Canadian Elections

Mark Carney looks set to win the Canadian Election which means that a government with liberal values, governed by the rule of law will be a model and alternative to its neighbour.

Carney has already shown that he fully intends to stand strong against Trumps more mad economic and nationalistic ideas, and leaders like Putin and others know that Trump caves pretty quickly when up against strength.

“What kind of comment is that?

A woke parent produces a woke child ( whatever that is)

Unbelievable really.”

I think some people genuinely believe this. As if it’s genetic.

Carney was head of BoE during very difficult times, Brexit and then Covid which presented huge fiscal problems for every country. Why do you say Carney was "rubbish" FGT ? What would you have done differently? Clearly Canada thought he'd done a decent job or he wouldn't have done the same job there!

I thought he was quietly competent in some very difficult times. This isn't to say he got everything "right", no one does,
He is a marmite figure for many for speaking up on Brexit but was called
“the only adult in the room” at the time, he was the first to react when early economic indicators showed business confidence falling through the floor at the result. He also acted effectively on the corona virus financial emergency.

but he now faces what must be the biggest challenge of his life, the relationship with the USA and also building relationships with other trading parties.

Its harder to find domestic policy details, except a major pledge for home building and tax cuts for low ad middle income groups.

Wyllow3 I think most of what Carney said about Brexit was accurate. It's easy to say people are "rubbish* but I want to know what makes them rubbish, some examples would be helpful with suggestions that are not just "with hindsight".
