If only knowing the problem magically disappeared it

I posted on here some time ago about my friend who worked in a special school with severely handicapped kids in an inner city and the majority of kids were asian. I used to help out at Fetes and special events and was shocked at the severity of avoidable handicaps.

Apart from the suffering these poor kids go through there is the cost running into millions per child of their care for the rest of their lives.

Yes, there has been much change, numbers have dropped substantially.

We had a whole thread about it, didn't we? It was because there was disagreement about education versus an attempt legislate.

It’s good to see research and non judgmental support from agencies challenging tradition. The same approach is shown to be more effective with FGM for example.

We of course do judge for ghats why it is illegal and professionals have a duty to report. I think it is a good example of establishing a standard that we should all adhere to.

Yes Galaxy I’m aware FGM is illegal. My point is that whilst supporting the law, working in a supportive way to challenge communities within which it’s seen as essential is also necessary. But I suspect you knew what I was meaning
