In the previous 2 most recent conflicts, Hamas' figures were revised upward by the official histories after the conflict ended, ie more had died than they reported.
Regardless, agree with Maybee & Smileless that Palestinians are being killed every day, mistrusting the exact figure is splitting hairs.

Israel to "conquer" Gaza
(1001 Posts)"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.
The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.
“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”
The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added
"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

Hamas releases the number of casualties, so the number is
accepted by many but not by all .
Do you think the numbers released are too low?
Hamas are now feeling the pressure and willing to “consider” releasing all hostages if that does happen maybe it’s a start for better things to come. If it does prove to be a false dawn even worse suffering for Gazans is to come.
The U.K., Canada and France have issued a joint statement to Israel, saying that Israel must cease it’s egregious and intolerable actions.
If Israel does not stop immediately, further concrete actions will be taken.
I would like to see sale of all arms stopped.
I'm glad to see action being taken against Israel. Defence is one thing but genocide cannot be tolerated.
As an aside. I note that the Coop has voted to boycott Israeli goods.
Support or sales

Support or sales
They’ve removed Israeli products from their shelves.
Yes, so I question support or sales

Yes, my fault - it was an aside, I should have known it would be picked up and run with. I’ll leave it now.
You post then criticise if it’s questioned ?
I'm so pleased the UK has come out with other countries to make a clear statement. The full statement condemns the actions of Hamas and demands the return of the hostages but it is very clearly highly critical of the latest actions of the Israeli government in Gaza. Not allowing baby milk in is appalling!
It's not before time that some countries are telling Israel their actions are intolerable. More need to condemn the starvation and constant attacks on Gazan people.
The attack on Israel on 7th October was intolerable too but Israel has gone way beyond defence now.
UK, France and Canada also said aid should be immediately restored.
Netanyahu has allowed in 5 trucks of aid from the UN yesterday - but has not yet reached people due to the airstrikes. 5 trucks barely scratch the surface.
The countries went further than condemning, as the statement says
""we will not stand by while the Netanyahu government pursues these egregious actions. If Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, we will take further concrete steps in response".
These could be sanctions.
Also "France has been considering joining the 148 other states that have done so at a conference it is co-chairing with Saudi Arabia in New York in early June. The UK has also talked about Palestinian recognition with the French."
But 'we' are standing by aren't we and have been doing so for months!!! I'm ashamed of our country.
"we will take further concrete steps in response" further!!! We've done nothing and continue to do nothing while the slaughter continues.
It's not just Israel with blood on its hands
.
The BBBC news feed. is monitoring whether the aid trucks and more are being allowed to get though as the day goes on. The UN's humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, says 14,000 babies could die in Gaza in the next 48 hours if more aid doesn't reach them
Ben Gvir the security minister for Israel didn't want even this small amount of aid getting through.
He has been convicted of incitement of racism and he is accused of supporting extreme groups.
Ben Gvir is unspeakable
I noticed the coverage of what Ben Gvir said as well and looked into it, very relevant given how much power he now has in the regime.
"Ben-Gvir is a settler in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, whose "political background lies in Kahanism - a violently racist movement that supports the expulsion of Palestinians from their lands".[6] He has a long history of anti-Arab activism leading to dozens of indictments
and at least eight convictions of crimes including incitement to racism and support for, as well as possession of propaganda of, a terrorist organization (the now illegal political party Kach)
As a lawyer, he is known for defending Jews accused of Jewish extremist terrorism on trial in Israel"
Part of a biography in wikipedia which gives a fuller picture

I imagine "Sanctions against" could include withdrawing any arms sales or support by the UK, but it's a drop in the ocean compared with the military support from the US.
I really don't know what else we in the UK could do? I wish there was?
Since Trump's trip to Saudi and other countries Trump has been making noises about the necessity for aid to reach people, but of course they want it to be their version of aid controlled by them through the organisation they have set up with private contractors, a limited number of facilities under construction but by -passing the UN, which is trying to deliver aid now.
The aid that Trump wants set up will obviously be for profit for him and his rich friends.
Trump could have done so much more for Gaza than just snubbing Netanyahu. He only does whatever is beneficial to him.
China is accusing Israel of war crimes and demands that they answer in the ICJ
I don't see how the US organisation can raise the money unless they persuade the UN to part with its aid money
But the UN is funded by many countries, not one to persuade, including ours that might not take too kindly to handing money over to very limited mercenary protected militarised centres. It has been operating on the basis of 400 centres and although this could be curtailed, down to 4/5?
Don't the Israeli leaders have to leave Israel (ie visits to another country) before they can be detained and put under judicial process for alleged warcrimes?
The ICJ can't just send people in to extract them to face justice.
& it's usually leaders (army & government) who are tried for warcrimes, not states.
States get a UN resolution but Israel just tunes those out.
