Will Trump pull out of Ukraine?

Well, he’s threatened to, if agreements cant be reached. Whether that is a clear intention or a gambit remains to be seen.

It would presumably mean both ending military aid but also giving up all the tortuous negotiations and demands on mineral rights?

At he moment we have an “easter Truce” ending tonight, although Zelensky has said there have been breaches.

There are a lot of conversations including European leaders going on behind closed doors

From BBC timeline

“We're not privy to all the conversations taking place behind closed doors.

What we do know is that President Donald Trump was growing impatient at the lack of progress on a Ukraine peace deal. He’d been keen for some kind of truce to be announced.

Let's see what happens when Putin's "Easter truce" expires at midnight local time tonight.

Whether there will be continued efforts from all parties to continue the conversation and push towards a wider agreement.

The major sticking point remains: how and on what terms to end the war in Ukraine.

Up until now Vladimir Putin has shown little sign of being willing to compromise. His demands haven't changed - as far as we can tell - since his so-called peace proposal of June last year.

Under that, Russia would keep all the Ukrainian regions it has occupied, while territory still under Ukrainian control in those regions would be handed to Moscow

(Zelensky can never agree to that!)

“So, we need to wait, follow events to see whether this small step Putin has taken leads to anything more substantial.”

No specific news coming out of todays negotiations - except clearly lots of stuff going on under the surface - the US clearly doesn't want to let go of the rare minerals!

"As the meeting between Witkoff and Putin was taking place, Trump claimed talks were going in the right direction.

"They're meeting with Putin right now, as we speak, and we have a lot of things going on, and I think in the end we're going to end up with a lot of good deals, including tariff deals and trade deals," he told reporters in the US.

He said his aim was to bring about an end to fighting in Ukraine which was claiming the lives of 5,000 Ukrainian and Russians a week, adding he believed "we're pretty close" to a peace deal.

Writing on Truth Social later, Trump said Zelensky had not signed the "final papers on the very important Rare Earths Deal with the United States".
"It is at least three weeks late," he said, adding that he hoped it would be signed "immediately"."

(wise man, Zelensky, dont sign it as its your bargaining chip!)

Somehow I doubt they are close to anything.

He went on today about some peace in Africa he has achieved. I haven't looked yet, so I have no clue what he is talking about.

Just like his 200 "trade deals" boast, he is full of nothing but hot air. No proof of anything, they just take his word for it n

Trump after the meeting in the Vatican with Zelensky has got frustrated with the Russians

"Donald Trump has questioned Vladimir Putin's willingness to end the war in Ukraine following his meeting with the country's leader Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of Pope Francis's funeral.

Writing on his Truth Social account, Trump said the Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities "makes me think that maybe he doesn't want to stop the war, he's just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through 'Banking' or 'Secondary Sanctions ?

Earlier in the day Trump and Zelensky were seen in deep discussion in St Peter's Basilica shortly before the funeral began.

The White House described the 15-minute meeting with Zelensky as "very productive". The Ukrainian president said it had the "potential to become historic".

He's realising what Putin is really like?

If he really means what he says maybe the penny has dropped at last. Could he really have been the only one who didn't realise that Putin has just been tapping him along?

A CNN analysis was entitled

"Analysis: Putin has outmanoeuvred a host of US presidents. Trump is only the latest.

Includes:
“I would say the negotiations are going very well — from Putin’s point of view,” Angela Stent, a foreign policy expert and former national intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia at the National Intelligence Council, told CNN.

“He has no intention of stopping the war, but what he wants, and what he’s getting, is a restoration of US-Russian diplomatic relations.”

I think Trump really did think he was "different" and past events didn't count

He thinks he's "different" alright but not for the reasons many do grin.

makes me think that maybe he doesn't want to stop the war, he's just tapping me along
I laughed out loud when I read that Trump wrote this.
No Sh*t Sherlock.
